Official 240 Sundancer Thread

HI All,

Looking at getting a 2006 240 Sundancer. Already put a deposit down. Are there things I should be looking for that that particular year had issues with. It has the base 5.0 Merc engine with 140 hours on it. Comes with Trailer. Does not have AC/heat. Has everything else. Working on financing right now and should have a surveyor looking at it End of next week. But thought I ask this knowledgable crowd if there is anything in particular I should be looking at.

Thanks.
I purchased a 240 Sundancer in January, and have had it out a couple of times now. I love the boat, and am glad I purchased it. My boat had 101 hours on it and was a freshe water boat from Northern Maine. I also do not have AC/Heat, but have vacu flush head, Spotlight, full camper canvass and a few other options. I do not think you will be sorry with the boat, unless you are looking for a fast high powered boat. I find it cruises at about 25-27 mph at 34-3500rpm. Nice easy cruising, but have reache 39-40 mph at WOT...... watch the gas gauge move then......Overall I am happy with my purchase....

Thanks Ysidive. Looks like this forum is alittle light with traffic at least with the 240DA. Well I officially signed the paperwork today to trade in my 2010 Bayliner 185BR and I am buying a 2006 Searay 240 Sundancer. I loved my 185BR, but was getting alittle beat up in the bay with it. Also, wife and kids wanted a bathroom and the ability to stay overnight at a transient slip. I will be dropping off my boat this weekend and the Searay will be delivered to me next week. So I hopefully will have it in for father's day. What a nice present. :)
Here are some pics of the new boat.

Lot's of luck. I just bought a 2010 at the end of last season (new) and got in into the water in April -- but I have the Bravo 1 drive. We absolutely love it!

Some suggestions: (1) Consider adding some pop-up cleats to the corners of your swim platform. I am glad I did since the placement of the ones on the stern are not so good. Cost me $300 plus tax. (2) Consider having the dealer contact swimplatforms.com for an extended swim platform - there is no stock one available . I am trying to convince my wife to let me add one to ours but cost in NY will likely hover around $3K when all is said and done.

Storage space is limited so I mounted a second cooler down in the engine compartment and keep some spare lines and electrical connections in it. Much better than mounting crates and watertight. Heat is not an issue at all.

We also mounted the GPS and VHF in the dash and they look perfect as well.

Again, lots of Luck with the new boat.

Nice looking boat! You will be very happy with it. I have an 07 240 with everything mentioned including a generator and AC. My wife and I love overnighting on it and the kids love fishing and island hoping as well. This starts our 3rd season with the SeaDawg and we are pleased. I am however starting to wish she was a little longer for extended stays as well as more room for guests. But I do love the fuel economy of a single 5.0L motor!

Chris,

Thanks for the compliments! We are really happy so far, but I have to convince the wife to let me add the extended swim platform -- with the wife, 2 daughters and 2 chocolate labs all on board, I think the extra space would be nice when anchored or rafted up.

Did you add the genset or was it an option at the time? When I asked about it for the 2010, the dealer said it was not an option.....

I believe it was an add on option when purchased new, since it was covered in the initial Passport Premiere extended marine warrenty. I did buy this as a resale. As you know everything is smaller in this boat, so they did have to take out the pump out/ holding tank on the boat. I just upgraded the head and it seems to work fine.

yeah why is this forum so dead, you get on a car forum and its post and post :smt024

I am in the process of installing a VHT4500 Vacuflush system to replace my pump out 2 1/2 gal porta potty in my 240DA. I have the VHT4500 tank and a Ecovac toilet. I am wondering about electrical and control panel. The unit came with a 3/4 and full status panel but I would like to have a switch in the head also. What I need is some documentation, owners manual etc....

If anyone has this system installed in their 240 please let me know. I would love to see some pictures of the installed unit and get a copy of the owners manual.

If you go to the searay site and go to the customer support tab there is a manual's section and you can select on the year of your boat and pickup the manual from there. Hope that helps.

I have a 2010 240 DA. In the 2010 model a generator was not an option. This is what my dealer told me. There is no space in the engine compartment for it, hence Sea Ray decided not to offer it. I concur. With the hot water header, AC strainer, batteries and holding tank all of the space on either side of the engine is full.

Hi all!

I am a complete noob regarding boats in general, but when my wife wanted a boat as her 40th birthday gift I could not turn her down.

I now have a new project to spend money on.

I want to replace the steering wheel on a 240 Sundancer from 2004.

Can I just take any wheel or are there some things i need to think of.

One of my first project was to make a better holder for the GPS.

Very nice. UrbanSK.

I hope to Finally have my boat in the water in 2 wks. 6wks after the boat was delivered. Ugg. Searay is working some issues and I hope once is all completed I can send out a complete report.

Installed some LED's in the cockpit thought I would share, 2008 240DA removed the standard bulbs and replaced with super white on the cockpit light switch then added Blue LEDs into factory housings and put them on ACCY switchsml.jpg.sml2.jpg

Looks great! Am I missing something though? Are you able to turn on white or blue via separate switches? Where are the white versus blue bulbs? I'd like to add the blue to my cockpit.

I think he put the white on the normal light switch. Then he wired the blue into the accy switch but used the same light housing.

Bryan, I like that what bulbs did you use exactly want to purchase them and do it. Assuming this was plug and play.

Bryan looks nice.
