Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Thanks for the tip, I'll check for the wires to see what condition they're all in.

I put a set on NGKs (forget the number right now) but thought I could get away with not replacing the wires (pricing being a big factor).

Has any one run a HDMI or other cable from the DVD Player over the galley sink to the TV on the wall next to door? Is so how did you route it?

Tim,
Starting at the TV I went forward on the starboard side behind the cabinets. When I got to the hanging locker I cut across to the port side by taking down the curtain rail and tucking it into to headliner. It was the best route that i could find for the length of HDMI cable that I was using.

Hello. I have a 2006 340 Sundancer. Can anyone give me the measurements of the v berth mattress. Thank you

If you need measurements for a mattress topper get the biggest one you can get, a Cali-king. If its for sheets I think we use king size. It's really wide at the widest point.

We've had our '05 340 2 years now and I really love the boat. Due to work this past year really didn't get to use her much and it was mostly a few quick day trips and a couple overnighters. Winter setting in and although we'll still get out a few times, we are definately warm weather aficionados! I am contemploating some longer trips for the coming spring and summer. How capable/comfortable is this boat as an extended cruiser, i.e., 5-6 day trips? We have done fine for overnight trips with 4 adults but really don't spend much time in the cabin other than to sleep. What have been some of you experiences and things learned on long trips?
We are also nearing retirement in about 24 months and would really like to do the winter in Key West and Keys in general. Is the 340 a realistic boat to attempt this with or am I dreaming a little too big for the boat I have. For a lot of reasons I really don't want to go to anything bigger. It really is a great boat for coastal NC. and does just about everything I want.

I think the 340 is a very cruise worthy boat. We spend 9-10 days on it with my wife and two young boys. We travel with a group of boats and it's a mix of staying at marinas and on the hook, the longest was three nights. The whole trip is about 200 nautical miles. We go across and around Lake Ontario and Canada, which can be treacherous in the open lake. It’s got everything we need to be self sufficient and we don’t need to restock during the trip, just gas and ice. Plenty of storage. Next summer we are planning on two full weeks and going up into the thousand islands. We take a dinghy on a davit and it travels well. Every year we always seem to find ways to improve though. Improving the bedding helps out a lot. We put a 3 inch memory foam on top of the standard mattress. I’ve heard other guys having custom sized mattresses made and they swear by them as the greatest improvement for comfort.

Thanks....I'm going to order a BluRay player and replace the TV with a larger one. The stock one is big enough for me but it doesn't have an HDMI input. I can't hook up my iphone or Apple TV either. Seems the original only has analog inputs.

My next project is a davit setup for my raft. I have a Mercury 8'-6" with an 8HP. If you have, please post pictures of your setup and let me know what davit brand. I would like a system that mounts from under the platform instead of on top, but I don't know of any made this way.

Wondering if anybody can shed some light on my situation. I recently had manifolds and sparkplugs replaced on my 2006 340 with about 400 hrs on twin 8.1s and now hear/feel a nock when the boat is on heavy load and the portside engine tops out at about 3700 rpm (about 400 rpms lower than stbd)
Any ideas, has this happened to anybody else?

Thanks in advance...

I've just had this exact same issue and in very similar circumstances (see separate thread) and discovered the mercruiser tech had hung one of the plug leads so that it touched the exhaust manifold causing it to eventually split and arc across to the exhaust manifold thereby dropping a cylinder and causing the tranny to sound like it had blown. Thankfully I had no fuel vapours!!

As has been previously suggested, a quick inspection of your leads (particularly around the exhaust manifold) may enable you to narrow down the problem fairly quickly. Failing that, it may be your plugs.

I just replaced mine this summer. Check out post #516 of this thread and then some info in posts following that. I went with isotherm. It was expensive but a great fridge.

I just replaced the cockpit fridge with an Isotherm DR 49 which is the drawer version. It looks awesome and it is so much easier getting items in and out because you don't have to get on your hands and knees anymore. I had to enlarge the opening about 1/2 inch on bottom and right side to get it in. I'm gonna do the galley fridge next.

Looks really good.

What, if any, options do I have to quiet the standard Kohler generator in my '05 340. I rarely use it simply because it is so loud it destroys the serenity at anchor and I don't want to bother others anchored up nearby. Not being used isn't doing the gneerator any good either. I'd like to make this a winter project if feasible.

When I first bought my boat I called Kohler and if you provide your serial number they can tell you if they have a sound shield available for your genset. I never followed up as decided it wasn't really an issue me and from reading how difficult it makes maintenance it didn't seem worth while. I looked at this set up down the Miami boat show last year and it seems pretty practical, if I were to do anything this would be it. SS frame mounted to the bilge floor and a soft enclosure, all attached with Velcro I believe. I don't remember the cost.

According to their website, it is $1250. It sounds to me like the OPs issue is more of an exhaust level than a mechanical level. I believe there is another thread addressing that issue with an alternative muffler. Interestingly, I find the exhaust level to not be an issue, and I am pretty picky (the owner of the local SR dealership jokingly called me an anal SOB). What I do find to be an issue is the noise of the generator throttling up when a load such as the AC cuts on while we are sleeping. This may be a good solution to my issue.

I have the swim platform lights option on my 2007 340 (lights under platform). One of the glass broke and I need to replace. I like the lights but they are a bug magnet. Are there other lights I could install in their place that won't attract so many bugs?

Is it normal that both fuel gauges show 1/4 while on plane and shows 1/8 just coming off plane and standing still ? And also same time generator was still running at half load, until how much fuel left will it continue to running ?

My other boat 2005 280DA's fuel gauge shows less on plane and more at rest due to the sender at the front of the tank and pick up tube at the aft of the tank which is located longitudinally to the boat. 340's fuel tank is perpendicular to the boat and senders are close to the pickups if I'm not mistaken.

Looking to put a JL subwoofer and JL XD 700 5v2 5 channel amp I'm my 2006 340 sundancer and need to knowhow to route the wire to sub and amp. Sub is on port side in front of seat.Going to put amp under salon bench seat.
Thanks for your help.
