Official 330 Sundancer Thread

Here's the little tube I was talking about and you can see the red fluid in there.

But upon closer inspection, the red fluid I saw in my bilge was probably transmission fluid because I saw a few drops of it under the forward half of the port side motor. When I looked it was probably because the transmission dipstick wasn't locked closed so some of the fluid may have leaked out the top. I checked the fluid level and it was fine so we'll see if the fluid comes back.

But that clear tube on that cylinder is still a mystery.

Finally got my new to me 1998 330 dancer in the water. I have a few questions for those with experience with this model.
1 is it normal for the steering rudder shaft packing to drip 10-15 drops per minute?
A guy on the dock said its normal for them to weep a little when first put back in the water.
I was on land for 10 months.

2 aside from the engine bilge and shower box are there any other bilge pumps?

3 does this model have a recall on the exhaust setup? I've heard that they do but Searay says they never heard of it. I ask because with 450 total hours the boat has ruined two sets of engines. I just installed the third set. Both previous failures were from water ingestion.

4 do the battery switches need to be turned off when leaving the boat unattended? I stay on a mooring so no shore power. It's no so cool to have to unsnap the seat cushion every time I have to access the switches.

1. I know I have one that drips occasionally, my mechanic said they don't need cooling like a shaft packing, and it can be tightened up to stop the drip. I just haven't contorted myself to get in there yet.
2. Main aft pump, emerg aft pump, fwd pump (shower) fwd emerg pump
3. Can't help you there
4. Mine stay on all summer.

I agree with everything Jim answered. As for the water injestion issue. I looked into this before I purchased my 1996 330 and what I fiound was that there seemed to be an issue with the exhaust risors not being high enough, BUT only on the MPI motors. I think there is an 3" piece that was put in to help. If anyone else knows something different, would love to hear it. I guess it couldn't hurt to put them in for a precaution. I have 700+ hrs and and still running strong. Good luck with your boat. I really love this model and its a good size for the great lakes.

Has anyone changed out the alcohol/electric cooktop with a smoothtop electric two burner?

I am looking for a port side bilge vent cover for my 99 330. Anyone know where I can find one?

The clear tube is used to bleed the system. When you bleed the hydraulic system it leaks hydraulic fluid from the valve. So you use the tube to drain it in to a cup instead of letting it drain in to your bilge. I must say though I haven't seen the clear tube connected on both ends. It's probably just a method of storage. When I bought my boat it was just hanging out of one side.

Advice needed! Updating alternators on 96 330 with 5.7l sterndrive - replacing the original alternators which are 65 amp and they currently output about 13.5 volt.. changing to agm batteries shortly and told they need at least 14.5 volts to top them up fully .. Looking at these units on ebay :

NEW ALTERNATOR FOR MERCRUISER MARINE 3.0L 3.0 3.6L 3.6 100 amp 12176-100
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291179277000?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

the seller says they will hit 14.5v and they should fit the existing bolt fixings...

Two questions - will upgrading from 65 amp to 100amp alternator create any issues for existing wiring?
and secondly will this alternator give the 14.5 v promised and will this be adequite charging for the agm batteries?

any and all help appreciated ...

I had my 330 with 7.4 MPI repose red two years ago. I bought it cheap and knew that I had to do that. It had ingested water in both engines because of the design flaw in the exhaust. I had my mechanic research it and found all the old tech manuals and recommended changes. He found all of the parts required and made the exhaust upgrade. It was a good idea because now I never have to worry about that. I had done at Zecco marine in ware ham Massachusetts. They probably still have all the documentation.

Re: Water fittings 95 330DA

Those look like compression fittings. I had to replace a few on mine. After searching marine and sea ray parts catalogs in vain, I went to a local Tractor Supply Store and found them. I believe they were called "sharkbite" and they fit my fresh water system perfectly with no leaks.

Has anyone had experience removing the step down swim platform on a 97 - 98 330 dancer? I believe it is an "add-on" and can be removed without changing the integrity of the boat.

Owners of 97-99 330 Dancers; Have any of you had to remove the swim platform? Can it be removed and has anyone removed it and not replaced it? (Only using the integrated platform.)

Never even considered removing the lower platform.

If I may ask, why do you want to remove the swim platform? Do you want to replace it with something wider?
