Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

1/2" birch ply. it comes in 4x8 sheets at home depot. untreated it will last longer than the boat, but I have been rolling on west systems epoxy or total boat penetrating epoxy to waterproof it. In my opinion that makes it better than marine ply.

built a rack for my amps that live in the bilge. they go right in front of the port muffler on that cross beam. 1/2" birch ply soaked in penetrating epoxy.

also received my new drain plug light. replacing my 10 watt with this 50w since they are on sale this week. I also have 4 10w led's mounted to my trim tabs.

I spent the day getting the boat ready to launch this Thursday. All the systems are in running order connected the batteries and they were still charged. Cleaned the sides off and waxed the sides. I noticed a water leak between the two port windows. I resealed the port marker light it was the only thing that could have leaked water like that now I have to take my carpet spot cleaner to the boat and clean the side wall. I am going to re-caulk the top side of the rub rail tomorrow and wax the underside of the hull. Going in 3 weeks early this year. I had planned on changing both gimble rings as the steering is sloppy but the marine needs the boat in now. They will pull it and do the job the end of June. Both motors have to come out and I will change all the thru hull fittings then also. Great time to paint the bilge area.

Some one had asked if the generator can come out the access door for the generator so I measured today. No way can it come out that hole with out taking it apart. The port engine needs to be removed to take it out in one assembly. Even taking it apart it still might not come out that little opening.

Hooray for an early launch!!

We haven't been out as much as usual due to a shift cable problem. S'posed to be hauling out this coming Mon but mechanic hasn't confirmed yet. :(

And that was me asking about removing the genny, so thank you. Hadn't measured yet, but just from eyeballing knew it would take a heckuva lot of geometry and maybe even more yoga, if it was possible at all. I don't think the (prior) mechanic had ever done it when he said it could be done.

Current mechanic said it might be possible by removing the metal framing for the engine hatches, then cutting (and ultimately re-fabricating) the "bar" of fiberglass running between the top edge of the engine hatches and the bottom edge of the genny hatch. Any which way it goes, it's a careful, pricey job just to get adequate access.

And speaking of pricey, thank you to the person who mentioned "sticker shock" way back there, as well. I figured gens would be extra large boat bucks, and with the oomph from this thread I knew to sit down and be well-bolstered before googling!!!

starting the engines on the hose today after work.

wish me luck.

Any pics?

My was installed by the factory and is inside the small storage locker by the starboard step that gives you access to the side walkway.

well I found out that when I ran over a fishing net last year I apparently bent the strut on my starboard side..

I do all my own work, but this is unfamiliar territory and will be letting an actual marine mechanic take over...

new cutlass bearings are in though..

Cantina, let me see what I can do. Mine is also factory installed. Look at C35, if this photo will appear. If not shoot me a email at dwna1a@aol.com and I will send you the parts manual

must of been one hell of a fishing net! Good luck with her, I just had mine rebedded after running aground.

does anyone know where i can find either a throttle control or the parts for the control? in particular the parts i need; not sure what they are called but its a small 1/2 inch plastic piece with a "u" shape that the control cable goes in which is housed in the cable nesting box that holds the cable in place so the control cable can slide back an forth in the sheathing. somehow i misplaced two of them and having a terrible time finding even the whole controller. its a morse control, twin direct drive so, two shift controls and two throttle controls. border line desperate here. the boat I've been restoring since oct. is about a week from ready to go in accept for these two parts. thanks in advance for any help.

Any chance you can post a picture of the part? Also what model shifter is it?

I believe I have the manual for the shifter scanned. I will look but I have the printed manual around here. I will look it up for you.

when I am not so busy I would like to create a public folder in my google drive where we can store all of the documents we have for the boats collectively.

right now is a bad time though lol

Does anyone have any experience with the Michigan wheel vortex or any other 4 blade props for the Sundancers? I am looking at ordering them in a 15X16 as recommended by Delta Prop. I am currently running 14.5X19 aluminum mercruisers with decent performance but I would like to get a little better hole shot with the heavy loads that I seem to always be hauling in my boat.

I've switched to 4's but I'm running inboards. What would you like to know?

Knock on wood, no issues thus far.
