Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Re: 2003.5-2008 340 Sundacer Thread

Yes, perfect swap for JL 6.5 which I did for the two lower cockpit speakers. No spacers needed. Then I put in the bigger JL 7.7 in the radar arch. No spacer there either. That was a really easy cut with a jig saw.

I have decided to replace the cockpit speakers next weekend. Since the boat is 3 hours away I can't measure but seem to recall that the JL 6.5" speakers are a simple swap out. Correct? I DO NOT want to do any cutting, but anyone who has done his, will I need any sort of spacers to accommodate for depth?

Thanks all. Now I just have to see if a tropical depression forms off to NC coast and ruins the holiday weekend

Has anyone replaced the starboard windshield wiper motor yet? If so how do you access and how long did it take.

Thanks

How did you make out with the wiper motor replacement?

We pulled the speaker cover off and removed the speaker. We couldn't see the wiper motor.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Kim

Adding sat tv antenna

Any 340 owners added satellite tv antennas to their boats ?

I'd like to add one, and want to learn about how to do it properly.

Have Raymarine radar and will weld an antenna holder/base for sat to the radar base, fish wires from arch to cabin, have a single factory fitted lcd at galley and want to add a big led/lcd to aft cabin wall and a small lcd to cockpit wet bar, etc.

Also have you heard about the satellite antenna brand X-Sat ? My electrician buddy is a dealer of it and have a huge discount if I choose that brand.

Hope anyone can shed some light to this project.

TIA

I Pulled the speaker as well and had no luck seeing the motor let alone accessing it. Has anyone had success with this repair?

I never did replace the dang thing. I figured if I were ever out in a storm, at least the strbrd side worked well enough for me to get back in somewhere safe.

And yes I sadly sold her a couple of months ago :smt013

Kreole Kid - I believe they were looking for the port side, which you mentioned seeing in the speaker hole. Do you have any tips for locating that side?

The link you posted above IS the port side. I removed the speaker and stuck my phone in the hole and started snapping until I saw something, and that was the picture that I posted.

IMHO, I just couldn't justify tearing the cabin apart to replace that wiper motor, when the strbrd motor was working fine.

My thinking was that if I got caught in a severe down pour, the wiper that really needs to work, worked. And that would allow me to come in to safe harbor.

My apologies... I meant to say they were looking for the starboard side which you mentioned you had located.

Out of curiosity, did it come up when you sold the boat? Was it an issue for the buyer?

no issue at all, i sold the boat to a real good friend that had his eye on her ever since i purchased her.

and yet another fuel burn question, 2005 340 with 8.1's whats the avg fuel burn per hour at cruise, and whats the avg speed of that cruise? im just looking for ballpark numbers thanks

I have not focused on gallons per hour lately, but I can tell you that my best fuel mileage is 3400 rpm, 28mph .9 mpg. In certain conditions I can do better. Interestingly, ithers have noted an interesting phenomenon that I see as well - I seem to gain almost .1mpg in shallower water

i run through alot of bay where i am, but i fish in the ocean. as soon as i get to the inlet i can feel a different feeling the boat has against the water, almost like the water is more dense. maybe there is less current in the shallower water or something like that

I think it is more to do with compressibility. Since water doesn't compress, the boat forces the water down as it passes over. In shallow water, it can't be forced down, so the hull is better supported (less hull in the water) and drag is reduced. Similar thing happens in ground effect when you are flying.

That is my theory anyway...

I track the GPH fuel burn for each engine at every fill up. Over the past several years (>200 hrs) my total average is 17 GPH (~8.5/engine) across a wide range of destinations and cruising speeds.
