I bought a 1989 Sea Ray 160 bow rider abt. a week ago. Over all the boat seems in really good shape for its age seats are good has just 100 hours on it. It was dry stored. I just got tired of hanging out under the bridges at the beach like a homeless woman with my daughter fishing. My budget was kind of slim. Did I know what I was doing absolutely not but this one looked like someone at least took care of it. I am a desk clerk I emptied my savings and most of my checking to get this boat then pay taxes insurance and reg. tittle . We had a pontoon 15yr ago its been a while. My husband can drive the boat and back the trailer I am the driving force behind buying and paying for it. Our priorities are different I worry about salt away and hydraulic leaks he worries abt speaker covers. I was going to get a simple aluminum v hull fishing boat but my fishing buddy announced she was having a baby and my priorities changed to a larger more comfy baby container we can fish from.
Gear shift throttle control works for every function except for the button that lets you disengage the propeller and give it gas. The trigger or button is all play. Does anyone have something showing how everything is suppose to be hooked up so when we look at it we can see what we need to tighten or replace. It may be obvious when we open it up but if not it would be nice to see what it should look like.
We changed the oil in the lower unit and are changing the plugs and fuel filter this weekend the motor is stalling only when it is not in gear and idling
The only other issue we have found is the seals on the Teleflex steering ram are leaking. I ordered the seal kit and the filler bleeder tube. Ran out of money and want to get the sea star hydraulic fluid white lithium grease and corrosion resistant stuff along with a ground wire for it before we take it apart. I read like crazy and watch u tube when I want to get something done so I have checked the steering rod it is not scratched or pitted in any way so the seals should work to end the leak.
