Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

Hello again newbie here,

Forgot a few questions, Like fuel consumption on 310's I'm guessing it would be about the same for 454's and 350's as the bigger motor's wouldn't have to work so hard to push such a big boat. I am planning on many long voyages so I have to choose wisely.

Thanks!

Hi everyone just sold my 1995 290 and moved up to a 2001 310 are their any quirks I should know about it's the inboard version .

Has anyone had problems with water pressure in the sinks? The pump is pressurizing the water tank, then stops running until I call for water and then the pumps kicks on but there is not a lot of pressure. I checked for leaks and there aren't any. Has anyone had this problem before and does anyone know if there is a filter someplace that maybe I need to take out and clean?

Thanks.

I had a similar problem with my original pump that was 10-11 years old...I would have to turn on kitchen sink and the water pressure would slowly build up etc. My solution that worked great was a new water pump and cleaned out the screen filter that is inline with the water line from tank to pump. My filter was located right by the pump.

So I think it would make sense to replace the filter first, no.

It sounds to me like one of your water cooling hoses have popped off or broken. I had this happen to me, and soon as it did the engine goes into guardian mode, limiting the power to the engine because of overheating. In my case it was a hose right at the bottom of my port engine, in a place that required a degree in advanced gymnastics to get to it...but that was the problem and it was fixed relatively easily.

Hello,

could anybody suggest me where to buy dual horns for a 2001 Searay 310 Sundancer? In the Parts Manual it is referred as "1413475, Horn, Dual BLK w/Spade Connectors Series 84".

Thanks

As it turns out, there is a filter and it is right at the water pump which is located on the back wall of the engine compartment. It was easier than I thought or than most things are in that compartment. The filter is on the line coming from the water tank before it goes into the pump. I depressurized, took the filter out, cleaned the slime off of it and put it back. Now it pumps great!

Now, onto the leaky hatch in the vberth. Has anyone pulled the hatch out to reseal it?

Hello cabrale,

nice canvas top set up, could you post some photos? Thanks

QUOTE=cabrale;705320]Not sure if this is the right place to post this, if not I will repost it. I have a brand new never used canvas top in tan from my 2001 310 sundancer this is the 3 pieces behind the arch. I guess it's the slant back style. Ordered it by mistake. If anyone's interested let me know $1200. By the way I have my 310 for 7 years now and by far it's the best boat I have ever owned. Absolutely love it[/QUOTE]

Well, mine has 16X15 (350 MAG MPIs w/V-Drives), cruise speed around 20kt at 3800 RPM, consumption around 23.5 Gph (RPM seems to be the best tradeoff between speed and consumption, measured by FC-10 Fuel Computer w/FT-60 Flow Transducer).

Hmmm. That's interesting. Sea Ray must have made some sort of significant change between 2000 and 2002, because my 2002 with Horizons has 17x20 props. The 2002 MPIs were spec'd to run 17x19's.

Anybody knows if there is any filter other than the fuel-water separating filter on 350 MAG MPI set up, 2001 310 SD with V-Drives? Where is it located?

Thbouro. My 31DA 2000 with V Drives has the 300 hp merc's each engine has the fuel pump assembly unit which also has a filter unit located inside a retanguler box. The fuel / filter unit is cooled down by two hoses raw water that keeps the fuel pumps cool. The unit has a few screws on the top of the box and a small handle which is used to pull out the filters. The filters run about 40 to 45 bucks. This can been seen in the manuals diagram breakdown. Hope this is helpful.

Battery questions and suggestions

Need to change my 98' 310 batteries. Right now got 3 AC Delco Group 27.

My boat has only 2 battery switches. Is this one switch for the engines and the other is the house switch?

I want to add another battery to the house but not sure how is the switches setup.

Thanks for any help with this!

BTW, it's been almost a year now and getting ready to finish my project. What a long ride!

In my 2001 model one switch is for the port battery and the second for the other two batteries which are connected each other.

So there's no engine switch and house switch?

The two batteries connected in parallel, what exactly they power?

Thanks!!

With the three battery setup, the port battery will be connected to the port engine. The two starboard batteries are connected together and provide power to the starboard engine and most all boat accessories. This setup allows the port battery to be dedicated to engine starting, so if the other two batteries become weak the engine can still be started. There is also an emergency start solenoid switch on the helm that can be activated in the event of a weak battery. This switch will temporarily connect the batteries together for additional starting voltage.

So there's no engine switch and house switch?

Hello Vida,

I searched the schematics in the Service Manual and the only filter I found is a very small one located into the Cool Fuel System. Below is a link to the Cool Fuel System schematic, the only filter I can find is the #16, I doubt this is the one you are talking about. In my fuel system set up there is one electric fuel pump, I can not see any filter (other than the fuel-water separating filter) close to it. Could you give me more details or any photo showing the location on the engine?

Thanks

Props selection

I own a 2001 Searay 310 SD with T-350 MAG MPI (300HP) with V-Drives (Hurth 630V), ratio 1.55:1, cruise speed around 20kt at 3800 RPM and max 24-26kt at 4000-4300 RPM (WOT). According to the manual I should have 4400-4800 RPM WOT. The props are 16" X 15" three blade bronze.

According to the Searay Drive and Prop Matrix, the prop size should be as follow:
YEAR: 2001
MODEL: 310DA
ENGINE OPTION: TVD-350 MAG MPI (300 PHP) MERC.
DRIVE: INBOARDS
RATIO: 2.00:1
PROP SIZE: 17"X 20"X 1.5" R3BMC NIBRA / 17"X 20"X 1.5" L3BMC NIBRA
PROP PART N0.: 1592732 / 1592724
WIDE OPEN THROTTLE RPM: 4800

The ratio in my set-up (1.55:1) differs than the one depicted on the Searay's site matrix (2.00:1), as well as the props size (existing 16"X15" vs indicated 17"X20"). The boat is second hand so I am not sure if the previous owner has changed the props. Any feedback concerning the ideal props size for the boat? Has anybody changed to four blades and comments?

Thanks

Can anyone tell me where to fine one or who made the boarding ladders for a 2001 310 ?

The filter you are referring to is the one I was indicating. It is found inside / next to the fuel pump assembly. It's the only one installed in the system. I was told by some mechanics that an additional water separator / filter can be installed within the fuel line. The small filter inside the fuel pump assembly is to protect the fuel pump from debris. I have not installed additional filters (both engines) but i am strongly consisting it since it would remove moisture from the fuel which the current small filter does not. One obervation made is that the filtering unit can not be the one with the clear drain system these are only used in outbroards.

Closed oil filter type only.

Sal A. There is a kit to repair the orginal ladder. It cost about 80 dollars much less than a new unit since they run about 400 bucks. My ladder was in great shape for the exception of the black supports that held the ladder together. It was guick repair and the ladder is working as new. Hope this is helpful.
