More people out on the water just seem to be mad!

Speaking of lake Powell I was there about 40 years ago for vacation and that place was absolutely amazing rainbow bridge you could go anywhere it was awesome houseboat vacation for a week with three families unbelievable

I'm not going to blame the idiocracy on covid. I do blame it on what went on and was allowed during that time frame. We will never recover from that. The sense of empowerment that was taken away from then is more then can be over came by anyone. What people now think is acceptable is everything discussed here. Simply mind boggling.

Not only are people mad but they are stupid! I was leaving Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie last Sunday and a huge coal freighter was inbound. There was a bass boat sitting in the middle of the shipping channel fishing. I had my VHF on 16 and heard the Security call 30 minutes out from the ship. As he came in closer he had to sound his horn so the fishing boat would move. Then a small cruiser passed right in front of the ship, very closely, causing him to sound his horn once again. I just shook my head at the stupidity.

This is true. The sense of entitlement that came about as a result of the common Covid is amazing in this country.

I saw this all the time when I boated on the James River, which is used often for barge traffic. I lost track how many times a bass boater cut me off, gave me the finger, yelled at me, zipped by me recklessly at 70mph, etc. All to get a, fish.

I saw a guy with a small CC at one of our stops up the ICW yelling at the dock hand over the fuel prices. I gave him $20 just for having to tolerate the jackwagon.

On the other hand, at our stop in Bellhaven there was an 80’ Horizon fueling. Owner/captain was happy as can be, sipping margaritas while calling out the fuel quantity to the crew. He took on 2400 gallons.

I find the bigger the boat the happier they are. Maybe money can’t buy hapiness, but it can buy a big ass boat.

Americans have the freedoms that everyone else in the world longs for. Our govt. attack on these freedoms due to covid has turned everyone into lunatics. The attitude is that I'm going to do as I please now. Driving faster like morons to get somewhere in record time, abusing the rights of others because I'm entitled now, and having no respect for anyone else is the national goal.

America is upside down now. It's not just boats and speeding cars. Our govt. has gone berserk. Both parties are trying to put the other side in jail. I am so glad that my ancestors (aliens that came legally and immediately became citizens) are no longer with us because they now would have a different idea about the american dream.

Personally, I don't see any more idiots on the water now than I did before Covid.

Pontoons overloaded with fat women going 1 mph in the canal is a daily occurrence and a polite toot of the horn always results in an angry exchange.

I almost never go out on the weekends anymore. Yesterday was beautiful and we saw maybe 6 boats all day.

My boat weighs 20,000 lbs. I'll do my best to avoid a collision but if you persist, best of luck to you.

Yep, I try to stay calm, we moved the boat to the most outboard slip last year, views are great. However comma we have the Carefree Boat Club at our marina and most have no idea or business operating a boat. No respect for a “No Wake” marker or reading the warning label on the maximum # of occupants for a 24’ toon (don’t get me started on the weight). I do enjoy when the Huntersville/Cornelius PD young folks tie up right on the outside of my slip. Usually a young man and young lady, they hangout and we shoot the breeze, I provide water and crackers. They show up everyday about the same time and it cracks me up. Most boaters immediately learn how to read and know what a wake is when the PD is there, then in comes a CFBC toon loaded down with folks putting out a sizable wake, they (PD ) look at me and say “what do you think?” I say “looks like a wake to me but it’s up to you if you want to engage” They always do, lights to full, siren at max. Fun to watch as I sip my Makers Mark. Sometimes things do go your way. Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth.

So Thursday like clockwork Cornelius Water PD tie up on the outside of my dock and we start talking. I tell them I appreciate their presence. I asked if people’s attitudes have changed on the lake. Response was absolutely, half the people they stop want to argue about why they were stopped. Just then a PT boat goes out, overloaded and doing about 10, big wake, they are still easily 300yards inside the no wake zone. Young men take off lights and siren when they get to the boat I can hear the women on the boat giving the PD crap, loved it when I saw the ticket book come out. PD came back to the dock and I just shook my head and said really? They replied back “it’s the norm”

I'm dropping down to one engine and low speed ahead next time you get behind me in the canal

If you want see anger try boating in New Jersey. Tatooed meatheads in go fasts everywhere with a nice mix of "Mac daddy" sport fisher's. The absolute pinnacle of anger occurs on weekends when the Manasquan River railroad bridge goes up for boat passage....OMG

I don’t think people are “mad” as much as it is the mindset “it’s all about me” ….. screw the other guy, I just want to have fun, or as Jerry Seinfeld commented once….”I got it, I got it” ….. I’m going slow, my wake isn’t that big, what’s the problem?
