Guys

You want to look at the tide tables for the Moriches USCG Station, not the inlet, though you can just add roughly 40 minutes to the inlet schedule to get the USCG schedule. It looks like a full moon tide at +3' which is good. Moriches is about 45 minutes from the Patchogue River so if I went Friday morning I'd probably leave my slip no later than 0600 - 0615. That would put you in Montauk in time for a late breakfast.

Brian,

Are there any interesting spots in the Shinnecock Bay area? I'm debating a stop over Westhampton vs. something I haven't visited yet and closer to the Shinnecock inlet.

Alex

There are no marinas between Westhampton and Shinnecock. There are marinas south of the locks that accept transients but nothing other than a slip at any of them. There's a Suffolk County Marina immediately north of the locks at Shinnecock that has a restaurant and a live band on Friday nights. The only problem is I think you need to be a County resident to make a reservation. The next interesting port east of that is Sag Harbor, which is home to some Mega-yachts. There are transient moorings and slips available in Sag.

Alex,
I know you bridge guys have to stick together!! LOL:lol:

Seriously, that is good advice. We all dock close by but, The meeting up factor could be an issue. I will obviously sleep on the boat thursday night so I can run early Friday!!

Hey BTW, it's supposed to hit almost 60 degrees here this Friday!! WooHoo!!:wow: Now, if my family is done battling this stomach virus by then , maybe we can take advantage of the weather!!

We have the same plans. Prep the boat, sleep at the marina and shove off at sunrise.

Good point with the time adjustment. Our departure will be right there with you. I may be picking the PM tide for the leg home (landing just before it gets dark). I'm figuring with the moon, my draft can make it across roughly an hour before high tide.

Thanks for the tip, Brian. It looks like my only choices either north of the locks or west of the Shinnecock Bay. I have the Sag on my list of ports this time. Maybe I'll just have to go to Westhampton if nothing better will come up on the horizon. If I recall, the Shinnecock tides should be not too bad toward the end of my travelling week (I don't have the tides table in front of me right now). So, maybe this will work out just fine.

Alex, I was just wondering if it would be worth it for folks like you coming from NJ to transit past manhattan and into Long Island sound. I know there is more distance involved but apart from having the opporunityto go past NYC you would have a much larger selection of marinas to spend the night. I am not familiar with sea conditions south of LI in August but it should be more favorable in the sound.

I have to bring my new to me Searay home from Wildwood in the spring and considered cutting across to south side of LI, but decided I couldn't pass up the chance to see NYC from the water.

Nick,

It's a good idea to go via the LI Sound and pass by the NYC, but this decision is based on individual plans. We did this trip while delivering our friend's sailboat and it was awesome. Here's the link to my thread on it (read post #46).

Huntington LI to Tomes River NJ - Share Your Local Knowledge

I've seen NYC by water on several occasions and we'll have many more NYC trips. So, for getting from NJ to South Shores of LI it's not worth it for me to go around. I actually thinking to have dedicated trip just for North Shore of LI someday, which would include some stops in CT.

As for you delivery in the spring, if you're not very comfortable staying outside I would suggest taking outside route from Wildwood to Absecon Inlet (AC) to take a break and see how the sea conditions are. If it gets rough you can take ICW from AC all the way to Point Pleasant and jump out of the Manasquan Inlet. However, you'll have to do some homework and studdy the charts are there are some troubled spots by LEI (Beach Haven) if I recall buoy #116. Otherwise, jump out of AI and another good option is Barnegat Inlet leading you to ICW. Obviously, you'll loose time by taking ICW, but it'll be scenic and not sucha borring route. But, if your goal is just to get from point A to point B, then I would stick with the ocean as much as possible as it'll be the fastest route. There're just too many options on how to do your delivery.

Guys,

I just wanted to let everyone know that those 14 boats from "List of Participants" are now officially registered with MYC. Please call the dockmaster and provide your credit card info to complete your reservation. If anyone else wishes to be added to the participants list, please don't hesitate to contact me or the dockmaster directly.

Dockmaster: John Murray
Phone: 631-668-3100

I have posted this info on the first page as well.

Alex, thanks for the links. Great info! I plan on dropping Sea Ray Mark a line. My boat is quietly under shrink wrap at Schooner Island. If he is still there maybe he and I can meet during spring commissioning.

