Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Last night I finished up construction of the new seat base, and started on the new side panels that go in the far aft cockpit. (more rot)

the starboard side panel back there will be structural for the seat cushion now so it was highly necessary to remake it.

keep in mind, those last pics is not how the cushions will sit in the boat, I just didnt have anything to set the smallest cushion on since it rests on the side panel..

all I have to do now is coat everything in smiths penetrating epoxy and paint it white with awlgrip marine white gloss

the goal (thanks again TITAN !)

Wow. Excellent work! That is going to really look amazing when you're done. Now I feel like I should be redoing mine...

Looks fantastic! You could start a business building seats for old Sea Rays.

by the way Titan, you forgot to give me the height measurement of the seat base :)

I figured it out from know reference points in the pictures lol

I felt like sherlock holmes last weekend

Can anyone please tell me where to find one of those bases? I want to put two Todd seats on the top of it and need the storage in the base.

if you're talking about the bases I just built I searched high and low for years before giving up and just building my own.

Ok folks, I'm a little embarrassed about this, but I have a question.
I have been off the water for more than a few years. Recently I had an offer that I was crazy to not take. I bought an 85' Sea Ray Sundancer 300 from an old family friend for WAY less than it was worth.
My question is if there is anything I should be wary of and making sure to address before getting carried away?
Right now the only thing I know is that I want to find the spoiler(radar arch) for it, and then some canvas.
Advice?

Update: I posted this on another forum and go bashed about buying an old boat, the fact that it surely is rotten. What have I gotten into? I'm not ashamed to say I bought it for $5,000.00 from friends that knew I would keep and care for what had been their baby.

Maybe???

Good on ya! Recently bought an 83 310 Sundancer for a couple grand more than you.
with no idea when the last time things were done have been looking at all the general maintenance items...thermostats, impellers, anodes, oil change, pulling drain plugs to check for sand blockage, checking hoses, etc.
maybe someone will post a list, but so far only serious need has been new stuffing boxes...(one was cross threaded)....marina wanted $700 each but found NOS for $350 for the pair on eBay

if it was properly maintained its still a nice boat!

I ran the baby out today in an effort to run away from some problems.

She was on plain at 2800 22.5mph
layed down nice a smooth as silk at 3000 29mph
flat out flying at 3500 with the secondary's open 32mph
at 4000i maxed her out 38mph

those four blade props are worth it to me!

Wow! I don't have specific speed numbers for rpms like that, but I know that I'm no where near your numbers. I'm on stock 3 blades. That's very impressive. I don't recall from earlier posts, but do you remember what those numbers where with the old props?

Those numbers are pretty much identical to my boat with the oem 3 blade props. I cruise at 2800 doing about 25mph.

I soaked the new back seat base in All Boat Penetrating epoxy yesterday. looks good and should protect it for a good long time. I will be using awl grip to paint it white next weekend.

Only numbers I remember was it took 3000 just to get her up on plane. Once she was there I was getting around 26/27mph. It took forever to get her on plane. Once there I could back her down to 2800, she has always been happy at 2800.

Wow! I need to run at 3200 to stay on plane. 2800 and I'm plowing. At 3200 I am at 27mph. I need to go on a diet...

Mark, keep in mind I did put my old girl on a weight loss program. Just those back to back seats weighed over 150 pounds each. I cleaned a couple of layers of old paint, and only keep half tank of water and the holding tank empty. Even went as far as removing all the coolers and adding a 12v fridge. She's pretty well balanced now as well. Now when the wife and girls are with me all that gets thrown out the window

LOL. Everyone that goes out with us has to sit on the back seat. The swim platform is usually under water at no wake speed. But she still gets up and goes with a little tab action.

Wow--I feel a whole lot better now! Our platform is quite close to the water at rest, and it was really bothering me to have it even lower under way. Just got a port trim solenoid replaced (waaaaaay overdue--I feel quite sheepish saying we've never messed with the trim), so we're looking forward to finding the sweet spots for everything from doodling at the marina to beating feet to the party zone.

When the tabs are fully up I can get up on plane without a problem. At 2900 rpm I start to bump them down slightly. My RPMs will go up to 3200, 3300. You can also tell the motors are not lugging.
