:smt021I have a question:
does anyone know if a radar arch from 86 340 would fit 85 260?
Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

]Well I have been doing quite a few changes to my boat and I also know we've got quite a few of us on here now. I don't really consider what m doing a "restoration" so instead of doing a restore thread I thought I'd start this and hopefully we can share some good ideas. Here's a few of the things I've been up to.

First was painting he cabin. It has made a big difference with brightness and updating.

I also built and painted this shelf. It's worked out great.

I replaced the old table with this cherry veneer table.

As you can see in these pics I also replaced the carpet with hardwood teak and holly.

Replaced all of the old camper style lights with these all LED lights

Installed blue LEDs

Thanks to Quints wonderful suggestion, I installed these stainless cup holders

I installed this L lounger found on Craigslist from a 1999 370EC and the pedestal table purchased from eBay.

You can also see in the pics I removed the rails and teak from the stern and gunwales and had brushed anodized aluminum pieces custom made to finish it off.

Current projects in the works include removing pin striping, which is done but the top side still needs to be buffed and polished. The other exciting one is the canvas. Our canvas guy starts this week replacing all canvas with the tan Sea Ray color canvas. We are very excited about that project. That's all for now. Please feel free to leave comments or suggestions. More importantly, lets see what you're doing with yours!!!! Its time for some new ideas!!!! :)[/QUOTE]

Wow, Captn Cleve. That really looks nice - all parts. I'm especially interested in hearing about the painting. I'm in the middle of a multi-year project in updating mine and just this weekend while we were installing the new upholstery my wife mentioned painting the dark wood to lighten things up. What was your process and were you happy with it?

nice! i'm interested in hearing about the rear seating. i love the older Sundancers but hate the cockpit seating, mainly the bench along the rear. that looks good there. how do you access your engine bay with that seat there?

Capt Cleve,
I'm glad to see your pics posted up front! When I started looking at this forum, I started at the first page, which had your pics. I was excited to start my own list of "restorations/rejuvenation's". Great motivation! Thanks.

TitanTn,
There is a member , Tritone who has done quite a bit of updating to his 87 Weekender if you can find his threads. Allot of great info there. I'm starting with redoing the dinette cushions in blue and white stripes sunbrella material, I'm replicating a 89 sundancer cabinets: removed the drawers, took off handles, taped off edges and painted white primer first, then semi gloss before replacing handles. Hull lining and replacing carpet floors with Allure planking is next.....The list goes on.....

Can't quite tell if you're truly asking this question or if it's a sarcastic quote left over from a long ago post....but I sincerely doubt this is manageable without a full redesign and a LOT of slicing/dicing. The 260 beam is 8' wide and the 340 is a hair shy of 12'. Of course, if you've got the tools and the skills and a burning desire for another really fun project, why not? It's just time and money, right?

Hello all,
I'm installing A/C in our '88 Sundancer, from what I can gather, the A/C raw water pump is located in forward bilge in the aft cabin? How much noise will the pump produce? Wife won't be happy if it keeps her up at night.

TIA

Hello all,

It is very quiet, with the aft cabin cushions in it's not more than a light hum in the aft cabin, in the vee berth you can't hear it at all. The air handler fan drowns out any pump noise. Do yourself a favor and install a March pump, they are the best I've had, and water cooled. Avoid Calmarine they are expensive, get quite hot and don't last. I had two in about three years and finally tossed them and installed a March.

Solid info. I agree!

Last year my wife and to went out for the weekend she would nap in the berth right over the pump, she never heard a thing.

Stick with March pumps.

Capt. Can I ask you something? Do you know where your boat came from, it's past owner? Did you name her or did she come with that name? She looks like Shaun's old 88, I loved that boat!

She looks great!

I thought those pics looked familiar...

My wife and I found the aft berth more comfortable than the forward and slept back there all the time. The AC pump never bothered us. In fact, I don't remember ever hearing it run while we were sleeping back there. The sound of the AC unit itself running was background noise, but not the pump.

Worked all day, but I'm excited about what I accomplished. Replaced all the batteries and finally got something that I think will last and do a good job. My batteries are now setup as such:

850CCA Marine starting battery wired directly to the port engine. A hybrid, marine, deep cycle/starting battery for starting the starboard engine and running the house on a daily basis. Two, 6 volt golf cart batteries connected in series for the overnight, true deep cycle needs.

This is definitely all I need for running around the lake for the weekend, but I'm also trying to get ready for our summer trip to the Bahamas where we'll be anchored out for at least a week. It has been a lot of work to get ready, but I'm getting close. Batteries - done!

What is the reasoning for 2 golf cart batteries vs one more deep cycle marine battery?

Because a deep cycle is only as good as how many Amp Hours it can run. Your average marine deep cycle is much less. My golf cart batteries in series are putting out 230a mp hours of true deep cycle. To do the same with a 12V battery it would cost about $500 and would weigh too much for me to put in my engine compartment. By using 2 - 6 volt batteries I have less weight and great capacity at only $200 versus $500.