Hey guys, just got back from Dominican republic and trying to catch up on the thread, I thought we where rafting up in shelter island on Fri? seems like some might pass ? I would like to run on the ocean its a straight deep run for me if anyone wants to join in, I will drop in at Shinnecock, P.S Alex. we stayed at Oakland's just in side the inlet, gas dock, transient slips restaraunt ,beach, etc, they never asked for residency if thats the same place Brians talking about. we had a great time there live band, seafood.showers etc, and not too far from shelter. Hey Todd hope everyones over the virus? two of us had it on vacation this week:smt089. I'm working on the boat the last two weeks and pretty excited about this trip..

Hey Joe,
Welcome back!! I did Punta Kana once. It was the most beautiful beach I ever vacationed at. Unfortunately my wife & I both got some intestinal distress there from what we think was eating the salad. We NEVER drank the water. Sorry to here you experienced a similar situation on your trip. But, it is a beautiful place!

The whole houshold got to experience the stomach virus this week spanning over 5 days!! We are now dealing with the flu here in the Schafer Infirmary. My oldest had a 103 fever last sunday. Went to the pediatrician monday and wa stold it was not strep and probably just a "cold". Really?? With a 103 fever?
Well he missed the whole week of school and my daughter came down with a fever yesterday. Someone else @ the ped's office diagnosed here immediately with the flu and put all of us on Tamaflu! The kids all got flu shots but, even my nieces and nephews have the flu and they got the shots too!!!

Oh well, enough belly aching :)grin:)! I am also really looking forward to this trip. So I guess you'll jump out at Moriches Inlet? Or are you heading west to FI inlet?

Hey todd, thats sounds terrible over there at your house I hope everyone makes a speedy recovery!!! I actually have to head east to F I Inlet a bit, the boat is in Lindenhurst so thats the closest inlet, who ever wants to run on the outside could just jump on at theyre respectful inlet I guess. I really enjoyed the ride last year to westhampton the wife to the wheel for most of the trip and i relaxed we set the radar for three miles and kept the land on the radar.no "bottom" to worry about I had already found that on memorial day if you recall :smt089 well, hope you all feel better soon .

Hey guys,

Looks like we've got a good taste of summer last Friday and hopefully this week's cold front would be the last wave of the winter hickups. It's time to get that shrinkwrap off and getting the boats ready for new season.

I spoke with the dockmaster and they are getting all the reservations in line at this time. So, please find a moment and give them your credit cards info to confirm your reservation.

If anyone else would like to join us, don't be shy.

Woo Hoo,

Shrink wrap is off, although I now have a cockpit full of snow, but it should melt pretty soon. Boat going in any day now. Just got off the phone with MYC, they now have my credit card number. I can't wait.

Looking at the charts I see Montauk airport is right there, I am going this weekend to find out about getting my Private Pilot Certificate. Has anyone done this recently that can offer any advice or words of wisdom...

My long range plan is to be able to bring the boat somewhere warm for the winter, and then be able to fly down and use it on the weekends.

How did that happen? Didn't you install the enclosure?

No, I don't use that very often.

I have a cover for the seat area, I find it much easier to just leave the cockpit open. The carpet gets wet, but it dries pretty quick and there is not much else out there. I stick the table and chairs inside during the week.

Greg, flying was my first passion. It's very much like boating without the alcohol, friends or family and a lot more expensive. I love it, but now I boat, drink and spend time with friends and family. Seriously unless you have obscene amounts of disposable income fly commercial, it's cheaper and less stressful- most of the time. On the low end your looking at a Cherokee six for your gang, not a cheap aircraft, assuming your bringing the fam. Annuals, storage and fuel are not for the faint of heart, of course you will still need ground transportation when you reach your destination and temporary storage, landing fees at the local FBO. It's a wonderful sense of freedom and accomplishment and a great off season distraction on a rental basis or ownership share, any other way you slice it it is a very rich mans hobby/toy/convenience. If you do decide to go forward with your plans I am throwing in my bid for adoption! ;-)

The expense is why i stick to my "virtual" pilots license, haha, Xplane is awesome!!! and cheap,,, I would love to fly greg, i say go for it. And dip your wings over my house on your way east.

Hey Joe,
Did you get my PM? Or is that another bug on this new system?

Alex,
I will call this week too. I have been a little pre-occupied lately.
