Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

This might be over kill but I will throw it in. When they did mine last year I had them replace the hoses as well. Yes, I paid someone else to do that and replace the risers and manifolds as well. They just did the Starboard side this week.

I feel like I should join the Hole in the Water Club.

A little update on my cockpit project.

all of the panels have been built out of 1/2" birch ply and coated in penetrating epoxy. I opted to get rid of the pockets in the back panels since I literally never use them.

I did add some sealed boxes for the powered 6x9's I am adding this year.

excuse the mess. my side panels were very rotted.

Looking good. I would hate missing the rear storage, but you already know you don't use it, so it works for you. Looks like you might be continuing the new upholstery up the sides and forward.

I need to get some updated pics of mine up as well. I'm going to splash her for the summer later this week. Very pumped.

yeah, I will be continuing to the big panels next.

not looking forward to it.

She's looking great! Can mine be next?

I went out yesterday. I have a slip neighbor that wanted to follow me to a restaurant up on the Chickohominy River. I ran her aground HARD on a mudflat. She has to come out to see what damage I've done.

I should have stayed in my slip

Sorry to hear that. I hope it was simply the hull into mud and nothing to do with the drivetrain.

I really like your project...looks like a job well done.
You pictures remind me of a question I'm hoping someone can answer. My 83 Sundance has large wood trim around the back half of the cockpit....much more than yours.
Does anyone know if Sea Ray used teak for all this trim, or possibly mahogany? Mine appears to have been stained and thinking about refinishing.

Sea Ray used teak for all of the trim. Never seen mahogany on a ray to date.

finished wiring up the speakers and sealing the boxes for them that are mounted to the back of the new side panels. The 6x9's will be getting 100 watts rms each so its imperative that I get it all right.

I still need to mount the seat base and cushions (they are just laying there in the pics)

when I make the mounts for the bottoms of the cushions I need to pre-load the cushions so they fit nice and tight together and are out of the way of the transom door.

still need to make the back rest frame and drop it off to my upholstery guy.

She came out for inspection yesterday. I dodged a bullet. I cut a lot of grass and reeds but I also must have found an old hemp line. It was wrapped around my props and struts. While she's out I'm rebedding my struts, my port strut was leaking around the bolts that hold it in place.

thats not a terrible job.

I did all that when I converted to dripless shafts 2 years ago.

I'm very impressed with my bottom paint and zinc. I painted it back in October and she sat all winter in her slip. I had no growth of any kinda. While my neighbors boats were done late spring and already had divers cleaning their props and shafts. I switched and used heavy zincs, all of those are holding up very well.

just put my last coat of west systems 105/207 epoxy on my teak. I will let it cure for 72 hours and sand it lightly with 220 to start the varnishing process.

on the fence about which varnish I will use, but I have a can of captains on hand, and 2 cans of epiphanes.
