OFFICIAL 250 DANCER THREAD

Just picked up a 97 250DA - 5.7EFI/BIII - We love the boat. Trim tabs seem a little finiky compared to my last boat but I will get used to it.

Just thought I would try & get a jumpstart on this thread, Not much action here lately.

Anyone have any plans for the winter as far as mods go?

I am going to put a pedestal mount for my magma
on the starboard side of my original swim platform, LED tails on the trailer, Some sort of flooring in the cockpit....

Hey there LK - So far I've added the Bennett Automatic Trim Control, upgraded the trim tabs to 24x9 and re-bedded the bow rail stanchions. I've buffed and waxed from the rub rail down and have the rest of the hull to go. I'm ahead of schedule this year.

Have you used the auto tabs yet? I know my boat is finiky with the stock tabs. Was it a plug & play?

Yep, the ATC is plug and play. On the 250 Sea Ray used their own wiring harness so you need to cut the connector off of the harness and crimp the wires if you don't swap out the whole tab system like I did. Not a big deal really. I had a problem with one of the cables that Bennett had to replace so I only have one quick run with the ATC but I think that it is going to make a big difference.

The biggest issue that I ran into on the 250 was finding a flat surface to mount the sensor to. I ended up making a small shelf out of Starboard that I epoxied to wall behind the instruments.

Last night was the first substantial rain since I re-bedded all of the stanchions with butyl tape. I went down to the boat today and the area under the stairs is bone dry. The job wasn't difficult but it isn't possible to do with one person as one person is in the cabin and one person is outside. The tape makes a great bedding material that is easy to use.

Now that I have a new engine <sigh>, on to slightly less expensive projects. Got some new gaskets/screens for the portlights. I'm also going to tackle a slight leak in the head - does anyone know what model of (manual) marine toilet a '95 250DA has? I need to purchase a maintenance kit. Also, our boarding ladder is starting to molt (plastic covering coming off). The ladder is around 12" wide. Is there a stainless steel replacement I could buy? Seems to me that it would last longer.

hey there jclack

The replacement ladder is from ggschmitt Part#: L07C3200 LADDER TOPMNT 3-STP 14 WH Cost: $245.25 + Shipping. You might email them and ask if there is a stainless version.

When I bought my boat the head was so disgusting that I removed it and left in in the marina dumpster. I bought the replacement from BOE for around $140. Dometic - SeaLand 975MSD Portable Toilet 5.0 Gallon - Tan w/ Brackets

Thanks for your quick reply!! Will call and ask about a stainless version.

Mine's not a porta. I think it's oem - Jabsco 29090 or related. Thinking of going to an electric. Would that be a big deal?

Got you, I misinterpreted "manual". If an electric has the same plumbing I wouldn't think that it would be a big deal. There is 12v nearby. You would need to pull the stairs and disconnect the shower sump to work underneath the shower. Maybe someone else that has done this will chime in.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. What I'm not sure about is how the water inlet is tied into, say, a Jabsco electric since its about 10 inches away from the toilet outlet.

What does everyone do w/ the "drink holder" on the port side of the cockpit under the windshield? The holes in it are too big for drinks, even w/ coozies. Has anyone modified it to be more functional?

TIA,
Jim

I agree with you, the original drink holder is worthless. I originally raised it with nylon spacers and longer screws from the hardware store but that only helped a bit. I ended up removing the plastic holder and replacing is with and Edson 878ST-3 drink holder which eliminated the issue.

Do you have a picture installed? I assume there were extra holes to fill?
