Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

yepp thats me.

people have been telling me to sound more excited lol

the list of things to do is daunting... its hard to be super positive.

I checked out your vlog's from 1-4 and it has given me more insight on remodeling my 300 WE. Thanks.

You sure do have your work cut out for you, it's going to be a very beautiful boat.!

I wanted to thank all those that gave me guildence on the pump replacement.

It wasn't that bad the old pump was shot. I used a heat gun to get the old hoses off. Both were dry as a bone, no fluids had been in them in a very long time.

It was a tough spot to work in but it needed to be done

Glad you got it done. Sometimes the hardest part is getting started. And as far as being a tough spot... I haven't found anything that isn't in a tough spot in that bilge!

Glad you got it done. I remember dreading doing it in my 300 Sundancer and then it taking forever when I finally got the motivation to tackle it.

Pure88, you've told me in the past but I can't find it so two questions

What light did you use to light up the SeaRay Logo and were did you wire it to?
Also, how do you replace the old switch lighting strips? It would be nice to be able to see them in the late evenings

Hi, i have a 300 DA 87, was wondering if you know how to take out those bow windows and what would be a good replacement lens. I have to redo all 4 of mine . you can email me at JD9A4z@gmail.com or leave a reply in my box here. Thanks. Been redoing mine. what a job.

If you mean the oval port windows, remove the trim ring on the outside and you will see the attaching screws. Also, remove inner trim ring. New ones can be purchased from serayman13 on eBay. I got complete units with lens and trim rings as mine were yellowed and you will likely break them removing old one. Clean the old sealer and Rebed new units in good sealer. Really makes the boat look better.

Rub rail leaking on 87 300DA:

Water is leaking through the rub rail. I removed the cabinet over the galley and the rub rail .75 by 1.5 inch wood backing strip is wet and deteriorating. I am going to remove the exterior aluminum rail and replace the internal backing strip.

Any suggestion on the procedure, wood to use and sealant (3M 4200?) are appreciated.

Thanks, gck

I started to tackle sealing up some bow rail stanchions on my 85 Weekender and happened to start on the rear starboard one. Which looks like I will need to disassemble the lower potion of the console to get to the nuts on the backing plate as they just spin. Has someone gone through the same issue? Is taking the lower console apart the only way to get to the nuts on the backing plate?

Much grass in advance!

Some helm stations are different than others, but there's not a lot of dissembling that needs to be done. Those rear bolts are hard to get to but it can be done with minimal disruption to the helm. It's a 2-person job.

There are multiple threads on the topic of rebedding stanchions, cleats, and rub rail; this is a short one I found helpful to my research. Good pics of rub rail job.

Look into replacements/plan B for the exterior aluminum rail in case you have a hard time removing yours or shaping it properly for smooth re-installation.

How ironic this subject is fresh on the plate. I think I may have a problem with the rr on the starboard side over the porthole as a section. I noticed inside the hanging locker the lining was wet a few months ago and my wife and I dried everything, but this is with the boat out of the water. From the outside I noticed a section of the rr that was not straight and also the ss screw behind them were just spinning. Not happy about that.

Does anyone know where I can get the plastic sliding roller that goes on to the curtain rod? The one between galley and vberth??
