I posted this as a reply in the newbie forum but doubt it will get much traffic so i'll start a new thread here...

Where do you all keep your boat slipped?

We keep it on the trailer at Marine Max in West Harbor. We are marina hoppers and go wherever we feel like when we are at the lake. Some nights at MarineMax but that is a little to oldish for my wife and I. We also stay at Marina Del Isle in East Harbor as we have friends there and it is a great facility. We also Have friends at Baypoint and stay there a few night a year as well.

When at the Islands we Usually stay at B-dock on South Bass and Portside at Kelleys. I am really excited that they actually finished the Marina at Middle Bass. Generally in years past this has been our base of Operations so having it back next summer is going to be great.

Question? Have they actualy finished the marina at Middle Bass? Is there a web site? Dock @ Son Rise in Sandusky.

Cedar Point, dock 5. Great location, except my little 40' looks tiny next to the 59 Carver, 54DA, 56DB, and 58SS.

My dad has his 2 boats at East Harbor State Marina in West Harbor next to Anchor's Away. I put in there last summer and when on Kelleys, we keep it on the trailer (mine is not big enough to worry about slipping yet). Have used Unique Marker and Craft's in the past when on trips with my dad and family.

We are also @ Son Rise in Sandusky (C Dock.) Well kept marina with great showerhouse & pool. It is a little "urban" and lacks some of the resort feel of places like Bay Point. We joined Crew's Nest @ Put-In-Bay last year and really enjoy the quieter side of PIB with the kids.

Check out the news section of http://www.middlebass.org/ for info on the new state park marina.

Only 4 1/2 more months...

Here is a posting on the ODNR website.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The campground and marina will be closed for extensive renovation beginning October 1, 2007 until sometime in 2009.

Can't wait for it to open!!

By the way I'm out of Vermilion

Cedar Point. (go figure)

My neighbors defected from CPM and are moving to Son Rise to get some peace and quiet. Are those docks lettered from West to East, or East to West?

They have a 44, so I'd expect them to be on one of the more Western piers...

Wow - look at the pics of Middle Bass harbor! Very cool. The channel looks nice and wide, and the basin is huge. I'll be curious to see what the piers look like. If they do it right, it'll be an awesome alternative to: let's face it, miserable dockage options on S.B.I. I hope they don't do like Portside did and decide that marinas should be built based on an average LOA of 29 ft!

When we moved to Son Rise a few boats had just moved to CP because Son Rise was too quiet for them. Sometimes we wish for a bit more "nightlife", but enjoy the relative security with younger kids. The piers are lettered west to east, with a 44 they will probably be on A or B dock.

I'm with you on Portside. We have had our most harrowing docking experiences there (with a '33) it's tight and any wind makes it exciting. Haven't been there with the '40 for that reason. It's too bad, I really enjoyed eating breakfast, watching ESPN at the Tiki bar.

We are looking forward to the opening of Middle Bass also. It will be interesting to see what the State Park does to the feel of the island.

We had our maiden voyage with our "new to us" 400 sedan at Portside in a nice 15knot wind. Marina was packed and I had only driven inboards once before! It was interesting to say the least. Didn't touch anything/anyone thank goodness. Not a good first experience. After a few more weeks of practice it was a piece of cake.
We had about 20 boats from our cruising club move to son rise this year (mostly from dock 7)

Portside really is a pain in the A$$ to get into, and seems to always be a bit bouncy, even on a calm day (thanks to the Jet), but the facilities are great.....

and the sunsets can be beautiful.

BTW whoever came up with the 1 shower idea needs to have their head examined. But I digress....

Hope to see you all there next summer.

Here's a blurb from a news announcement I found on the Middlebass Website about the progress of the marina.

"We shall re-water the basin this fall. We believe this should be done mid November.
Over the winter there will not be access to the marina or facilities.
Next Spring we will be having the docks delivered. These are being built over the winter off site and delivered next spring. We are still on target for some docks to be usable next June.
Next spring & summer roads will be established to the boat ramp and marina area along with walk paths within the continuing construction zone.
The big blue barn - former Roesch barn, has been moved to a northern site for future park operations.
The water tower, will be erected next spring, with water and sewer lines being run into the marina late next summer. Electric will also be established late next summer to the docks. In the mean time we will be using the old standby restrooms - port-a-jons until the new infrastructure is established. Once the new water, sewer & electric is in we should be able to hook up our restroom shower trailer and use them until we get the more permanent restrooms built."

Just FYI...it will be nice to add another destination on the lake!

Electric will also be established late next summer to the docks.

