Does anyone know if there are rules or restrictions on the water? Can boats come and go? Is it packed tight with boats? What happens after show is over? Any suggestions for pick up/drop off location for friends? Thanks everyone.......

Bob

Went there in 1998 when we got our first boat..... Will Never Do It Again!!!!!!:wow: It's a Giant Dangerous "Cluster F@#$"! If you get there early you can usually find a good place to drop anchor! Then the fun starts, people running over your anchor line, people getting too close, people being people and drinking too much while Boating!!! When the show's over everyone wants to leave at the same time, problem is they have to go under some bridges to get out... WOW!! My suggestion is to see fireworks from North of the 36 Bridge!!

We go every year and if you plan on spending the night then it's a lot less stressful. Like Marshall said, it's a nightmare trying to leave after the fireworks are over. If you get there early (before 6) you'll have no problem finding a spot. I would not try to taxi people back and forth. Drop anchor, turn on your AC and spend the night. The only problem was that the Navesink can be swarming with Jelly Fish and they can clog your strainers. My buddy had to clean his twice last year. I was lucky and had no issues. We really enjoy the show, it's the best in N.J! Good luck and have fun. Brian

i am going with marinmax since i have never been to the navesink before and sounds like they have a good group going up there

i had the same reserves about rules and places to anchor to see the fireworks
best of luck have fun

Hi....we'll be with marinemax too. We're a blue 340 named Double Trouble. I'll be with my wife Terri and 8 year old twins. I'll be meeting you guys on your way in as we're heading up there a few days early. See you soon.

It hasn't had as many boats in the past couple of years, but it's still a pretty big crowd and a great show!!! The Amy Lee should be there too..It's only a 20 min ride for us.
P.S. Those of you who may need a pump out, call the "Royal Flush" pump out boat on Channel 9...He'll be there Saturday & Sunday..
Have fun!!!

Up there last year. Fireworks were great.....world class! We spent the night with 5 other boats rafted together. Typical overcrowed amatuer event after the fireworks were over. Everyone tyring to get out of dodge at the same time. No different then any other area that I've watched fireworks from on the boat. Jelly fish....Oy Vey!!!!! Had to clean my strainers two or three times and we didn't even run the genie/ac for the most the time....didin't even run it overnight as the weather last year was perfect. Forget about swimming off the platform. If the weather is Hot and Humid and you need the genie/ac, make sure you check your strainers every 5 or 6 six hours.

As an aside.....slight high-jack here.....but afer reading the smoking thread (I smoke cigars) I noticed that a lot of folks said NO WAY NO HOW NOT EVEN CLOSE TO ME.....you may want to check with MM to see if they have a policy. You may be rafted next to a boat with smokers.

I just got an email that MM has cancelled the trip up there so i will endup going up solo unless some boat want to cruise together out of point pleasant

What's up with MM, so many cancellations?

Having a slighly smaller boat, I tend to do the Toms River fire works.

Down South I have found that if you pull anchor within 5 minutes of the final pop, then yes, you will have the stupid amateur hour. Waiting 20 or 30 minutes, however, makes all the difference in the world. Sure, you still have lots of boats, but then you are dealing with a class of people who have enough patience to wait a few minutes - and won't be trying to run on plane with the stereo cranked and the spotlight blazing trying to beat you to the next marker.

You want to comment on spilling tomato sauce on my cockpit rugs !!??!!...Gary spills Beer, you spill tomato sauce......geezzeez.

We need a good jelly fish recipe.

Oh yeah---- we're not going up this year....you interested in hooking up on the river? I think those are are the plans. Do you have my cell #?

Any fireworks on the 3rd in the Barnegat area?

here is the email i got yes i was going with MM of Brick up there

We are very sorry to inform you that we have had to cancel the Red Bank Fireworks Overnight Event. We require a minimum number of boats in order to run these trips and unfortunately we did not meet the minimum for this event. I also left a message on your voicemail because I want to make sure this message was received. Again we are very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and we look forward to seeing you at another event this summer.

Thank you,

Good question. Thanks for reminding me.

The only thing I see in the North Barnegat area on the 3rd is Lavallette. We generally miss that.

Beachwood, as usual, on the 4th.
Brick, as usual, the Thursday before (WTF), which means YESTERDAY.
Seaside and Pt Pleasant are also on the 4th.

I am not that savvy on what happens further South. Anything worth taking a ride to see?

I would love to cruise up to Red Bank, but I am not inclined to overnight and doing the Manasquan inlet at night on July 4th is not on my bucket list.

Pardon my ignorance - what does one mean by "cleaning the strainers"? Do you mean the impellers, that bring in water to the motor? How would I go about cleaning the strainers on my 1988 Sundancer? Where are they located?

I'm planning on doing some boating in the Navesink, and clearly this is something I should know how to do.

How would I know if I have sucked in a jellyfish? Will the motor start overheating?

I believe you have an out-drive... If that is true, you don't have strainers... In-board engines have strainers..
