Official 370 Sundancer thread

Quick question for the fellow 370 owners, I am having the props scanned and checked, anyone know if they have deviated from the "stock" spec? For the 1995 it is a 18x21. My props were in pretty bad shape and the average was 20.8, and max rpm was about 4200, would you put it back to 21 or drop it down to 20 to try and gain the extra rpm? He said he was going to take a little cup out of them as well. Thanks for your thoughts!

Does anyone know how to remove these rails. As you can see they are stained from a leak.:smt100

I do, I just pulled mine a few weeks ago, recovered them and the put them back in. Look above the rails, there are screws going down thru the "shelf" into the rails. When you get towards the front of the bed the screws come up from underneath thru the rails and into the shelf........at least that is how it was on mine.

P.S. the faucet was on my porch today when I got home.

John,

I guess that means you are going to get the faucet installed before me. I don't think we will be going to the boat anytime soon. Old Man Winter is not going to let go. I hope the faucet works out for you.

Thanks for the folding legs, I can't wait to start putting everything on board. I will check out the rails. I know there are two or three screws on top. I didn't know if that is all I need to do. Ours look like there are four sections, is yours the same?

Scott, if you started out with beat up props I would probably go with the original spec since you don't have a good baseline to start with. I would also be interested to see if the engines can reach the recommended RPM with the recommended prop pitch because if they don't you may want to verify the health of the engines. Mark

Connie,

I've got 2 rails like the one in your picture. There is also a "band" that goes around the front part of the bed and 2 panels above the port holes. I will take some pictures this weekend.

Scott, I agree with Mark, start at the recommended specs. I recently purchased a set of brand new 4-blade Michigan DynaQuad props. I got them for a steal from a marine dealer who was dumping inventory. It's a little bit of a risk as they were 18x19P props. I will find out this spring if I stay between 4000-4400 rpm range as stated by Mercruiser. Good news is that the local prop shop told me they should be able to re-pitch and or cup them if they're off the rpm mark. Worth the risk as they cost me less than repairing my backup 3-bladers.

Andy, do you know what pitch and size 4 blade props are recommended for the 370?

Thanks for the input, I told them to put them back to the stock specs and will go from there and see how it performs. They have never been scanned before and am anxious to see how they turn out.

Scott, it's amazing the difference can be when you have the props done. I did mine last year and after seeing the difference it made I regret doing it sooner. The boat picked up easily a knot or two in speed and the best part was that some vibrations I had at cruising speed went away. I didn't even realize I had vibrations I just thought it was normal because I didn't know any different but the first time I pushed the throttles up....Wow! It felt and sounded like a different boat. Russ, I do not. I have sent messages to Sea Ray and they have not responded. I'm not sure they have a recommendation. The prop shop recommended that I stay at the same diameter and pitch down 1 or 2 inches. Adding a 4th blade reduces RPM 150-200. Each 1" of pitch reduction adds roughly 150 RPMs. So I am hoping that I will net about 150-200 more RPMs which should put me about 4400-4500 RPMs. If higher than I will have to add another inch of pitch to my props (or some cup). I researched this and the prop shop and I are in agreement on this starting point. I will keep you apprised as to my results (be patient it could be May).

Greetings all

Now that the weather has begun changing to the better here at the Jersey Shore - my efforts have turned toward my 370. Quick question - what size anchor rode do you have - since I have an older Good windlass which will not accept any chain - looking for diameter of anchor rode..

Thanks and have a great season!

Hey fellow 037 DAs.
Anyone having any experience with changing the standard 3 bladed props with 4 bladed? Mine 37 is a '99 with 7.4 MPI engines rated 310HP. When I bought it I replaced the damaged 3 bladed props w/ 4 blades 18 X 20 but was only getting 3700 RPM WOT. Prop shop (General Prop) in Bradenton, FL. advised taking 2 inches out the pitch to boost the RPM. Did so but still only was getting 3700 RPM but it also seems to have reduced boat response with the now 18 X 18 props. Thru misfortune I've replaced the engines with new long blocks, water damage due a bad header/riser job :-(. Now I seem to be getting 4400 RPM WOT but top speed is only 23 knts under good conditions, 1/2 fuel and water and clean bottom. The maneuverability & response still seems sluggish and slow, especially docking. I'm thinking of going back and putting 1 or 2 inches back in the pitch. Any comments and advice would be appreciated.......Phil

Andy,

What size props and pitch did you install? How's the performance?

Phil,

I installed 18x19 4-blade props. Although my boat has been splashed for nearly 3 weeks (due to spring flooding), everything remains winterized. I haven't even opened my seacocks yet. I hope to do so this weekend or next. That said, the flooding brings a very fast current and a lot of debris and snags on the Mississippi so I doubt I will leave the slip in April. I will let you know my RPM and performance once the river clears enough to go out and run her at WOT.

Phil,

Are you sure about the HP rating on your 1999? The MPI engines were rated at a higher RPM and HP than my carbureted engines. According to my manuals, my RPM should be between 4000-4400, 310 HP. I believe yours to be higher (4800 RPM, 380 HP)? I may be wrong here but thought I'd bring it up.

my winshield vent is leaking, does anyone know where to get the gasket material?
