Official 280 Sundancer Thread

I have the same setup and both motors run right around 165 all day long.

My starboard engine cut out at 170 degrees, weird how it was air in the fuel line, bled the fuel line and I'm good to go! My engines run at 152 to 154 all day...

Hey Jason,

My out drives were pretty much rebuilt 2 years ago, m

My mechanic found air in the fuel line, starboard engine. He said that's not related to over heating, I took it out and she's running great! Both engines run a temp of 152 to 154, all day long... I'm a HAPPY CAMPER! : )

Hey Jason, my mechanic ruled out the raw water impellers. So far, just air in the fuel line. Temps didn't go over 170 but the starboard engine just cut out on me, after it was real hard to start. All is good today. Tomorrow is another day! Thanks!

Ordered a USCG Number plate yesterday from Boat Outfitters. It took several months for me to get the info from the USCG. Looking for suggestions or examples of where to mount it. Does anyone have photos of their location they have put the number?

I'm considering switching to AGM batteries on my 04 280da with twin 6 alphas and Koehler generator. Everything is stock and I'm wondering if my charger would support the needs of agm 31s? I have not been great about maintenance on my existing wet cells, so thinking it might be wise to go to AGMs. Thoughts on my stock charger being sufficient?

AGM batteries have a similiar charging profile to Lead Acid. The GEL batteries are the ones you have to worry about charger compatibility. Many people, including myself have switched to AGM batteries with no problem. Might be an issue with a really old charger but you should be fine. If you want to double check contact the charger manufacturer and check. Changing to 31M AGM batteries has been one of the best upgrades I ever did.

The number has t be permanently attached to the main structure of the boat. That means attaching it to the engine compartment hatch, or one of the interior panels would not qualify. It does not have to be out in the open. The intent is that if the boat suffers a mishap and sinks the identity can be found. I installed ours by epoxying it to the hull in the starboard vee berth compartment. We've gone through two USCG safety inspections and each time this was found to be acceptable.

I epoxied mine to the floor of the anchor locker on the stern. I was never sure if this qualified as a main structure but I put it there for ease of inspection....all I had to do was open the locker and there it was and easy to see and read. I was never told it didn't qualify so I went under the assumption that it was an ok place to secure it.

I went from 4 group 27 wet cell batteries to 4 group 31 agms. I upgraded my charger from 30 amp to 40 amp on the recommendation of the techs at pro mariner. Not required, but upgrading gave AGM charging profiles, and the bump up in charging amps gets the batteries boosted faster. That's a nice bonus when charging from your generator on the hook (faster charge = less time on the generator). I have been very happy with my Promariner Pronautic 1240P charger. I have a posting on the upgrade here somewhere.

Welp, I got my first picture of our new to us 280DA. Orientation tomorrow afternoon. Very excited about bringing it to our home port.

Ok, I get it. No pictures, it didn't happen. Trying to add it to my signature.

Twin 4.3l motors with the BIII setup. You don't see that often. Wonder if they started doing that in 2006?

Went out for the first time Friday & Saturday and had a blast. I noticed that over the blower vent is a cap or something that is loose. It seems to be something you attach with an adhesive? What do you do to "glue" it back on? It's on the port side at the stern of the boat.

Yes, its held on only with adhesive. Use 5200 to resecure it. Don't wait on this as that piece is no longer stocked by Sea Ray. It will cost s small fortune to have one custom made if yours falls off while underway.

Excellent! Thanks!

I wouldn't use 5200. If you ever have to get that off again you will rip off the gel coat before the 5200's bond gives way. I took mine off and removed all the old sealant/adhesive. Used Boatlife "Life Seal" in the yellow tube that you get at west marine. It's been great and holding strong for 4 season since.

Definitely secure it before you lose it. As was pointed out you will spend a small fortune getting one if you can find it or otherwise having one fabricated.

Glad to hear you had a good first run. The weather heading from south river to Annapolis and the Severn was overcast and a little bumpy Saturday around lunch. Great heading home today.

Hey Jim, it was. I started heading out that way from the Magothy and turned around and stayed in the river. Didn't feel like dealing with it. Unfortunately had to travel today for work so didn't enjoy today which I heard was nice.

Need some hasty help. Heard a little rattle when compressor for air conditioning came on. Lifted seat and it didn't seem to be anything but I turned the air off. Now, when I hit "cool", nothing happens. The "cool" light doesn't illuminate. The "heat" will light when touched. The fan works. What is going on?