I wonder if that means late '09, or late '10? Either way, why "late"? I can understand that we'd have to wait for new buildings and infrastructure (muni water) to be built, but they HAD power there. Why let a whole season go by with this exciting new facility crippled by a lack of power? Let's just hope we don't hear about a CO-related death as some moron decides that air-conditioning at 3:00 a.m. is more important than the survival of his family...

Rants aside, this IS awesome progress for the boating community. Maybe SBI will pay attention and encourage/allow some expansions as well. Does anyone else recall talk about Ladd's (now Put-In Bay Marina) expanding?

I just wish that I had had the chance to buy into the Sonny B operation (MBI to SBI shuttle). His business will be incredible.

After having my anchor get hit while inside Portside, I got smart and made reservations requesting the east side of C-Dock. They gave me the corner of A-Dock anyway, and of course, we didn't get through breakfast the next morning before a boat hit us again. It's hard to blame the poor bastard when I'm sticking out NINE feet! (I blamed him anyway) :smt021

In early July, I made SURE to get C-Dock. It was a brilliant move. There's easily 55' of fairway in front of the bow. However, not only did the Jet rock us every hour, but it also provided entertainment: a 370DA three wells down was rocking so hard I could see their cockpit carpet. We had bets that the admiral was going to lose her Walleye Nugguts and Fries, but the ol' girl held her own.

Matt, I think I've seen a 400DA on Son Rise C-Dock, on the inside, west end of the pier. Is that you?

Dave, do you have any updates on Chris? I haven't heard about her since her fall. I get a sick feeling every time I think about it.

So there are four of us in Sandusky Bay, and we still haven't met? How lame are WE? You guys should really coordinate something. :smt043

We dock at Cedar Point Marina, Pier 2. We have been at CPM for 15 yrs and while it is sometimes a pain there is always something to do. Our trips have been limited to the Islands, Huron, Vermillion and Leamington for the past several summers. We used to make it to Lake St Clair every year pre $4 gal fuel. I am curious to see fuel prices this spring, hoping for $2.49 or less on the water. Doesn't hurt to dream.

Dave are you near the end of pier 5? We used to on 4 until 2003.

First experience @ Portside, spring of 2007. Headed north the whole trip over. Didn't realize (my fault) the wind was blowing strong out of the north (later checked to be 35kts!) turn west in the marina, immediately nearly blown into a whole row of boats docked stern in. Regain some control as I watch everyone scrambling to fend off some idiot (me.) Lose control again, get blown back into the SW corner of 2 alleys. Somehow get in a slip halfway down the western pier. To this day I have no idea how I didn't do any damage to some very expensive boats. My oldest son was a nervous wreck the remainder of that season...I think he finally trusts me again now.

There is a beautiful, meticuosly kept '41 Sundancer named "Outrageous" at the end of C dock @ Son Rise. There are actually 4 - 40/41 Dancers on the west side of C dock. We are the 3rd one heading North to South. Can't wait to get back in the water...

We are at the beginning of dock 5. Just past Freedom, go left at the first finger.

I'm not sure how the lady is doing after the fall. I was over on dock 7 when it happened... I think I just missed it. I didn't hear anything bad after that weekend, so hopefully everything was okay.... that seems like sooo long ago. These next few months are going to be tough.
I am stored up in Michigan (Sea Ray is doing some work for me) so I can't even drive up to work on her easily!
Looking forward to hooking up!

This is our last summer at Cedar point. We are moving back to Canada in Sept. so we will be running the boat up to Georgian Bay sometime in August. It should be a great trip! Although we only had a couple summers to enjoy the Islands, it was a great experience. We will definately make a trip back sometime.

Dave,

Where do you boat out of in Georgian Bay? We've been based from Victoria Harbour (near Midland) for fifteen years until '08.

We haven't made up our minds yet. We used to be on Lake Simcoe before we moved to the US last year. We would make 3-4 trips thorugh the Severn to Georgian Bay each summer. Now we are going to leave it in Georgian Bay.
We like the social marinas, so we were thinking Doral or Bayport. But I would love to be closer to the nice anchorages to keep fuel costs reasonable, so we contemplated Moose Point (12 mile bay).... but the marina is very basic and everyone basically gets there on Friday and heads out till Sunday.
So, we are still on the fence. I was thinking maybe SouthBay Cove in Honey Harbor so that we are closer to the anchorages but still not in the middle of no where.
Any advice is welcome!
Where are you? I have stayed in that area a few times. Queens Cove and Beacon Bay.

You're right, we should get together. I'm on A Dock in Son Rise, a black hulled 44Da on the east side, in the middle sterned in. East Side for breakfast?
