Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Does anyone know how to remove the trim rings in the cabin on the trapezoid skylights? The windows are leaking and I need to re-bed them.

Hello there,

I just recently purchased a 1996 Sea Ray 290 and it still has the stock Clarion radio (definitely time for an upgrade). Anyone know how to remove? Does the whole panel have to come off to change it out?

I am looking at a 2006 Sea Ray 290. This boat has a single helm seat. Has anyone changed from single to double helm seat in their 2006 sea ray 290? Does it work and how much does it cost? Grateful for help in the matter.

/Peter

I have a 2007 290 Sundancer w/ the T-5.0L MPI Mercruiser w/ Bravo IIIs. According to Sea Ray, the orig prop for this boat is a 24"-cup, but w/ bottom paint it's a 22"-cup.

Not being all that happy w/ the mid-range cruise, I went to the Sea Ray "select a prop" guide and they suggest the 24" 4x3 prop, which kind of makes sense since it's smack dab in the middle of a 22"-cup and a 24"-cup (cupping adds ~1" of pitch). Has anyone else either switched our their prop or are also wishing for better efficiency with their OEM prop?

I too was wondering about changing the helm seat. I have a double on mine but would like for it to swivel around. Hope we hear what other 290 owners have done.

One of my skylights leaked, and simply took one out from the topside and recaulked. Stopped leaking.

Removed the whole glass from top cutting/removing the old caulk. Not sure its the right way, but the minor leak stopped.

I just changed mine on my 1995.
I took the 110 electrical panel screws out and laid panel to the side plenty of access. (make sure shoreline isn't plugged in)
The back of the radio is screwed to wood with a bracket. Then you just have to bend the tabs up that hold the insert in with a screwdriver and slide out,

Anybody have the rear bimini pole extension button freeze up? Any ideas to unseat it? Rarely remove all canvas and when I did the button was stuck solid. Appreciate ideas.

Funny....I have the single large helm seat...Let me know if you find what you want and would like to sell yours!
Thanks.

For us there was no questions the 290 - the layout for a family of 4 couldn't be beat. I wouldn't worry about replacement parts - they are all the same - not much different between the 280 and 380. It is all about the feel.

Hi! We're making a final decision on a boat this weekend and we're on the bubble between two 2007 280 and 290 Sundancers. I personally like the 290 more, but I think the 280 would be easier in replacement parts and upkeep over the years. The 280 has 4.3s and the 290 5.0s - both are equally as clean and well maintained.

Would appreciate any insight from the 290 owners on issues or challenges and of course the upsides as well. Thanks, look forward to getting back on the water after a two year furlough :)

Hello, getting close to purchasing a 2006 290 SD. Where would I find the light switch for the factory installed lights under the swim platform?
Thanks!
