Hello, I am considering buying an '04 320. The SmartCraft unit on the dash is getting & displaying data but will not scroll the various pages. Is it toast? Can it be replaced in kind? What are the upgrade options? From the Pacific Northwest. Thanks
Hey Gregor,
I bought the same exact boat and had the same exact problem. Mercury doesn't sell or make the SC5000 anymore, so you'll have to upgrade to their VesselView system if you want a new unit. You'll likely only need the display and an adaptor to connect the SC5000 to the VesselView. Depending on the model you go with and if you want to install it yourself, you're prob looking at 1-2k for brand new. I took my chances and scoured the internet for 6 months until I found a guy selling his old SC5000 for a couple hundred, which didn't have a scratch on it. The problem with not being able to navigate through the menu is the directional pad. To get my old unit to work for the 1st 6 months, I had to poke holes in each button and use a small screwdriver to navigate to the screen I wanted, then I didn't touch it. Not something I'd recommend doing, since there is power to the unit...but I needed the depth sounder screen in a bad way. Good luck in whichever direction you decide to go...
