I don't get it, how in the world do you show up for a day on the water mad? If this is not your happy place, then your just an un-happy person. Case in point, two situations I found myself in over the last month -- now keep in mind, I spend at least one day a week out on the water and rarely have any issues with anyone.

1. I anchor in one of my favorite spots a couple of weeks ago - closest boat is @200 yards to STB. A pontoon shows up and anchors about 150ft in front of me - there was plenty of other room, but ok. Problem is, two other boats show up and raft to the pontoon. Then the whole mess starts dragging and they are now about 25ft from me - and on the move. Getting to close for comfort, I decide to move, but they are on top of my anchor - I am pretty much right on them by the time I get my anchor up - guy looks at me and asks why I put my anchor there - in a you idiot tone!

2. This past weekend we are putting along in a pretty big cove - mile+ long, 1/2mile wide. we are the only boat in there at this point. Then, I hear a boat to STB coming at an angle from behind and it is clear he is going to cross in front of me - it's a wake boat with a wakeboarder behind. This cove is huge, plenty of room for both of us and then some. He is overtaking me so I am the stand-on (clearly not a crossing situation), but if I don't do something he is going to come very close or worse, so I slow down and turn slightly to port. As he passes maybe 25ft throwing a monster wake, he starts yelling about he has the right of way since he is pulling a skier. At this point I feel things are pretty dangerous him being that close with the wakeboarder so I just shook my head and waved him off. This made him even madder as he continues yelling at me and not paying any attention to his kid who I could run over had I not done something. He then proceeds out through a cut to the main channel - he is pretty far away at this point, but I can still see him pressing is "right of way" status with other boats in the main channel. Now at this point he is in a crossing situation and technically is the stand on vessel. But crossing the main channel on a Saturday on LKN can be like trying to cross I-95 in some places. And to do all that while pulling your kid wakeboarding - who eventually fell out in the middle of everything - just damn!

** I get this is a recreation lake and many / most don't have any real knowledge of boat rules, navigation etc. You can't rely on other boats to understand these things on a lake like this - the general approach (for me at least) is just stay out people's way - no need to press the rules and get too worked up - lake most others I just want to enjoy a day on the water. However, I have to say I have had more close calls like this this summer than any of the previous 20+ years I have been boating. I even went and reviewed the "Rules of the Road" to make sure wake boats had not gotten a special classification I didn't know about.

Bill, leaving us hanging! :p

So many self centered people think that they are always right. The entitlement and selfishness is rampant. Part of it is the drive of society and social media. Most of it is lacking morals and respect for God.

I can tell you that humanity has beaten the patience right out of me over the last few years. Seems like everywhere I go there’s some idiot doing something stupid and I get tired of it.

Generally, it’s the pontoon boats that really pissme off. They seem to be the dumbest of the bunch on the water. I have had two of those drooling fuc*wits hit my boat at the dock over the years.

One on my brand new, second trip out 2015 Sea Hunt that cost about $1000 to fix. One ran into my old Wellcraft V20

Sorry - I did not realize it created the post before I had finished!
Just messing with you brother.
You going out tomorrow or do you still work? Weather looks beauty. Port City Club is 2 minutes away from me by boat. All the other places are a bit of a ride, about an hour because I’m at the most southern end of LN and have to go out and around to get anywhere. Not complaining, just saying.

Still a working schlep, at least for a few more years! We need to meet up sometime - some of our best boating weather coming up next 6 weeks or so. We were visiting some friends at PYC Saturday and anchored nearby.

It is pretty much the same on Lake Lanier. The wakeboard boats here are the worst. Those things throw an incredible wake as they are supposed to I guess. Having sold the 420DA and settling into a 22.5' bay boat, I have come to hating to see them coming.

Like you though, I have adopted the mind set of just letting the others do what they want and staying clear of them.

It has gotten to the point where rules of the road mean absolutely nothing anymore and you need to just assume the other person has no clue and I always take the evasive action. Anchoring out has gotten to be a nightmare at times and I find the marina is the best place to to go.

This was this past weekend going to Annapolis just outside of the main channel, this is only the vessels with AIS, imagine how bad it actually was. It was windy on Saturday and every sailboat in existence was out tooling around and then on top of that a regatta was also going on right through the main channel. I was up/down left/right stop/go for 20min.

When we got to the slip and my friends who had gotten there first met me at my assigned slip with an extra drink in hand and past it right over to me. That Orange Crush never tasted so good!

Yep, I try to stay calm, we moved the boat to the most outboard slip last year, views are great. However comma we have the Carefree Boat Club at our marina and most have no idea or business operating a boat. No respect for a “No Wake” marker or reading the warning label on the maximum # of occupants for a 24’ toon (don’t get me started on the weight). I do enjoy when the Huntersville/Cornelius PD young folks tie up right on the outside of my slip. Usually a young man and young lady, they hangout and we shoot the breeze, I provide water and crackers. They show up everyday about the same time and it cracks me up. Most boaters immediately learn how to read and know what a wake is when the PD is there, then in comes a CFBC toon loaded down with folks putting out a sizable wake, they (PD ) look at me and say “what do you think?” I say “looks like a wake to me but it’s up to you if you want to engage” They always do, lights to full, siren at max. Fun to watch as I sip my Makers Mark. Sometimes things do go your way. Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth.

Off topic, but what cartography are you running?

Yep I’m thinking 2-3 more weeks and the leaves will start to change, always a good boat ride. PYC is a nice place they don’t offer reciprocity though even though Safe Harbor bought them, trying to keep the rifraf out I guess. ;). Weekends will start to be less busy as the weather cools.

We are this <> close to never going out on weekends again ever. Wife retiring this winter and come next summer we will never go out on weekends. I absolutely cannot deal with jetskis, cops, newbies, sailors, speed zones, rude people all of it much longer. Monday thru Thursday i am often the only boat/zodiac out there.

Yep, that’s why I like my 10,000lb fat bottom girl at 8-10knts. Staying as far right as possible, if you’re dumb enough to hit me you get what you get.

8-10knts, my kinda boating. I would much rather cruise at that speed than busting on plane anymore. At my age, aint in no hurry to get anywhere. The boat and me are both old enough that neither in a hurry.
Finally after 3 years, this boat made thru a season with no repairs. I knew when i bought a 91 it needed some restoration, but it was solid, had a good base to start with. Couple setbacks and surprises, but she running amazing and i think i have her nailed down and looking forward to many years of water travel.
