Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

Here you go. Take the false wall out behind it (in the lazarette) and you can get to the plumbing

"Lazarette"!!!

Thank you Strecker! I knew that little trunk had a fancy name but I could not find it anywhere.

Has anybody used the aqua marine deck flooring on their 98 -99 290 dancer. Got a price from them for everything from the swim platform to garbage can step for $1,400. They say they do have our templete but when sent to me it looks that they have 2 holes on motor hatch for table. If you did use them please send pics so i can make my final choice to go with that style or just leave the carpet

Thanks for posting that Jeff. I’m very interested in this too, for my 01 290 Sundancer.

Well, our 290 is sold and leaving our slip for the last time tomorrow.

it was a great boat, and amazing first “real” boat. We’ll miss it, but hopefully making a 12’ leap into a 2002 410 in the near future.

My 2001 290 (purchased 6 weeks ago) is also my first "real" boat, so I know what you mean. It was nice getting advice from you on this thread, so thanks for that. How long did you have her?

since February of 2015 so really 5 full seasons. I'll still be around and will keep watch on this thread - i know that boat in and out :)

The last two times out, when I throttle up and plane off, my synch gauge has been reading all the way to port, even when engine rpms, oil pressure and temp are all about the same. The boat seems to be running fine, and it evens out when I slow down, so I’m thinking it might just be a gauge issue. If anyone has any experience, or suggestions, I’d appreciate it.

probably a grounding issue or something is loose. Take the gauge panel out from the dash and you can check or tighten all the connections. My sync gauge port sending wire was loose and caused all kinds of wackiness

Ok I’ll try that, thanks very much

I have some stuff from the boat I won’t need anymore if anyone wants to make some offers. I may put all of it up on CL or the general classifieds here but figured I’d ask you all first.

oil pressure sensor
Ignition module (from under the distributor)
Kohler 4kw oil filter
Quicksilver fuel pressure tester adapter for EFI/TBI
Sierra fuel pump - was installed then uninstalled since it wasn’t the problem. Probably 3-4 hours runtime on it

let me know!

Went out today and the gauge worked fine, so you’re probably right about something being loose. Next time it acts up, I’ll take the panel off and take a look. Thanks again

Ryan - Taking the gauge panel out looks simple enough (10 screws), but do you have any suggestions or advice from your experience, before I do it?

be careful with the panel. If yours is original it will be brittle and easily snap (the gauges are heavy and the space between gauges is pretty slim.

Get a little wire brush and some electrical contact cleaner. A small socket will get the little lock nuts off and you can clean each one.

I'm sure it's original, and has probably never been removed, so thanks for the heads up. My trim gauges don't work, so I can check those connections, while I'm checking the synch gauge. But I've heard it's very common for trim gauges not to work and that it might be the senders.

That price seems reasonable. I emailed Aqua Marine today, to see if they have a template, and price, for my '01 290 SDA

Just a heads up. my center vent window actuator died the day we bought the boat and I wasn't going to pay sea ray $400 for a new one. got one on ebay for $33 shipped and only needed to move the lower mount to have it function perfectly. the old one (going on old memory) didn't open as far and was off center like the person drilling the holes had to run to the bathroom when they were doing it this. now it to opens all the way and closes smoothly and land of pletely. I can replace it more than 10 times and still be on top of pricing. very happy for next year

I got a new tablet and the typing is not as smooth as my old one. sorry if things don't always make sense

Do you happen to have the link to what you purchased. I need the same thing. Happened the day of my sea trial and when i purchased last week as well. Funny how these things die as soon as you purchase.
