Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

This is what will prob work. I’ll
Measure the stroke distance tomorrow when at the boat as mine is stuck in the fully open position. They ship out of Arlington Washington just outside Canada. Looks like they shouldn’t be much $ and price brake isn’t huge (website shows break down).

also a less expensive eBay option : not sure what Its rates for IP (weather/dust/moisture) https://www.ebay.com/itm/143632069935

curious how much they quote you let us know! im looking to ordering maby a group discount!
Good idea on the group discount, lol! They quoted me $1276 plus shipping. They sent me two templates for 99 290, so I’m not sure if one will match my 01. The guy I bought my boat from just became a Sea Dek rep, so I’ll also see how his price compares.

I already texted him last night lol. He's working on a price for the Sea Dek, so we can compare. I'll keep you posted.

These are the templates I got from Aqua Marine. Let me know if the file upload worked, and you can see them.

No Power to Shower Sump, Again Still, actually. I have two solid shiny wires, a pump and float switch that work but no power to the wires. The wires dive into the bulkhead under the stair pretty quickly. The sump pump switch on the stern door panel is "on". I don't see anything obvious on the engine compartment bulkhead. I guess I could look harder but I'd be flying blind. If there was an in-line fuse under step its gone now, and replaced. Nothing on the under helm panel seems to be involved. Is there another fuse panel somewhere? Or a switch that needs to be on? I'm not very good with wiring diagrams so they've been no help. I'm stumped.

I’d maybe hop on for a 320 Sundancer . That price is in line with the plasdeck eco series that I priced out (harder product) but lasts longer and is glue down. Only need to last 3 years max but my seadek quote was 2x this plasdeck price. If you can ask for sq ft price vs template price. Easier to compare that way. Also; they giving you installed price or DIY price.

Ok. That's DIY price, and doesn't include shipping. I'll see what my friend from Sea Dek says too, for comparison.

For posterity; I removed the circuit breaker panel near the stern door, bypassed the Sump Pump breaker with a set of alligator clips and found I had power under the step. I removed the Sump Pump breaker (a little fiddley) and replaced it with a new Carling A01 Guarded Rocker Style Circuit Breaker (5 AMP) purchased on-line. Problem finally solved.

Just a follow up - the guy I bought my boat from is also a Sea Dek dealer/installer, so I decided to go that route. Probably about $2K installed.

I just replaced the (2) port engine/house batteries, which were shot, and if you trust whoever scratched off the month & year, they were from June 2014. The 3rd battery (starboard engine, same mfr/model) didn't have any dates scratched off, looks the same age as the others, isn't giving me any problems, and is showing the same resting voltage as the 2 new batteries (13.25V). I bought all 3 new ones, but after testing them all, I only installed the 2 that weren't working. Now I'm having second thoughts, and thinking about replacing the 3rd one anyway, so they're all new. Or, I could return it, or possibly hold onto it, until I need it. My questions are:

1. Would you replace the 3rd one too, return it and save the 150 bucks, or hold onto it?

2. If I hold onto it, does anyone have advice on storing a new battery? I believe you should only store it for a certain amount of time before it should be charged, but I'm not sure. I don't have a portable charger, so if that's a must I'd rather return it, if I don't install it.

id replace it since you have it, but I always made it a habit to replace one of the 3 every few years so there was always a rolling replacement cycle.

I also went cheap on the batteries and got them all from Walmart. When on my pronautic charger they would last a very long time, and the group 27 is like 100 bucks

Ok thanks. I'm leaning towards replacing it, since I have it like you said. I tried Walmart first, but no stock locally..I think due to this crazy year, with everyone buying boats, and all the accessories, parts, toys, etc!

Pictures from a few weeks ago ...... LD II had some long awaited work done.

It's the 1st time seeing LD II out of the water since buying it 3 years ago.

I even had the hull buffed and polished....... they almost got all the ghost lines off the sides but did it shine up nicely. I might have them do it once a year.

I just love this 290.

PS: Sorry I was posting over in the other 290 thread and just realized I was posting in the wrong place. o_O

Hello, I am currently looking into a 1998 SR 290 Sundancer and am curious of things I need to look for. It is a one owner boat and has always been garaged when not in water and is in nice shape. Are the dual 4.3L Merc's a good setup on this boat or an I going to find that to be under powered? Your advice and replys are appreciated. Mike

under powered completely depends on how you'll use it. If its full fuel and water and you're on the great lakes or a large body of water, I think you'll be starved for power. If you want to cruise around lightly loaded or run at 1500rpm for cocktails most of the time you'll be just fine. I had twin 260HP 350's and the boat was really fast (and efficient) but we are on Lake Ontario and can see some big water and long trips where we boat
