Official 330 Sundancer Thread

yeah I would agree that buying 2 rebuilt 454s would certainly be the most cost effective option. The 8.1s might be nice, get better gas mileage, a knot or 2 more on cruise... but it would cost you. Would have to get new props or at least adjust your current props, gears might have to be changed, shaft size???.

So in summary two new (rebuilt) 454s would be the cheapest and easiest option.

The one question I don't know the answer to is if you would have your existing 454s rebuilt or would you just buy new rebuilt ones and scrap your current blocks... not sure how that works.

Good luck!

97 330 Anchor size recommendation

Looking to replace my original equipment danforth for either a Bruce or Delta style (stainless for some bling). When I anchor overnight, its in sheltered bays on Georgian Bay with sand or mud bottoms with some weed sometimes. Never in open water. I find the Danforth does not set well unless the bottom is really clean. I run a mostly chain (100ft) rode with another 100ft of rope backing. The Danforth will stay on the boat as a backup.

Is a 22lb Bruce or Delta enough anchor for those conditions? Most of the boats in my marina that are in the 33 to 35ft range seem to use them about that size. The anchor charts I see show that size to be "OK" for that size boat, but I suspect the charts are factoring in open water anchoring.

I JUST purchased a 22 lb Delta for my 1994 33 to replace the stock danforth. I chose the delta over the Bruce do to the fact that it fits better in the pulpit with no modifications. That is the only reason; on my 250 I had a Bruce but that boat had a front bow roller. That anchor saved the boat once. With either make sure you get a swivel, the stock danforth on my boat did not come with one.

I went with the next size up from the 22 pounder Delta, 33 # I think. Wanted a little more piece of mind.. Fit just fine with the original roller, etc. I have a Lewmar Horizontal H1000 windlass, love it.

As for transducer choose a thru hull if you are adding a ff that has downscan or structure scan otherwise a shoot thru hull is fine

Thanks Larry. I am thinking of shoot-thru but not sure if the hull on my 1996 330 is solid or cored. I am thinking of mounting at the forward port side of the engine bay. Any ideas about the best locations to mount? Could others with s-t-h post where their transducers are please?

Cheers
Dave.

Don't mount it on the centre line of the keel. The glass is far too thick there. I mounted mine to the starboard of the starboard stringer. Its a Raymarine angled one. Seems to work OK there.

need some help forgot to pull the bulb for the light on the transom, right below the transom storage hatch. I thibk it is a festoon bulb but not sure the correct size, any one know the correct suze?

thanks

Just cured my two to four hundred RPM surge on the Stbd. eng. .. turned out to be what was a original ignition harness.. going to change the port ones also. used the Sierra brand harness, very good quality, reasonable price. West Marine actually less than NAPA dealer.. :)

Rated Capacity of Persons On Board.

Does anyone know Sea Ray's spec or the USCG recommendation (or other reliable source) for the maximum number of persons on board a 1996-2001 series 330 DA.

Thanks and regards
Dave.

I believe it is yacht certified meaning no specific limit except common sense and need for "personal space".

Thanks for the info.

question for all you 330 owners, I have a 95 330 with 454's. The engines are nearing the end and thinking of repowering. What do you think is the best repower for this boat. Keeping fuel, power and the fact that 454's aren't in production anymore in mind. Also I have V drives.

Thx

What do you consider "the end"? Having problems, blowing smoke, using oil? How many hours? Just for comparison...My old boat, a '87 Sunrunner 316 with 305's, had 1800 hrs on it, and ran flawlessly. The new owner is in our marina, and although he is a first time boat owner, and does none of his own maintainance, it still runs strong, and uses no oil. Just curious what nearing the end means to you.

thanks for the reply. My engines are at 870 hours. the stbd is running good the port on the other hand isn't. this engine has crack 2 heads in the last month, #3 head is on now and still trying to fix the problem. already replaced: risers, manifolds, thermostate (twice), heat exchanger, circulating pump, impeller and housing, 4" hoses off the risers, alt, distr. cap and wires, plugs...this big gas hog is still over heating. it only happens when you come off of plane. strainer is clean, good water coming out. it's an enigma.

have you looked at trans cooler/oil cooler they are next in line from strainer

back flushed the tranny cooler into a bucket looking for impeller pieces, totally clean. looked at the oil cooler also, fine. did find somthing very interesting though. the hose between the water pump and the heat exchanger is collapsing when at cruising rpms. this hose has a steel spring in it to prevent this. but my hose the spring doesn't go all the way through. and where the spring isn't it's collapsing.

Question - Mechanic says we are probably close to replacing manifolds and risers. His conern is because of the level of the exhaust tubes, he is thinking we should have 3' risers under the elbows. Do any of you with the 7.4 carb models (97 actually) have riser blocks under the elbow risers? Courious as to how to proceed.

I had mine done last season and I don't believe that he placed any blocks on the risers. I will check next time at the boat this week.
