Official 390 E.C. Thread

but the anchor and bow rail are both still good.

That one's been on ebay for a while too. I can't imagine why it hasn't sold yet.

Not too hard to tell where the water came in. Mind you the deck is open on the stb side near the horns. Looks like somebody stripped her of the lines, fenders, life ring, etc. Headliner is a little cheezie in spots. A two bladed prop on a boat that size just won't cut it. I would'nt pay a nickle over $5 k. as I would have to ship it up here, pay some $$ at the border, etc, etc. Good project boat as long as the mains & genny are solid.

So I've been issued official orders from the Admiral that we will be getting a 390. I'm going to Norfolk on Saturday to check that one out. The broker had all the right answers to my questions, so here's hoping they were all honest answers.

the biggest problem is the water tank
they will all leak!!!!

the forward compatment remove the l brackets and see if any water seeps out from the floor

Looks well maintained cosmetically. From what I can see of the engine compartment - not so much. If the cockpit has been covered it's entire life that would be a good thing. Look for evidence of water under the fuel tanks. The original tanks were .090. Could be crevice corrosion usually under the aft end of the tanks. Go in and rub your fingers on the floor at the end of the tank. Smell gas? What is with the black gook near the shaft logs? Lots of rust on the floor near the genset. How come? As always -Get a pre purchase survey!

Thanks for all the input guys! Doc, you've got some high standards. Those are some of the cleanest engine room pics I've seen in ads. Not to say that they're great, but compared to some I've seen it looks pretty decent.

When it ain't clean you have to ask why? When you are 100 miles offshore and the boat don't run - or is taking on water - whose standards would you prefer? Been there - done that. Don't want to do it again.

I'm not dissing your level of expectations. I can see from the care and detail that went into your boat that you're not messing around, and I respect that. The boat I have now has been 2 years of nothing but asking why every time I work on something, and trying to find the time to do everything as right as I can despite the PO doing nothing right which makes every job take longer.

No offense taken! I am just advising you. I am painfully aware of all the pitfalls this boat can muster. Missing something major like leaking fuel tanks or rotten stringers can render the boat worthless or at the very least cost you serious money. Good luck - I hope the boat is in great condition. Keep us posted! Please!
