Alex...did you mean at block or elsewhere in the general area?

Yes Rick, I meant at the block.

Russ,
Thanks for very nice summary, it help a lot. I'm hoping that since we'll be checking in on Monday afternoon we might be able to avoid the craziness. Staying Mon/Tue/Wed could be the best option.

Sounds like a plan. Weekdays are much slower and quieter. Rafting will not be a problem.
Block truly is a state of mind and is a different place for everyone. If you go to party, it's one big island party. If you go to relax it's paradise. It is a special place, we have been going for 25+ years and it has yet to get old. You guys will love it.

Looks like our trip is slowly unfolding in to the following itenerary:

Fri am: Manasquan Inlet to Shinnecock Inlet to Shelter Island (West Neck Harbor). Spending the night on the hook Fri/Sat.
Sat am: SI to MYC and spednig Sat/Sun/Mon at MYC.
Mon am: MYC to Block Island (Champlins) Mon/Tue/Wed.
Wed am: BI to Shelter Island (Daring Harbor or Coecles Harbor) Wed/Thu.
Thu am: SI to Sag Harbor. Thu/Fri
I'm still thinking about the remaining couple of days until Sunday. On Sun is when we would head back home to NJ.

Can you guys give me some recommendations in regards to Sag Harbor? Where to stay (marina, mooring, anchoring) and thigns to do, where to dine? How many days should we stay there?

Are there any other good ports we should add to the trip on easter part of the Island (preferably shouthern side)? East Hamptons/South Hamptons, is there anything there, any good marinas?

Thanks,
Alex.

West hampton town marina is great. Frank the dok master is a real good guy. Town with tons of restaurants and shops is an easy 5 minute walk. Have access to beautiful semi-private beach too.

Yeah, I totally agree as we've been there last year. Great small and cool town. We might comeback there, but I was trying to go some place new and also avoid dealing with troubled shoaling spots of Shinnecock Bay. Those were something new I found besides Moriches.

Alex..Always good to leave a day or two for weather considerations

Good point, John. But, I would still prefer to plan on heading some nice port and in worst case cancel. I prefer that over trying to find something in the last minute, if the weather Gods are watching over us.

Admiral is suggesting Westhampton or Watch Hill, but I'm not very excited to deal with Moriches and Shinnecock Bays.

Alex, Sag has a mooring field and you just call harbormaster for one. There is a very nice anchorage under the bridge to starboard with a large bay to dinghy and swim etc. The anchorage is tops on my list, just do not cut the corner after you go under bridge. Sag is a great little town to explore and don't know of any "bad" rest. One neat place to eat is at the American Legion(really). I have stayed at the town docks a couple times which was ok for us as we didn't need to use the baths which leave a little to be desired.

Ric,

Thanks for the tips. Do you know if I'll need to raise that bridge? It sounds like I should just stay on the hook or pick a mooring in the Sag.

Do you have any experience with Three Mile Harbor in East Hampton?

Alex, Ric is spot on with Sag. Maybe Block to Watch Hill RI for an overnight then to 3 mile followed by Sag for the weekend. All great anchorages, Watch Hill RI is a quaint little seaside village with a restaurant and a few shops, a beautiful resort called the Ocean House on the hill. Great swimming and beaches. 3 mile is beautiful too and right around the corner you will be in Sag.

Joe,

Thanks for the tip. I've been using it ActiveCaptain.com for quite some time. It's indeed great tool to do the homework.

Other good tools for getting an idea of approaches visually is Bingmaps or Google Earth. I used to use marinas.com but Bing is better b/c you can rotate the views. Probably not anything new to most but something to keep in mind. Sometimes you can even see shoals from these clear aerial views.

I live here, so if you ever need me to look at the boat Alex, im around.

Alex and Russ, if your around give me a shout we can do lunch at Donovans.

Hey guys,

I think either on the weekend of 12th or 26th. I'll give you heads up. Mike and Larry are also right there, so may be we all can get together.

Count me in... With this weather, the only thing getting me through is thinking about boating!

Hey guys,

I got this form from MYC dockmaster.

MYC_Reservation_Form-1.gif

To simplify the group registration process I can send the complete spreadsheet to MYC, but I'll need some more info from you (the form requires just a bit more than what we have on the first page). So, think if I get full captain's full name, address and email address, boat draft we should be fine.

PLease PM me your info to keep it confidantial. If anyone doesn't feel comfortable giving me their address or any other info, please provide what you can and you'll give the rest of the info to MYC management.

After I send the compiled list to MYC you can call them and give them your credit card.

P.S.
Please double check your boat's info, specially LOA and beam, on the first page and let me know if I need to make any corrections.

Thanks,
Alex.

alex,
congrats on the new boat.
the cabin fever is getting to us with all of the snow around.
went to visit the boat this past weekend and there was still about a foot of snow in the marina. in any event, we are looking to explore more this summer and i think i am comfortable with taking out pocket cruiser to the canal and SI, so what the heck, the MYC sounds great. would like to go with payme paul and todd as we are coming from similar areas.. paul, i will displace you as the smallest member of the flotilla. block feels like a stretch , but maybe with the right conditions, who knows. looking forward to handing with you guys again. knot for sail 26sd 28.6l 8.6 b ron, wendy stacey , jon

Hey Ron,

It's been a while since we herd from you. I'm glad you guys are joining the party. I'm adding you to the list and will PM you for more info.

Cheers,
Alex.
