Mid-90's 270 Sundancer Thread

thanks for the advice.
Another question from a newbie...The aft cockpit bench has fold-down legs. Why?

In my boat it’s so you can open the engine hatch. I pull the legs out of the support holes and the front side of the bench drops to the floor allowing me to open the engine hatch.

Deeman, Do you have this set-up that folds into the stern wall?

I have this:

...and this when out:

My legs fold for storage, and not on the boat.

yeah, and the legs fold, but I'm not really sure why. Seems like something will break is you fold the legs and drop front of the seat down.
I won't get to experiment until the weekend, as I am in OH and my boat is in KY.

The base is made to hook into a track that extends across the inner transom wall, that is shown in the photo below. The pins hold it in the track. I have folded the portside leg to get the center deck panel without removing the seat and did not damage anything. MM

We just bought a 96 270, our first boat! She's cleaning up nicely and we're moving slowly along the steep part of the learning curve while enjoying the boat. We plan to use it until the latest possible weekend before winterizing, and then tackle some of the improvements we want to make before spring. I've already seen some of the typical problems and been able to address them from the wealth of information posted here.

Anyone know how to remove the front V beth seat back panels on a 1996 270 sundancer, I need to re-fix and reseal one of the bow rail stanchions

In between the folds there are 2 screws on forward and one aft. Unfold the middle fold and with a little searching you will find them.

I have a problem and need help. I have seen earlier discussions about this but cannot locate the threads.

I have water under my waste basket located under the step.

There seems to be no drain and there is some equipment laying in the water. NONE of this looks good to me and I am upset because I assume I have a "leak" (to state the obvious) somewhere in the front of the boat, but HOW do I locate the leak?

Tomorrow I will take a bucket and towels and sop up the water, but the fact is that this water will cause mold to grow in the below deck cabin and I need to find the source and fix it, but as I look around the cabin there is NO visible sign of water leaking.

Moreover, why does the water drain into this spot?

Is there no overflow into the bilge?

This has all the feel of a monster job with no easy answer.

I have been getting water in the same spot. I resealed all my windows and hatches and sprayed down the boat for hours and hours on end. Sprayed every stanchion, running light, horn, window antenna , piece of glass, cabin door, under rub rail were the join the two hulls together at the factory, wiper motor any place water can possibly come in I even filled my anchor locker completely and found absolutly nothing. I dyied my water supply red and run the faucets and again nothing. I can't find the leak for the life of me. It only happens with a realy really heavy rain with wind hitting the starboadd side. Next season I will remove everything that has caulking and recaulk (everything I listed above) best of luck to you and please please if you find it pm me with your findings. And no there is no drain for that water. Like you said good old towel and bucket.

I want to put a permanent bypass valve on the hot water heater. Does anyone know what type of material was used for the plumbing? It is either PBC or PVC. Anyone know, I am having a difficult time fuiguring this out.

Thanks

WOW! This is really worse than I thought. In my head what I see happening could take a year to find, and that ASSUMES I only have ONE leak! It seems the best way to attack this is by process of elimination. By that I mean by using various ways to protect an area from water, such as a small plastic sheet, cover an area well, then just wait to see if the leak continues. If it does, move on to the next item. I am NOT sure if a garden hose will speed up the process, but it might.

This is REALLY not going to be fun.

On wet area I did find was under the forward v cushion on vberth. But the floor wasn't wet and that's the onlyway for water to get to that area. Everything forward of under the garbage can drain s into that area. Good luck and again if you find it please inform me

I need a copy of the Quicksilver Classic 3000 throttle controller owners manual. Merc wants $27 for a printed copy not available by online download.

I was hoping to find an area in the SR that would have PDF files of manuals but no such luck.

Can anyone scan me a copy on a PDF?

Thanks!

Did you find your problem?

My boat (1995) has a sump in that spot. This is the shower sump. I am certain that you have considered this, but is it possible that the sump box has a leak / crack? Also you may want to look at the hoses and their connections, perhaps something cracked?

It looks like the shower drain runs into the plastic box sitting in this trash well. Fact is I have not used the shower yet, so I know it is not coming from there.

There are two stanchions on the port bow rail that I believe are leaking into the boat on the port bow area. However, that water is running into the wall between the dinette table and the front left couch cushion and has soaked the bottom wood. Does not appear to be running into the waste basket well area.

Instead of doing the "caulking" around the base I want to pull both stanchions and reseal them properly. Do I just "unscrew them" and lift the stanchions off and properly re-caulk them? I cannot believe it will be THAT simple....

As for the trash can well, after every rain there is enough water running into the waste basket well area to soak a shop towel.

FINALLY, I have a NEW leak in the worst place possible (of course). It is coming into the rear below deck sleeping area on the starboard side. In essence in the little space I need to crawl into on all fours with no room to turn around and just the side wall. So now I need to take out that side wall. I see there are screws along the bottom but I just know that this is not going to be THAT easy as well. So how do I take out that starboard wall so I can work a flashlight into the side to locate this leak?

I am thinking that this leak may be coming from the speaker under the throttle as there is a "hole" there and some direct drainage possible to below into the sleeping area?

Even though the travel canvass is covering the boat, but I am betting it needs new waterproofing.

After overnight outings when we got back to the marina, I used to notice water collecting under the trash can as well. Had to use a towel to soak it up. Thought it was the sump pump box or hose leaking, but since we did not use the shower, I ruled the shower out. (Plus, the water tasted salty and not soapy).

We use the A/C quite a bit in the summer, so I thought the drain from the A/C unit to the sump pump was leaking. Replaced the hose and still had a problem.

Next time we were out and the A/C running, I took up the seat covering the A/C to look at it running hoping to see water leaking from somewhere. What I found was the hose leading from the A/C to the exit drain through the hull was leaking. Took it apart, put plumber's tape on the threads and tightened it up. No leak since.
