Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

I have gotten my boat all spiffed up. Buff that boat! (I am sick of Buff Magic)!

And, I finally got around to installing an EOH Brake system on the trailer. The P3 controller from Tekonsa has been replaced by the P2 which is a better control unit.
Used SS bolts and locknuts to mount the Dexter Actuator, Break Away Battery and clamps for brakes lines and wires. The EOH brakes are a tremendous improvement. If you decide to do this, be sure to replace the 16 guage ground wire that the builder put in the trailer wiring harness with 12 guage wire. Instead of pinning the hitch coupler, I took it to a shop and had it welded.

You have been busy my friend.....looks good. I have heard good things about EOH brakes. I need to get my coupler welded also.

In case you missed my other thread, I fixed my generator. It would run great for about 5 minutes and then shut down. It was the electric fuel pump.

Thanks for the update on the generator, how did you determine it was the fuel pump and where did you find a replacement?

I changed the impeller, put in a new oil pressure switch, new spark plug, bypassed the exhaust temp & engine temp switches, removed and cleaned the carb as well as the filter in the fuel pump..... all to no avail.

I called Cummins/Onan and got a very helpful tech on the phone. He said the electric fuel pumps are known to go bad. They will shut off when they get hot and work again when they cool down. I actually had a few here on CSR say the same. New fuel pump fixed it ($185 shipped).

I ordered it from the Cummins Bridgeway which is about 30minutes from me. 513-563-6670. There is also a different vendor that I have ordered gennie parts from here: http://generator-parts.com/onan/

I have a 1990 270 da put 140 thermostsat in it put new impellar kit in at idle runs 145 at 2000 rpm on hose starts to heat right up to 165 and would keep going pulled hose off of thermostat housing pump putting out lots of water this is on 454 bravo1 I did flush system got lots of old impellar out always been used in very clean fresh water do you think main circulator pump bad doesn't leak out weap hole or do I need manifolds and risers?

They say not to run the engine above an idle on a flush/hose, that it needs more water than the hose can supply and can collapse the garden hose. You probably have an oil cooler on the lower port side of the engine which is usually the first place debris from broken impellers winds up. You stated you flushed the system and got out pieces of old impellers, double check and make sure you got it all. Good luck!

Thanks that is were we got pieces out of ran yesterday145 at idle 2000 rpm 165 kept looking at ear muffs some water still comming out around them will take to lake this week were in 2 weeks we will be on boat for a week on vacation so everything needs to be right.

Want to really burn some fuel? Pull a wakeboard with your 290!

Hmmmmm!!!!........Okay!
I'm gonna create a video based around my "dual group 27" battery case!

I got the beast out of the slip this morning and now we are prepping it for an 1,100 trip to Clayton, NY. Leaving on Thursday. I just put $2K into the trailer (EOH braking, wheel bearings and tires), so, hopefully everthing will stay glued together.

Have a great trip and we will need pics.

Have a safe trip JerryS......your passing not too far from us. We were hoping to do Clayton this summer but we are in the middle of a total kitchen redo. We would love to see pictures and follow your trip. There is a Sea Ray Dealer in Alexandria Bay we were planning on staying at as a home base for three or four days. Keep in touch, Mike.

ok took to lake 145 at idle 2500 rpm in neutral 155 put in gear on plain 3400 rpm heats up slowly to 190 after about 10 minutes bring to idle cools to 150 within about 3 minutes run up to 4500 rpm raises to about 190 within 3 minutes and would still climb shut down to idle back to155 in about 3 minutes brought home flush oil cooler back wards with white sock over it no debrie out flows water great when in water checked hoses to thermostat all cool risers put hand on hot only keep hands on for couple seconds at 2500 rpm at neutral took risers off look fine blow water in 3/4 inlet water seems to flow goog out holes going out back also fills oval holes right up both exhaust flapper shot and melted spacers look even cleaner in oval ports could it be main circulator pump doesn't leak any ideas?

Had a boat that did some wierd over heat issue's, It was the water intake hose on the lower unit. Cracked in it and kinked at times. Something to look at.

Thanks will look at that this morning.

I felt all around it feels good tomorrow I am going to put muffs on it to see if I see water come out of it any were any other ideas on how to test it don't have time to pull drive off were we are leaving next Saturday for week have to put exhaust altogether on monday and test dealer said take thermostat out for trip so I will get more.flow thanks for ideas
