Thought I would share a trip my wife and I took this weekend to New York City.
We traveled west in Long Island Sound and I photographed some of the bridges we passed under, some famous, some not so.

This is a Railroad bridge over the infamous HellGate. Notice the wierd way the water looks here, lots of little whirlpools and eddy currents. That's the Triboro Bridge in the background

trip2.jpg

This view is from the East River and that is the Chrysler building

trip3.jpg

This of course is the Empire State Building. It was absolutely surreal driving the boat along side this skyline.

trip4.jpg

The Brooklyn Bridge with the Manhattan Skyline as a backdrop.

No words necessary here....

This is a picture of The building that some of your ancestors were processed through when they arrived here...Ellis Island.

trip7.jpg

This is a shot of lower Manhattan, The center of this picture is where the Twin Towers once stood.....there are no words....

Here is a picture of my humble little 240DA safe in her slip at the Brewers Capri Marina in Port Washington. The facilities here are first rate.

trip9.jpg

Here is the undisputed heavyweight champ. The boat to the right is a new 420DA, just to give this Yacht some scale. Sorry Skip.....

Here it is again with the "garage" door opened. There is a 28' runabout tucked in there. Not too shabby.

That's it for the pics. The weather was perfect, and the food and the company was great and we were on a boat, what else is there?

Great pics. Looks like you had a great time and beautiful weather.
Thanks for sharing!

I go up to New York a few times a year and I always see the boats, sometimes Sea Rays, cruising around the East River. I keep telling my wife I'd like to do that some day. Looks like you had a great time. Where's Port Washington?

JG, Thanks for getting a good picture of my "other boat". The helicoptor is for sale in case anyone is interested. It's not my color but it came with the boat. Great pictures JG

JG, those are great pictures. Thank you very much for posting them. I really wish I could make a trip like that, but it would be a long ways to tow the boat! But it is great to see it in pictures.

That's it and what most of us strive for. Those are great pictures; thank you for sharing.

JG - Great job with the pics. Every year we take the trip to the Statue of Liberty from Bridgeport, CT. It is absolutely awesome to cruise by the bridges and buildings you noted. We always stop at Liberty Landing for gas and a stretch. On our way home we always go to Port Washington for lunch at Datameos (sp?). I have seen some of the biggest ships there. Never saw the helicopter, but once noted there was a dingy was bigger than my boat, along with a Jeep, sitting along side it. You are in a beautiful marina. I love to visit there.

Thanks for the pics.

Port Washington is on the north shore of Long Island just east of NYC. It is part of Long Islands "Gold Coast". It gave us a chance to see how the other side lives and as you can see things are pretty good there...

How long is the round trip to the Statue of Liberty?

Great photos!

We came up though New York Harbor on our way home to CT on Saturday. We also got some great photos.

On our way South we also stayed at Brewer Capri and were impressed with that huge boat. Interesting that in most of the places we stayed over 2 weeks, we were among the smallest boats on the dock at each. Very humbling in deed.

JG, great photos. Especially the Statue of Liberty.

Question, why are the cohones at the top of that big yacht with the chopper, rather than at the bottom?

Personally I would like to go for a ride on the boat to the left of the big boat with the three outdrives on it.

I'm not sure what part of Conn you're from but we left from Smithtown Bay on the Long Island side which is directly across from Black Rock/Bridgeport and it took us 2 1/2hrs.

It took us about the same - 2 1/2 hrs from dock to the Statue of Liberty. We cruise at around 27-28 mph.

looks like a nice trip. everytime I venture into the harbor it's wake day and I feel like my 280 is a row boat.

When I get my SeaTow membership, I think I'll give it a run, sounds awesome... tack on another 45 minutes for me being up river...

How about fuel stops? Food? Any good places to anchor and take up some views for a few hours?

Are you doing this in a day or staying over somewhere?
