Login Problems

Most of the time I just connect to the site and find myself logged in. Sometimes I do not get logged in, Then I log in and it works for a while again. I thought the cookie was expiring after some period. I see I have 3 cookies, as it seems to create a new one when I have to sign in. Looks like it could be every 3 months.

I looked back over these messages and saw that someone posted they could just hit the login button - which is convenient if you don't remember your login. So I tried it and it worked. That is really strange because it defeats part of the purpose of a login anyway. But that also gives us a clue to the problem. It means the cookie is stored and ready to be used, but the bulletin board is not using it. The user just connects to the site. After that it's up to the board program to do whatever goes on behind the scenes. That's not a browser issue. So a check with phpBB may find the answer to what is going wrong.

It's great to have users who will fight through this to get on, but many, especially those who can not easily put their hands on their login info will just give up and move on -perhaps permanently. So, it's important to get fixed.

If you know how to fix it I'll gladly let you. Everything seems to be working in general right now so I don't want to screw anything up. Not sure if you have ever tried to hire somebody to fix a problem like this but its a crap shoot at best, and if they don't fix it they can disappear as fast as they arrived. i am thinking about upgrading to vbulletin anyway, but am waiting for their version of the "Virtual Marina" software to be made available.

stranders,

Try this next time you come to the site. Do not put anything in the username or password just hit log in (those screens will be blank). It should log you in.

If you care to have a census, I always have to log in when visiting the site. The automatic log in feature has never worked for me.

Same here, I actually get a Javascript error on the home page then when I click login I get another javascript error but once I logon it is fine. But it ever remebers me no mater how may times I tell it to.

Here is another suggestion...............use this URL http://www.byowneryachts.com/forums/phpBB2/search.php?search_id=latest&hours=24 and you won't have to log in (as long as you haven't logged out on your last visit).

It will give you the active topics for the last 24 hours. If that's not what you want, then just go to any other part of the CSR web site from there.

Yes that works it automatically logs me in. The only thing is I like to go to newest since I last visited.

So I think http://www.byowneryachts.com/forums/phpBB2/search.php?search_id=newposts will do that for me.
