Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

How is the acoustics for the sub at this location? I've been thinking of installing a 10" JL in the same spot but have been wondering how it would sound there.

I don't know how it sounds yet since my boat is shrink wraped and I can't get in to the engine compartment to run the wire. I'll have to take Scott's word for now that it will sound good.

My boat came with the upgraded stereo system and that is the factory location for this system. It sounds really good. It isn't going to win and sound off awards but for listening to music on the boat it really sounds good. The factory upgraded system has a 10" Momo sub there.

Does anybody has part number or size from eye to eye closed position on the hatch actuators , I know by my mechanic that open from eye to eye is 44" .
i want to replace both , don't want to mess around with this hatch, too heavy !! I manually lifted it once with another person helping me and it was crazy , I want both actuators new !! Don't want to pay an arm and a leg for them though, any suggestions?

Does anyone know a source for a service manual for the 8.1L Horizons? I'm getting ready to try my hand at plugs and impellers and figured I would read up on other maintenance that I can do myself.

I have that service manual in PDF format.
PM me your email because, I can't seem to attach it here..

Sent. Thanks Mark. Also for any of you that climb around in your engine compartment. Any advice on how not to damage the engine covers when moving around on them? I was thinking of laying some moving blankets on top of the engines to spread out the load a little. Thoughts?

Where do you guys/gals place your dive tank securely ?

I got my bribe from my 9 yo daughter as a gift an 18 liter steel dive tank and hoses, regulator etc as this is the third time we gave her name to our boat.

I'd like to place it into the front under floor storage in the cabin as I have the autopilot corepack/compass under the electrical panel and don't want to deviate the heading of autopilot. It fits there and I roll it to a large bath towel, but thinking of damaging the tank or surrounding of storage place while running/jumping over the waves.

Dou you have any other places to suggest ?

I don't have the salon couch base storage, it is closed and tried to cut it and it's a tough material, seems more rigid than fiberglass like cement.

Thanks in advance.

I always wondered what was under that seat. I figured there had to be a reason why it wasn't available for storage.

Have you found the hidden storage cabinet in the mid cabin starboard side under the walnut cabinets? Pull out the filler cushion and the panel pops out. The tank may fit there.

I don't think the purpose of the closed couch base for structural integrity since 2006 and older 340's have there storage space.

Yes I know there and use it to hide the engine/generator spare parts. Don't want to put there the tank as it's 19,2 kgs empty and 22 kgs with 18 liters of 200 bar compressed air would kick and open the lid accidentally by beam seas and injure someone there or broke things around the mid cabin floor.

I don't carry the tank in winter except for diving to clean the bottom but will carry it allways in summer so have to determine a dedicated safe spot in the cabin.

I know others have done this previously, but I can't find the posts about it. I'm getting ready to install a 32" tv on the aft bulkhead. There isn't a tv there now. Since the power and stereo are in the cabinet next to the bulkhead, power and sound shouldn't be difficult. The original stock antenna is mounted in the arch, but doesn't appear to be working. I'm thinking of purchasing an amplified indoor digital antenna that looks like a thin piece of plastic. Any suggestions for placement of the tv, routing of power, sound, antenna, or DVD input (it is currently in the stock location by the galley sink) would be appreciated. Pictures and descriptions would be especially helpful. Types of tv mounts used would also help. Thank you

Are you planning to build a shroud around the TV like on the factory installed TVs? If not I'm not sure how you will hide the wires and the TV will stick out a little. I don't have a pic but the factory mount was not adjustable. It basically had a flat receiver mount on the wall and a flat socked on the TV to hang it on the wall. Your current TV might be analog so that may be why you aren't getting reception from the antenna. It should work with the new digital TVs. I hooked my TV into the factory sound system. I also ran two HDMI cables to a wall plate in the mid berth cabinet where I will also connect a blue ray DVD player.

I'm not planning to make it look stock so no shroud. As far as cables, my hope is to install them behind the tv which I know will hang out a little. Any info on your connection to the stereo would be appreciated.
Already tested the digital tv with the stock antenna and it appears to be a no-go.

What size Vizio is that? Nice fit. I'D like to check into doing that also.

His and mine are the same size I think. I put a 32" Vizio in mine. The hardest part was getting the zillions of staples out of the surround so you can enlarge the opening.

The TV I put in mine was a ProScan. I can't remember the size off hand but it was smaller than 32. It fits in the frame and there is a couple inch gap around it. I just bought the boat back then and want to get rid of the analog TV's. I'm not happy with the ProScans at all so now I got a reason to do the 32" upgrade. lol

Im planning on putting my amp somewhere near the factory head unit. So I was wondering where the best place to run the power and ground cables through the aft cabin wall into the engine compartment. I would like to take the shortest route straight thru on the starboard side, but does anyone have any better suggestions?

The best location I could find was behind the recessed nook in the starboard side near the captains foot-well. Basically the plastic insert that has a drink-holder, a tray, and a speaker in it. It unscrews to reveal a fairly large flat surface area where I was able to mount several very large amps, a couple capacitors, etc. and is in very close proximity to the starboard battery bank which meant a very short run for power. For amps, the shorter the better. Speaker wires are routed through there already from the factory so they are an easy grab. Also easy to drop RCA's down into either the electrical area behind the panel in the cabin or in my case to a Audio-Control EQ mounted to the right of the electrical panel inside the aft cabin where the factory DVD for my rear TV is. If you have the factory drink holder that drains into whatever is below it...... either plug it up or get a nice stainless one like the factory installs on the larger Sea Rays. They have drains that can be plumbed away from the electronics so you don't inadvertently serve your electronics a beer if you hit a wave.

For subs also on this thread, I picked under the corner aft cushion on the starboard side for a sealed enclosure 12" dual voice coil firing up and my 2nd location for my 2nd similar enclosure is stuffed back behind the other one in the aft garage in the least valuable/accessible portion far back against the starboard wall. They are both turned way down to balance out nicely against the separates I have in the factory locations. Lots and lots of dynomat on anything/everything in/around the area and I used weather seal and tightened the latches on everything I could like the rear garage/transom door. This set up has worked really well for me acoustically.

32" Vizio; same as Scott. The original opening is a little taller then the new 32" TV. I was able to fill in the gap with the plywood I removed from the width. There was just enough material to make the vinyl cover fit.

I connected the TV to the stereo using RCAs into the AUX RCAs jacks on the Head Unit. I also have a AUX port (which I think is factory) above the lounge seat. This uses the same AUX RCA jack via a "Y" connector. I installed a RCA switch in the draw below the EL closet. This cuts the connection between the TV and the Head Unit when I want to listen to music via my phone and the kids want to watch TV. The down side is they will have to listen to the muffled TV speakers. I tried connected the TV RCA directly into the cabin amp but there was a lot of noise introduced. I also tried adding a filter but it didn't help. Maybe there is some other type filter someone can suggest using.
