New England – Points of Interest

Do you guys recall if there's a big difference (just and AVG) in fuel prices between MV (Vineyard Haven) and places on CT side like Mystic, Point Judith? I'm just thinking if it's worth spending time to go other places or should I just fuel up at VH?

If you're headed up the Northern end of Buzzard's Bay, hit up Kingman Yacht Center on the East side of the bay, best deals in the area. Otherwise, bend over :smt089

I just looked Kingman Yacht Center up and it's way out of my route. It sounds like the safest bet would be to fill the tanks before I get to the islands. I think places like Noank or Stonington are right along the way and might be much cheaper.

Alex,

If you are stopping in Watch Hill, 1.5 miles up the river is Avondale boat yard. I believe they sell diesel fuel

If you want to go whale watching there is no area south of the cape.......I would go through canal and visit P Town.....Follow whale watch boat out, but all you have to do is head due north to Stellwagon and you will see them.....I would then go around PTown to Nantucket, then MV and so on...

Thanks John. I guess I'll have to do this on a different trip when I go to explore Cape Cod area. I just don't have enough days to do it all now. But, honestly I'd like to have reasons to comeback. Cape Cod's area should be one of them.

Yes, if your not headed up that way it is out of the way, but it's not too bad considering you can cut right back through Woods Hole. They have a couple of 50/50 events each year, one during the end of your week...check out their calendar on their site. http://www.kingmanyachtcenter.com/event/

That's great incentive. Thanks Chuck. It's always good to have few options on the float plan. I'll see what will work better as we're be making our way northbound.

We found Newport was an easy in and out for fuel to and from Nantucket. We stopped there and shopped and had some nice dinners. It also worked out range wise for our trip.

When we fueled up in Newport, we called the fuel barge and they came right to the boat. It was the cheapest around, and very convenient.

Following the whale watch boat was a great way to see the whales. I think I posted about our trip up that way. The whales were amazing.

I'm surprised to hear about Newport. I thought fuel there is sold at astronomical prices. If that's not the case, I'll be sure to add it to the list of possible fuel stops.

Greg, where did you do it, out of Cape Cod?

I forgot about the barge, I'm a gas guy - If your staying (this would not be for a quick fuel only stop) in Newport contact Casey's he operates the barge - and, yes - its reasonable - there is nowhere to get cheap gasoline in newport though......

cheap is relative. I thought it was a bargain compared to block and nantucket.

Provincetown. I found our post about it. You should skim through it again, great memories.

Here is where we finally saw the whales. I'm sure this location moves though.

Casey's. Yup, that's the name of the barge company. There's a pic of them filling the boat in that other post.

Thanks guys, I found the marina's site: http://www.caseysmarina.com/ It doesn't look like it's too much out of the way. As long as the barge is there it should be a quick hop over.

Thanks Greg. That's where I thought you went. As John said it's all north of or around Cape Cod. I guess this will have to be done on a different trip.

You guys can always just come visit me......

Thanks John. As we get closer to the date I'll let you know when my float plan is finalized. If you around, maybe we can hook up.

The more discuss this the more I think that Cape Cod deserve a dedicated trip to explore all cool places there.
