Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Always great to see others post numbers on the performance of their boat!! As far as for loaded I agree. What props were you running? I am about to install a fuel sensor this weekend and will be able to post some numbers also but with a single. I am running 22p and at 32-3300 rpm am running at 28-30mph depending on conditions. Looking for a set of 20p to try those. Good post Matt.

Matt- thanks for posting those numbers. I have to admit I try not to keep track of the fuel burn numbers! But the remaining all seem consistent with mine. But with my usual load I am generally at 28mph.

Not sure what to do about that window. I think I may try some JB weld since if it doesn't work I can still have it re-tact welded. Hate make holes with rivet and have that fail.

AC pan is going to have to wait until I haul it out this year.

My helm seat is double wide too. Yeah, its not the best but not a deal breaker by any means. Would love to have tandem bucket's like on a 340DA.

I ran into an issue that I'm not sure how to fix. On my walk thru windshield section you will note there is a separate piece of stainless that is tack welded only to the windshield frame of that folding section. It serves to overlap the stationary section when closed by resting on it. The little securing knobs/latches are underneath it. Well that piece of stainless came off and I am not sure how best to re-fasten it. I don't have access to a welder. Rivets maybe? Or some other form of adhesive. This is the best pic I have access to showing it. Its the piece that overlaps.

Cincy-

I took a look at mine the other day. Should be able to remove the entire center panel and take it to a machine shop and get someone to tack it back on for you. Rivets may work though they may interfere with opening and closing the panel - depending on how much space you have in there. good luck.

I am new to forum and Sea Ray boats. I purchased a 2006 290 DA recently. I can't seem to find storage place for table in cabin. Is there a designated space for it to be stored? I have been putting it in the mid berth. Thanks in advance for your help!

If I'm not mistaken it's goes under the small couch in the cabin. But we never take ours down. I just know there is space under that cushion

That's where the storage location is on mine (under the couch cushion) - at least for the table top. There is sort of a cutout in there that the table top fits in (with the pole mount down). The pole is stored in the cabinet under the v-berth seat/bed. There are straps on the forward bulkhead in that cabinet that hold the pole in place.

John - First, I'm tentative on this site until I gain experience, but are you still selling the sunpad?
Marty in NJ

Yes I still have the rear sun pad insert and stand. I took some measurements a while back and I think it would fit in a 2' by 3' by 12" box and about 25 pounds for shipping. I can confirm those numbers. It's going cheap... it's just taking up space to me.

I'll tell ya'... I've looked at a ton of bigger boats to replace my 290 and still haven't bought anything. My price range dictates going a few years older but it's difficult to go from a 'modern' looking Sundancer to something else. To my eye, everything looks like poorly made junk with ugly lines after owning this boat.
The only good thing is that the prices appear to be trending down still...

Can anyone tell me the brand and model # from the Cockpit fridge? I see the Norcolds...which look like they might fit for 700 or so. Sea Ray wants 1400+. I don't have one and am looking to put one in.
Thanks.

I am relatively new to boating. I have sailed a bit and pulled a few water skiers in my life, but I'm now serious about taking the plunge and committing to a boat of my own. I have set my sights on a 2006/2007 290 and wanted to hear a little about other owners overall experience with the 290. I'm especially curious about how the twin mercs with bravo III drives have held up in salt water conditions with proper maintenance of course. The boat location would be Marina del ray, so I'm also curious to know if this boat is big enough to cruise to San Diego or Santa Barbara or should I be looking at something bigger? I have lot's of specific questions, but please feel free to chime in on anything, all input is greatly appreciated.

I love my 290....but wish I just bought a 320 or 340....just sayin...
That little bit more in width and a couple of feet of length makes a big difference.

Cant tell you firsthand about ocean use but the guy I bought my 290 from used to take it from Oxnard to the Channel Islands and he seemed to be quite comfortable with it on open water. As for the engines, they're going to require frequent inspection and maintenance if you keep the boat in salt water. I have the anodes on the lift rams changed every 3 months. The others last about 6 months. I would also recommend hauling the boat once a year and thoroughly inspect the outdrives for corrosion. I have seen guys come in with huge holes in their stern drives bc they neglected their anodes. I do take the boat up the Delta and Sacramento once a year in shallow waters and it's nice to be able to beach the boat and pop up the drives. That said, my next boat will likely have v-drives - lot less gear hanging in the water. If you're taking it out on the ocean you also want to think about your range. The 125 gallon tank wont last too long especially if you like to open her up. Other than that, it's a fantastic boat. Good luck

I didn't install it yet. I was able to find the Norcold model on EBAY new for 599.00 free shipping though. I just took the boat out of the water Wednesday to storage and I'm having someone install it soon. I see there is an access plate at the rear of the cabinet. I'm hoping they find wiring there. Turns out this is a 12V model...not dual..which is fine with me.
I'll let you know soon I hope. Thanks for asking.

good mornig !!!! im looking at a 2006 290 DA new body, the question i have is ?
does the cabin port settee convert to a sleeping area and is there a sun pad area on the deck
i dont see this ,maybe in missing some thing thing

If your 2006 is the same as my 2008, I can tell you this. The port lounge/settee does not convert to a sleeping area. You can still sleep there - if you're short. But nothing pulls out or is added in to make it any bigger. Also, there is no pad on the bow (from the factory). A few people have had them made custom, but the only way to keep them on the deck, would be to install snaps to keep it down. (There are no rails like the bigger boats to attach a pad to.)

I have the cockpit fridge...but am having a tough time getting the trim or trim kit. SR no help and dealer clueless...Does anyone have a picture of theirs installed?? Just a pic of how it looks would be a start.
Thanks.

Hi there'
I'm new to the club, just wondering if you still have the sunpad?
