Mid-90's 270 Sundancer Thread

First time poster, long time 270 DA owner. Ours is a 1995, purchased lightly used in 1998.

Just got it out of the shop after routine annual maintenance and found one of the portlight windows leaking; also the stainless steel screen needs to be replaced on this same window. Does anyone know definitively who made these windows? Thanks in advance!

Thanks MM, that is much appreciated. I will call them tomorrow.

Quick update - Bowmar used the Sea Ray part number I found in the 1995 270DA parts catalog (729319) and their screen / gasket kit part number is (like many others have found) P100-04-RETRO.

$25 each plus shipping. We'll see how hard they are to install.

Hello,

Newbie to the site, have already learned quite a bit. We have a 1996 270 Sundancer with 454 and BII that we keep in Bethel Island California and use primarily on h Sacramento Delta.
I have been reading a lot about the waste system and our boat has a vaccu flush but I have not bee able to locate a Waste Filter. Can somebody tell me where this is us usually located on a 1996 270?

I am changing out the 1"head to tank hose and in the back berth locker on starboard side the 1" hose connects into a 1.75 hose about 2' from head. My guess is this might be where the filter should be, but it was removed prior to our purchasing the boat, just a guess?

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays

Hello from Wisconsin. I am fairly new to this site. I got a 1997 270 Sundancer with a 7.4l and Blll . We had a great time on it last summer and looking forward to getting back out on it. Plan on adding a swim platform this spring. From what I have been reading that is one of the best things you can do to the boat. Thank you MM for the link to this forum, there is a lot of good info here.

Keep Warm,
Jim

It should be in your starboard side rear hatch, usually tucked up above the door.

Hello,
Just join the forum yesterday. Last week I picked up my 97 Sundancer 270
With help from MonacoMike, I found this thread so I can ask few questions:

I am overhauling the sound system.
The components I have purchased are :
2x Alpine PDX-V9 5 channel amps
8x Polk MM651UM speakers
2x Polk MM1040UM subs - might return those and get something different

Obviously I need to situate all the speakers, I have some ideas(kinda), but was wondering what other people have done so far.
Any pictures would be a huge help!
I know some guys on here have similar setups, some probably even better. Just looking for few ideas.

I am not a novice to stereo install, this is a 4th boat I will be "loudening".

Thank you!

Thanks for the information MM, and I apologize for the delay in responding. To clarify when you say "Starboard Side Rear Hatch" are you referring the SB hatch in the rear sleeping area? Or SB Engine Hatch? Or SB hatch which stores the Water Hose (opposite of Shore Power)?

Thanks again for the assistance much appreciated.

On a separate subject, has anyone changed the stock Wind Shield Wiper Motors Out (WWF 12C1-520 10 24 95 12)? I have read some posts about other Sea Ray owners using the AMEquipment Motors (212-2202) but they were larger Boats. I have placed a couple calls into AM but still waiting for a return call. Thought I would check in here before calling them again.

Duckmnn,

Did you ever get a response on your steering issue (amount of play)?

I was curious as I have approximately 3" of play in my wheel at the helm of my 1996 SR 270 Sundancer and would be very interested to know what you found and resolution? I have read some other technical posts on the subject (not Sea Ray) and gimbal mounts comes up quite a bit, which not only appears to be a pain but very costly.

Thanks in advance

I had same steering issue. I replaced steering shaft and arm. Even though that wasnt problem . Seal was leaking and upgraded to stainless pin. Changed steering cable . Still play. I inlarged trim tabs for dropping bow . That fixed it. I leave tabs down just a little and it's like auto pilot.I know tabs have nothing to do with the steering , but at no wake they are great.

image.jpg my sub install. Location worked out great. Still have 90% locker for storage. I used to keep stern anchor in there but moved .

I've bought 2 more 6.5 jl and another amp myself. I know I'm going to mount 1 at helm under gear shifter. Just not sure about other . I need that one to keep music at bay while under way:) I tend to run boat standing most time. Just can't hear as well without cranking rear speakers up. Interrupts the boss's visiting to and from.I know it might be a little unbalanced, but thought about throwing it in cabin some where?Id like some ideas on that any body have any.I would mount under port lounger, but would be in access to aft berth

Thank you for the pics!
How does it sound without the enclosure?
I know those JLs have quite a punch!

How did you enlarge your trim tabs? I have always thought the trims were not doing a good enought job. Either they were too small or didn't move down enough. Thanks.

I put 30 inch trim tabs on and love them. I bought the tabs from a Benett dealer after talking to a rep about what I waned to do. I particulaly was looking for a lower bow and less plowing while running at 6-10 knots. I did not get a new system, rather I relocated the cylinder in the transom and intalled the new tabs.

It is a 10" sub.I enlarged my tabs to 12"x20" with 2" drop fins.Originally they were 12"x11" with no drop fins.I bought same gauge SS from metal shop. Had them bend the drop fins. 85$ total in tabs. After a few test I had friend weld them to existing tabs.I picked up 6mph and 600rpm.I never could get above 4000 rpm at wot.I can not believe the difference they made.I cant wait full tank of fuel and 6 adults. The test was with 2 aadults and 1/2 tank .If you go on Bennets site they give recommended size charts for tabs.I can't figure why Sea Ray under tabs boats.
