I love it when I answer my own questions. Still seems weird to be up only
Why weird? It's actually designed that way to keep the drive safe and not let an operator damage it due to user error. The single up/down rocker switch only allows the drive to go up so far... the "safe operating" range. This is known as "trim". Above that, while the engine is on, could damage expensive things in the drive.

The square button cannot really be accidentally pushed - this controls "tilt" - for when the engine is off.

Don't take this the wrong way - it's not meant to be offensive - it sounds like you're pretty new to this boating thing? You would probably find a lof of benefit from reading through the engine's owner's manual - or obtain a copy through a Merc dealer. The Sea Ray owner's manuals have lot's of good info in them, as well. If you don't see your model/year - go to a different year and/or model. The general boating info will be the same.

It would also be good to take a safe boating course.

It’s for ‘tilt’ not trim. Moves a bit quicker when it goes out of trim into tilt if I rem correctly. Up only

LazyDaze just described it a hell of a lot better than I did. Go with his description lol

The trailer mode raises it to its max and ignores sensors. This is a height that is unsafe to operate the stern without potential damage to gimbal and yoke. The up limits travel with the sensor input.

Ok. All makes sense. Nice to get some confirmation what you are thinking. Have had a half dozen boats over 35 years but this is only second I/O so relearning some things from 20 or so years ago. Appreciate direct answers without the pontificating of the experts. Lol.

Interesting. I thought what I provided was helpful - but I'll refrain from helping in the future.
