New England – Points of Interest

What you guys think in terms of traveling time frame, is MV area better during beginning of July (2nd week) or beginning of August (1st week)? Last year we went north during last week of June and it was mid 60s in Mystic. With rain for two days it felt like November. When we left our area the water was in 70s and air temp in 80s.

The weather is absolutely unpredictable on the Cape and Islands. Granted I have not lived there for 20+ years but I can remember whole summer seasons where it didn't get above 72* short of a day or two. Other years it was "Chamber of Commerce" weather.

Either of those weeks will work.... much better than the beginning of June.

Again it has been awhile since I've lived and boated there. The "locals" on here can give a better report.

Fall is gorgeous by the way.

Didn't Al Gore said that we have global warming? Are the Islands excluded?

Maybe it's just the Cape. This year here in NC gobal warming is working. Last year I about froze my buttocks off and saw more snow than I did on the Cape.

It does not matter......July and August are great months....The only thing to take into consideration when going to Vineyard are : 4th of july, shark tourney, edgartown regatta....it is best to make reservations to insure mooring/dockage

Thanks John. I'm always reserving in advance, whether it's a marina or a mooring.

You should probably take your HWH winterization kit with you...

I think I need another short term slip some place in norther CT area.

Anyone want to do a slip swap for a month?

You can probably get a good deal in Mystic for a mooring for a month - PM me if yo need more info - as for "slip swaps" most marinas dont allow this as they have the right to rent the slip to a transient when your boat is not in it

Is this what's left of it after your last new years party? Man, I didn't know you're so wild. ......please don't throw any parties in Charleston or they won't let us back there as well.

Don't write off Oak Bluffs. We had a great time there. Took a mooring. Plenty of restaurants, live music, shops and beach within walking distance. Also the Gingerbread Cottages are a must see. It is not the honky tonk place atmosphere of years ago. Very protected harbor too.

I agree Andyr, but I believe Alex enjoys peace and privacy.....Rafting occurs on the moorings and I know most people dont respect my boat like i do......

John is right. I don't think I would be very happy rafting with strangers in the new to me place. I prefer to take a mooring at Edgartown or Vineyard Haven and take the bus to see Oak Bluffs. Just because we won't dock there it doesn't mean we won't see the place. But I appreciate the input, Andyr.

+1...great place to visit but prefer to stay in Edgartown or Vineyard Haven.....

We never rafted up or were asked to a Oak Bluffs. There were a boats rafted but they were friends traveling together. Unless it is shark week, I doubt you would be forced to raft up. At least when rafted on a mooring, nobody is climbing over your boat. Rafted on a mooring is like being in a slip with a boat next to you. What I didn't care for is being rafted a Champs on Block where people do climb over your boat. The kids had a great time though.
