Official 240 Sundancer Thread

How do you like the performance of your 240 with the 5.0MPI?

Unless you load it up to capacity, the 5.0 MPI works really well. Super efficient and enough power to get it up to 40mph in the right conditions with some engine to spare. When you have it loaded to capacity, fuel, water, and gear, it'll struggle getting up on plane and staying there unless you are above 3000 rpm. For my family and i, which is the way the boat is run most of the time, it works just perfectly. More power wouldnt hurt though ;)

jg300da, My 5.0 is the 260 hp model,I haven't had alot of time to run this boat I just bought it in Nov. 06. I have run it in the lake with full fuel, half water, some gear, it seems to do just fine. I think the "B" drive helps alot. I've run it in the ocean also and I feel it will do fine there also. I've had my concerns but I got a great deal on this "left over" 06 so I'm working with it. I believe you can pull a skier or pull a tube easily. That said the larger engine would be a better option. At full throttle I can reach 42 mph, and cruise at 3000 rpm@26 mph, about. I do worry about having enough power to run in the ocean with a heavy sea(3-4 ft). I'll see this summer.

Installed a/c with out gen. well there is not really any room for the gen. so it's a/c at the dock with shore power. I certainly don't want to start a portable gen. debate. :smt014

Thanks for the info. I got a great deal too with sales being so slow. I was practically able to write my own number on an ordered boat equipped the way we wanted it.

Man that's great, I think you'll like the boat. You'll appreciate the increase in power the 350 mag will bring. I think it's a good size for trailering here and there and still have some creature comforts.

Thanks,
We got the white hull, I wasn't sure about the upkeep of the colored hulls. Ordered it with black canvas, snap in carpets, cabin carpet runners, Ac/heat, vaccuflush head, cockpit table, nickle gel coated dash, 350Mag, fire suppression system, and cockpit cover. The dealer thru in bottom paint, CG package, name on transom, and full tank of fuel. All for just under 55k

hello fellas,i too have a 240 sundancer.2006 b3 350 mag horizon and she runs great.oil changes are a snap!as to the bow roller, you can order one from marinemax for $260,part #1792418.
the a/c works great and so does the heat on those chilly nites at the dock.i had a leak on the port side trim tab actuator and my dealer fixed it in one week.it was pretty easy as the boat was out of the water getting winterized.i wouldn't have noticed it if i wasn't giving the boat a good waxing before she went to sleep for the winter.
2 months to go before she gets wet again.i hope it stays mild!

Ifalla,

Here is an installation overview.
It is a complex, and involved project. Hopefully this will give you and idea of whats involved.
Also, the second link is a must read regardless of what brand of A/C unit you buy. We purchased a Flagship Marine unit but the Installation outline by Mermaid is the best that I have seen. 90% of what is presented in the Mermaid instructions is applicable to any brand of marine A/C unit.

Cheers,

Jim

Jg, I to went with the white hull color because of the upkeep and washing will be big for the dark color. It looks great but...specially if used in the salt water. I went with the blue canvas, vacuflush head, fm/sat. stereo, electronics, a/c, etc, etc. I also opted for a trailer (Road King). I like to trailer boat. I didn't get near the price you paid wow, I paid 68k for the set up. I'm happy though, just if I can find a anchor windless and roller! Eddie I looked at the mm web site and didn't find the roller you did.

The windlass is going to be a problem because the anchor locker is centered on the bow, not offset like the larger Dancers that have a windlass option. I have seen it done on earlier 240's. The locker is screwed shut and a piece of starboard is secured to beef the deck up. The windlass is fastened down to the starboard, and a small 6" deck plate is cut into the remaining section of the original locker in case the anchor rode has to be accessed. The result is something that looks just ok but not factory.

Glad to see this thread as we have just ordered a 2007 240DA, scheduled for a March delivery. We recently sold our 2002 300DA, after we were notified that our slip for next season would be approx 6k. We belong to private club now and the slip fee is less than $200, but is limited to 25' max. I know it's a big step down but we don't want to give up the cruising and overnighting. Anyway, would be happy to exchange specs and experiences with other 240 owners.

Joe
Congratulations on your new boat Joe. The 350 mag will be sweet in that boat. If your ever in the Manasquan or even Sandy hook area let me know. I could use your expertise on the 300. Kind regards, Brian

Brian, thanks, and I'll keep that in mind. I do know the 300 intimately, so any questions you might have I will be glad to try and help...

Ive been in 3-4 footers with 20knot winds and let me tell you its no fun in a 240. THank goodness it was only 2 miles i had to go from harbor to harbor. Took 20 minutes to go 2 miles. Couldnt be up on plane because the boat would have gotten beat to death. Prepare to get throughly drenched in the cockpit as those 4 footers come splashing over the bow in really cool huge waves  Be careful if you do go out in that chop with the 240.

makc ,
Thanks for the heads up on that. I do plan to run offshore this summer so I figure I'll get outside and practice. I've run alot of fishing type boats offshore from 21 to 50 ft. but this is the first cruising type boat I'll have taken offshore. I will run with other boats in the same size range (my family) to the abacos. I do know i'm streching the envelope on this boat design, But my family has been crossing the gulf stream for years in small boats. One year I took my 21 ft CC to freeport and we did it in 4-6 ft seas :smt101 I know, I know. A cousin took his 21ft sea ray cuddy across and the only problem was his fuel tank was almost to small. He was running on fumes when we got to G. B. West end. After we get there it's easy to island hop thru the Abacos. In my mind there are so many shallow anchorages to use in the Abacos that larger boats just can't get to or have a difficult time, or risk prop damage. It's all a trade off, so I'll watch my weather window, never be to stubborn to turn back and try tommorrow, or cross with out other boats (family) in my party.

If anyone with a new version 240DA has installed a GPS unit, I would like to know where you mounted the external antenna? There seems to be limited room to mount it as the VHF antenna looks like it will be in the way. Anyone solved this problem yet?

Sea Ray offers chart plotters on the 240DA.............that picture of the dash layout shows the Navman 5505 unit. You might ask your dealer where they mount the factory installed GPS antenna on the 240. I know the Navman can have an internal Antenna as well.
