Well it is with a sad heart, but in these interesting times we are in I may have to sell MS Judy. What are you all seeing happening in your area. I'm thinking 40K would be a good asking price. Not sure if there are many 240SD out there with the options she has including shore power.

I don't know about the price but it sucks that it even needs to be considered. I wish you the best regardless of the decision.

Tonka-Thanks, yes it is interesting times we are in. I was hoping it would not comes to this. You know we have to do what we have to do.

When I read the thread title I figured you must have found the 290SS of your dreams. I'm sorry to hear you may have to use this option.

Real sorry to hear about that Chuck. I know you love that boat and have taken it everywhere.

As far as the $40K price goes, that is always "it depends". Do your research on what they are selling for in your area and base your asking price on what you find. Unfortunately if you really want to sell her, you may have to lower your asking price below all the others that are out there. And I don't think many of your options will mean that much (sorry to say) to someone looking for a 240SD.

Keep us posted.

Dave

Ouch, Chuck. I hope things turn around for you. I know how much Ms Judy means to you and your family.

As to value, the tough part right now for anyone is getting financing. My general feel is that the boat market has stopped its race to the bottom, and perhaps stabilized a little, but values don't seem to be recovering a lot.

Not sure why you even need shore power on a SD so I think most would not pay for that option. Just looking at Yachtworld, there are a couple 24 Dancers for less than 40k. But, as everyone states here, depending on your market, and what is selling there, will be the defining price you should ask. How quickly you want to sell will also be important.

30k to sell quick, 40k if you can wait for the right buyer that is looking for a well taken care of boat with the options.

Good luck and sorry to hear of your dilemma.

Chuck.....It really saddens me to hear that. I hope for all of us this economy gets righted soon.

I agree with Dave in that I don't think all the extras will help bring a higher price but they may tip the scales over another SD that doesn't have much on it. There has been an '05 SD for sale here locally in the paper for over a year. They started out at $39,900 w/lift and now are at $29,900. Scott

I know you are sad to be selling, but at least you are selling at the right time of the year. I’d do research on CL and BoatTrader to see what others are asking. Just know that they are probably getting 10% less than that. Also, when you list don’t forget about targeting other areas. You being in Northern Georgia, I’d make sure I put a CL in Knoxville, Columbia and Atlanta. All places with ample lakes. You have to be cleaver how you do that on CL. There are boat buyers out there, although they want deals they also know it’s spring.

Sorry to hear it as well, Chuck. I do hope you stick around to share your knowledge if it does go.

I know I was trying to buy a 260DA this past week. As stated above, the financing side (for those who have to deal with that) is poor. The wholesale numbers that most banks use are still bottomed out, while prices and more ralistic values have started to climb again. That makes it hard for someone to buy unless they have the cash to spend (which I don't). I hope you do well with it.

Thanks guys. Yes some of the options I have may not mater to other user. One of the main reasons I had the shore power installed is I wanted to boat year round with it in a slip and the Marinas around here would not let a bilge heater be used unless it was powered off a true shore power system. None of that extension cord stuff around here(Grin) Thanks for the heads up about CL I had not thought about the different areas. Mainly what I've been seeing listed has been in the 35-45K range including the trailer. Not sure about the actual sold price.

Dancer??????? I think you get an F for comprehension today. Or after re-reading it, you couldn't find any sundecks to compare, so you mentioned sundancers, or a slip of the keyboard, which we've all done from time to time.

Chuck, sorry to hear this, I know exactly how you are feeling right now. Hope your situation improves in the near future.

My point was that if a dancer is selling for less than his SD, then he should expect offers less than the dancer models. If I was in the market for his boat, went to Yachtworld, I would notice Dancers are listed for less, and offer him less since his is a SD. There are plenty of SD for sale as well, but just trying to think like I was buying his boat to offer him my thoughts. Thanks for playing.

Dancer??????? ......

Chuck, sorry to hear this, I know exactly how you are feeling right now. Hope your situation improves in the near future.

The joke used to be that I was turning MS Judy into a Dancer:lol::smt043:lol:

Thanks I hope it turns around soon too. These are interesting times we are in.

Sold boat numbers are $24,900 to 39,900. The majority number looks to be anywhere from 32,500 to 39,900. Quite a few sold for 34 and some change.

Take care Wayne

$39,999 if the boat has not been in salt water....$34,999 if it has...just joking Chuck. Good luck with the sale and getting back in that 290SS as soon as possible.

Too funny Wesley, Hey now that you are family man you need a good 240SD. Paige and the little lady would really like the head:thumbsup:

In response to Trit - I'm not sure that logic works though. People who want a sundeck are not the same folks who want a sundancer typically. Each boat carries a price, but you can't compare the two different types against each other. What you are suggesting is that because a 24 foot cabin cruiser is less than X dollars, a sundeck should be priced less because it isn't a sundancer. It doesn't work that way.

See, now you are putting logic into the equation. When I purchased my boats , used BTW, I would take ALL data for the size boat I was looking for and try to twist it to my advantage. I know the 2 boats aren't the same and pricing SHOULD be separate, but 24' mini cruiser vs a 24' bowrider, bowrider should be less. Just my opinion, you don't have to agree and you don't, that is cool.

Chuck, I hope you can find someone fast that will purchase you boat if that is what is needed. It is a hard thing to part with but I am sure things will turn around and you will be back in boating before you know it. Hang in there.
