Official 240 Sundancer Thread

There may be a vent hose on your fill. Find where that vent goes and have some one watch it when you fill. My guess is when you overfill the vent line is then getting water in it and draining to your bilge and then creeping forward to beneath your step area.
I think that it is definitely related to a vent or a small/slow leak where the fill pipe meets the tank or right at the fill hole. In other words the fill pipe should be left empty and some head room left in the tank. I think the leak is forward and the water slowly moves aft to the step. The visible portion of the bilge is bone dry and has been bone dry all season. Can't say enough about hoe much I love the boat and the overall quality of Sea Ray!

Well, I've just recently "retired" from sailing, having sold my Catalina 34 last week. I have a contract on a '97 240 Sundancer and will sea trial and survey this coming Weds. Wish me luck! She's in pretty nice shape, with a 5.7L Mercruiser.

Best of luck to you. My wife and I are enjoying our first season of boating and have really been impressed with the quality of this manufacturer.

Thanks Dave, tomorrow is the big day. Sea Trial and engine assessment, and then haul and survey Thursday morning. Not good timing, on the 8th, I go to Hawaii for work, back home late the 13thm off to Napa for work early the 15th, back home the 17th, and off to London on Vacation the 18th. Hope to use the boat before Oct! But, it will be in the water year round, so I've got time this fall and winter to learn the ropes.

I'm worn out thinking about travel-looking forward to the boat.

I'll post some pics from my computer, but I don't readily see a way to upload. I spend a lot of time on car forums, where that usually is an option. Maybe I don't have enough posts yet, but I'll poke around the site.

Ive finally read through this whole thread. Two things-

1. Cant wait to trim the drive up a bit at about 3k coming out of the hole. I've read the pros and cons on handling. Most of our running will be on SD Bay, 75% of the time, just my wife and I.

2. I promise not to post about water on the low step!

Figured out I had to go to "advanced", I guess all forum software is a bit different. Some pics.....the inside was clean, but cluttered. I actually wrote as a contingency on my offer, that all his crap has to be off for survey.

Well, we ran around the bay for sea trial this evening. Mostly flat with some wind chop, as we had a nice 15kt breeze, and a few big yachts coming in, and some tour boats. So we had some nice wakes to transition and wind to deal with. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at the ride. There were only three of us, but after reading this thread, I expected to have a demon to tame. We did the trim tabs retracted, throttle up, trim drive up at about 3K, and a couple of clicks more than that, then trim tabs to finetune. This is seemingly the perfect boat for what I need-size, amenities and price. Survey in the morning!:smt038

Hi Todd, a couple years ago you helped me with some towing questions. This year the prowl pin on the trailer winch broke, which made for fun MacGyvering on the boat landing in Northern Mn. (I bent a hitch pin and jammed it in the gears.) Have you ever fixed or replaced a trailer winch? Any idea on how I would identify the type of winch to get parts? It's painted blue like the rest of the trailer, Dutton-Lainson looks like a match to the pin, and the kit is only 9.99 but not sure how to identify the actual winch model or part numbers. It's on a Trailer by Dorsey trailer and not sure this company is in business. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Regards,

Joel C.

Looking for replacement guides.

Loaded up my boat today in the wind. Old black trailer guides took a pretty good hit, leaving a heavy black mark along the side of the boat. Anyone have a good suggestion on how to get them out and where to buy new guides? Trailer manufacture is Hull.

Igloo Yukon Cooler

Well I picked up a cooler for our boat. I went with the Igloo Yukon 50. It's a really very nice cooler. It ended up being a bit bigger than I had planned though. I was hoping to move it between the back of the driver's seat and in front of the rear access door but it's about an inch too long to fit in front of the rear access door. So it pretty much needs to stay behind the driver's seat. We'll see if I want to stick with it or not. I'll try to attach a picture as a size reference for you.IglooYukon50.jpg

Re: Igloo Yukon Cooler

Why not consider turning it an angle behind the drivers seat so it clears the floor hatch? You could even get a cushion top, and it could double as a rear facing seat! Looks like a nice cooler!

I tried it on an angle but the molded-in handle sticks into the center of the boat more than I liked. The problem is the fire extinguisher is in the way for it to sit nicely behind the seat. I may relocate that so I can move the cooler forward then it might work out pretty nicely. The cooler has nice rubber feet on the bottom and it's fairly heavy so it does not slide AT ALL which will keep it in place while underway. As far as the cushion goes ....... I originally bought the cooler to become another seat (with a cushion on it). The fact that it is also a cooler was more of a bonus :smt001. I am looking for a cushion top that will work.

Re: Igloo Yukon Cooler

Hey there,

Does anyone changed the bow navigation light bulb for a led version?

The orginal light is the 10 watt bayonet style bulb??? Is that a bayonet with the single connector or the double version? (the BA15S or the BA15D version)

Wouldn't be a bad idea.

We're considering purchasing a 2000 240DA but I've never had experience with or seen this "EFI" fuel system before. I've had many carbed boats and one with MPI but this boat seems to be a crossover, more like just an electronic carb. Any input is appreciated. Should we run from this type of system or embrace it with open arms?

I have a 5.7 EFI and love it - Instant starts and decent economy. Basically it's a GM throttle body like the 88-98 GM trucks - Works great. Yes I would love MPI but my generation of boat was not available with it or it is extremely rare.

I just purchased a 2007 240 Sundancer with 5.0 MPI/Bravo 3. It has 100 hours. It was at a dry storage marina all it's life. Everything was fine until a few days ago. It started overheating. I have replaced the entire sea water pump even though it did not look bad when removed. I had heard the brass pumps were bad about scoring on the bottom and lid from impeller/sand wear.I also replaced the thermostat. The temp is fine, 160 degrees or so while idling in the slip. However, as soon as we run in gear with a load, it begins to overheat. The overheating can be reduced by revving the engine in neutral, as if there is an issue with getting enough water flowing thru the engine. I have heard about a possible problem with obstruction in the bravo 3 transom assembly, but have not been able to confirm this. When I removed the water pump while the boat was in the water, there appeared to be a good flow of water into the boat from the hose that connects from the drive. Any ideas?
