Lets see some Great Lakes boating pics 2015!!

Leaving the South Channel entering the main part of Lake St. Clair. You can see the pair of old South Channel range lights near the horizon.

Caseville Mi Saginaw bay - Lake Huron - Cheeseburger festival - Cardboard boat races on Saturday.

Looking out from the boat.

From the boat towards the beach.

Each summer we volunteer in the "Yacht Blast For Kids" Make A Wish event in Milwaukee. We work with Children's Hospital to take "Wish" kids and their families for a day on the lake. Our small group of boats have sponsors and raise funds for Make A Wish. Each year my wife Sue completely outdoes herself. This year our boat had a Sunday Bar complete with M&M's and Sprinkles. Combine that with having a wish Kid ring your yacht bell. You will be in the presents of an angel. Here are some shots from Yacht Blast For Kids, we are up the Milwaukee River.

A great distraction for the kid's and their families from what they face on a daily basis.

A very sincere Thank You

That's amazing. How did the event get started? I've never heard of anything like that up in our area but would volunteer in a hearbeat, our 290 looks like a baby compared to the boats in your pictures but I'm sure some bigger guys would join in as well.

What a great way to use a boat! I'm sure the kids are just in heaven. And I'm sure the boating experience is enhanced for everyone involved.

Yacht Blast For Kids- How we got Started. In October of 2008, a Milwaukee business man ( Glenn Kennedy ) was boating in sunny Florida. As his vessel arrived at the St. Petersburg Marina he noticed a young family near the pier. There was a young boy who cheered with excitement as the businessman secured the lines of his boat. With curiosity, the businessman walked up to the family and introduced himself. He knelt down to talk to the exited boy in wheel chair. The boy removed his oxygen assist and said with a big smile the businessman, “That’s totally awesome, some day I hope to ride in a boat like that.” The businessman leaned over and hugged the boy, telling him some day he will. It was later learned the family was in Florida because the boy was granted a “Wish” from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Unfortunately, it was the young boy’s last vacation. The very next year, in memory of the young boy who touched the heart of this Milwaukee businessman, Yacht Blast for Kids was founded, providing an opportunity for “Wish” Kids and families to experience the joy of boating on Lake Michigan. I hope this finds someone able to start an event like this in their neck of the woods. Mike

Great story and a great cause. Makes me want to start something in our area.

Escapade - is this organized and sponsored by MYC? Is there a need for more rides/boats?

There are several of us that are outside of McKinley/MYC that would be interested in donating boats and participating in a great event - if this might be an option and allow more kids to benefit from a great day on the water.

Thanks,
Dave

Great cause and great event!

Sorry to Hi-Jack the thread. I started a new thread called Yacht Blast Foe Kids.

My friend has a condo in that building in your first picture and he keeps his 460 DA named Seadorfer there in a slip! That's a beautiful river in that town.

Here's a few from this past sunday.

both of these I took from an inflatable boat I was floating around on. We were out about 8 miles on lake ontario in about 200' of water, the lake was glass all day

This was shot at anchor in Irondequoit Bay, just off the lake

This was apparently a "mature thunderstorm anvil cloud" as described by the news. It was well south of us but we happened to be eating dinner and could watch the lightning shooting down.

Here are a few.

Here are some pictures from Georgian Bay area. Like Molson, we went up to Port Rawson Bay, which is about a 2.5 hr run from our home marina in Penetanguishene, Ontario through some of the nicest scenery areas. I took video on the way up, but have not condensed and edited yet. But here are some pictures:

Cheating a bit since this was not from this trip, but from a fishing trip a few weeks ago, but its nice to start with a gratuitous sunrise wake shot.

View over the bow once in Port Rawson and rafted up to Paul and Jackie in their 560DB:

View of the collection of wives and dogs (one wife each, and one dog for me, 4 on the Jackie JV, and one on the Regal at the end. Made for a lot of dinghy trips to shore:

The first dinghy ride of the day. This was taken just before another boater yelled at me from his boat saying he had seen/heard a bear on shore minutes before. So stop the motor and sure enough, I hear a bear just in the woods rolling rocks and scraping at stumps looking for breakfast. (took the dog across the bay to a bit safer spot).

A couple of other boaters from Penetang that Paul travels with quite a bit. One is a Regal 5260 and the other is a larger Viking.
