Missing/Stolen Boat.... BOC Member rustyrake

Some may remember when I broke my toe pushing Old Skool off a stump a couple seasons ago. I ran her 1/3 the way up the hull on a 6 inch stump. The admiral and first mate had to stand at the back of the boat to offset the boat weight so I could push her off. Broke my toe when the rock embedded in the sand didn't give way under my middle toe.

The gel coat was scuffed but no gel coat chips and no hull damage. Sure am glad she is an old school hull.
BTW the Sea Ray hull looks thicker in the center (white area between the sandwich cores) than the Bayliner. May be the angle of the shot but it looks that way to me.

Sorry for the thread highjack but seemed applicable.

That isn't a cored hull Bill
That is the actual glass thickness... in BOTH pics

This thread isnt going to ( i have to ask and it is fall)beat out the pig thread is it.

Thanks for the correction Jim. I think the coloration of the lamination threw me off. At any rate, are they the same thickness or not?

No they are not. The difference was more obvious in person than in these pictures.

The way these boats(BL&SR) are used I'm wondering what difference it makes.
I restore SRs 50+ years old and the hulls are great
wonder when bayliners turn 50 .. if they will fare so well.

The 42 SR next to me has had two repairs to the hull from ramming docks. 89 model. Musta been going real fast.

I think the point was missed. I‘ll refer to the many CSR threads and polls…How much fuel have you burned? How many hrs have you put on? How far do you usually go? What do you do/where do you go when you go out? What’s your longest run? How many boats have you owned/how long have you kept them?

Based on the answers the vast majority are out in only the bestest of weather as they go around the corner to the nearest island/sandbar/restaurant, etc. That distance may vary but isn’t usually far. The number of BL out there(and they ain’t all new) shows they’re capable enough(hulls included) for how their owners use them. I do run sometimes with a couple BL about the same size. While they’re the first to feel the rough water, I think it’s those flatter hulls, there is no question of reliability. Some of the nightmarish trips those guys have had because they want to fish Stannard Rock :smt101are almost unbelievable, ain’t none of ‘em busted open like a dropped egg yet.

As far as SeaRays always looking better, style wise heck ya, but other wise to me the typical old boat, regardless of brand, shows it‘s age. I don’t necessarily find anything wrong with that. Ya, ya, there are exceptions. If you’re already brand partial I suppose it could be easy to feel yours always looks better.

My Dad rammed the pier at Beaver Island when the engine quit while docking and punched a hole in the bow.

Is this proof positive of BL hull inferiority? Or are you razzing your Dad? I don’t care what boat you’re driving, if you’re going to be ramming it into stuff you’re likely to make holes. Ask boltman, he put a 14k hole in his ’thick/better’ SR hull.

I think this thread has lost its intent, :smt021

I'm gonna ask a Mod to delete this.

So wait. You are going to ask the thread be deleted because YOU don't like where it went? Maybe you should remove the freedom banner from your sig then. It's really inappropriate.

2 friends of mine own Vikings one is a 72 foot the other is a 62 foot and they really slam Sea Rays along with all the other lower quality boats. They would not consider leaving the harbor in any such inferior boats in bad weather. They talk about thin sides of Sea Ray boats. So goes to show no matter what boat one owns there is always someone out there that feels theirs is better.

So do we bring in Crown, Cobalt, Donzi, Fountain, ect....? Lets not. It is true that we strayed from your original post Wayne but few could say that anyone who has visited either site doesn't know about Rusty's plight.

Thanks for posting it.

What was this thread about again? Did someone's BL sink?
