Mid-90's 270 Sundancer Thread

I had a similar problem and after pulling the pump from the sump box found that the pump strainer needed to be cleaned. Also worth noting that the pump seems a little under rated for the job, will probably upgrade it in the spring.

On another note.... I joined this thread after I had purchased my 97 270 but before it was delivered. Sadly 3 hrs in, the engine blew- NOT FUN. After a lot of $$ I had a re-manned 496 installed. 130 engine hrs later, we called it a great season, got out of the water the Sat. before Sandy and was tucked away in the high end of the yard for the storm.

Howdy gang, I just purchased a 2000 Searay 270 Sundancer and self referred to this thread for "Noob" questions.

The trash can from under the cabin stair was missing. Does anyone know the dimensions of the factory trash can so I can go pick one up.

I believe the rear facing Starboard seat is supposed to house a cooler. This was also missing. Does anyone know the dimensions for the cooler so I can pick one of those up.

I would love to hear if anyone has a similar boat and would like to pass on some sage like advice before I hit the water here in a month or so on general maintenance/operation of this particular boat. She has the 7.4 MPI single engine and the Kohler 5kw Genset. Overall the boat was fairly clean, but I think my initial foray is going to be to clean out the interior and get some basic maintenance knocked out on the Genset, Engine and Outdrive so I can make a service baseline.

Throttle question and leak update: First the leak: Noticed water on the carpet outside the head and also under the trash can where the shower/condensate pump is located. Found the leak was the cold water supply line in the head sink. A tip-off was the water tank pump would occasionally run with no spigot being open.
Throttle question: When decelerating from a significantly high throttle position (say 1/2 to WOT), the throttle seems to go to idle unless I ease off very slowly. This is not a bad practice in most situations, but it always surprises anyone who is at the helm (even me) at least the first time they experience it. I cannot pull the throttle back as little as 1/2" without this happening, and have to really ease it back for normal decel. The throttle seems snug without any undue play or slop. Any ideas appreciated.

Has anyone mounted a sub in their cockpit area?I have two in boxes under aft bench I'd like to get rid of.Thanks

I too would like to know where others have mounted their subs and/or additional cockpit speakers.(Pictures would be GREAT!) The factory speakers face rearward and I find myself cranking the volume up above the admirals liking just to hear the music while those in the back can't hear each other speak.

Im with you viffer! I crank mine also to the point of no return:).Although it sounds great whoever is sitting over subs get a whole other ride.I have seen speakers mounted by throttle and cabin door. Those subs are the question.I have seen a pic of our model boats with a sub mounted just to the rear of fresh water access door. My boat is still in storage now. I can't get to it to measure that spot now .If a 10" will fit there that's where I'm thinking

I have a '97 270 that's presently in storage...so I can't get to it to measure. Gonna order a name decal for the transom, but not sure what space I have to work with.
Could anyone suggest what size of letters/decal I might be able to use?

thanks!

(can't wait for spring)

Hi all, just bought a 95 270 and cant wait to get out on it. I want to upgrade my lighting to LED, how many courtesy lights are already prewired on these boats? An

Welcome Aboard!

Are you asking cabin or cockpit?

This web site will give you the lettering that fits the measurements.

What area do you want measured?

There is the entire transom, the door on the storage area, the height between the fold and the latch or the whole door?

Here is what I did:

your transom sure looks different from mine....
I think I want to apply just below the stern light; pretty much centered in the space

We all are happy to help, but this is the link to your model 2000, 270.

Ron, you have a different style transom than we.

Mine sits on a 3/8 inch piece of plywood. The plywood is larger than the microwave and slides into the holding area with the microwave on top of it. The 'legs' of the microwave are recessed into cutouts in the plywood. There are 4 screws underneath which screw into the plywood to keep it in place. Remove the screws and slide out the plywood and microwave at the same time.

I added a shelf under the sink which increased my galley storage. Simple and fairly easy to do. I use the space above the power panel in front of the window for temporary storage for chips, crackers and other light stuff. I put of a piece of cargo net from one of the car parts stores in front of it to keep the stuff from falling out. It has an elastic band on top so you can pull it down, put stuff up there and it springs back and holds light stuff up there.
