Kohler 5 ECD generator help please

Hello guys I know this has been talked about a lot on this forum. I have reviewed all treads and have done what have helped others but with no luck.

Boat is a 2006 340. Gen has 115 hrs on it. Generator is throwing a LOC and shutting down about 15 seconds after full RPM is reached. I understand there is a time delay to allow water pressure and oil pressure to build.

I have installed new impeller checked water supply to strainer and out to exhaust thru hull. I have installed new water hoses through out. Removed heat exchanger and Back flushed. Removed fuel module and checked for build up. It was clean as it fresh water boat. Pressure tested fuel pumps.

I have tested water pressure sensor with continuity and confirmed it normally closed when not pumping but will open when gen is started for the 15 seconds. I have burped coolant side using bleed plug. I have removed wires from sensors jumped together every combination I could think of. This generator does NOT have the optional HET switch on exhaust with uses the same loop at the lwp switch.
Checked all connections, checked PCB board for corrosion and replaced K5 relay in the located beside the SCR module.

This generator has a 2 wire plug sensor under the coolant side close to LWP .
Has a single wire temp switch located on the opposite side of the engine near the front.

There is something causing this LOC and I have over 20hours of troubleshooting in so far.
Runs great before shutting down

Any info or help would much appreciated.

I’d start checking other things not coolant pressure related
Plugs wires coils fuel pressure and injector
These things just seem to throw random codes in my experience I had uu code and then loc and after replacing injector everything worked fine

Sometimes it takes a couple times for it to start

Where did you get your injector from

Ordered it online somewhere
The part number is in the service manual
Another thing with the 5ecd is the high pressure fuel pumps disintegrate from the inside out which in turn causes the injector to get plugged up
I’d check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve
I’ll have a look for my notes and manual on this
Spent hours and hours on mine trying to get it going
 
I ordered the injector yesterday
I will check fuel pressure at the same time

DrPringle is correct, I had the same codes and similar symptoms as you after a high pressure pump install. Turned out to be the fuel injector. The injector can be cleaned with a good carburetor cleaner, compressed air and a 12 volt supply. (web search)
 
If it’s the original high pressure pump I’d replace both or you’ll just be replacing injectors constantly
 
Where are you finding parts?
I want to replace the governor solenoid, but can't find it.
 
I have ordered my injector from seafarers online store in Florida
 
Well installed new injector with out change
Removed all wire loom to check for bad connections or pinched wires

All.looks good

Getting lots of OC codes Now
Checked map sensor and throttle body connections aswell
New one is cc1 thru 3 then OC shutt down
It does this as it running

Or it will do a cc1 with out turning over

Any ideas getting ready to use it as a anchor

Any input would be much appreciated !!

Check the fuel pressure yet?
Check all the fuses ?
Test the coil packs ?

Could you let me know how you accessed the service manual? I am looking to replace all harnesses? Thank you

Again as its running its flashing the cc1 thru cc3 then oc
I will replace all fuses just in case
Is there a fault code clear or do you just turn off and that resets the adc 2100?

I found the full service manual pdf on Google
I can send you a pic of the fuse layout and fuse amperage

I can try and send you the manual as well

Not sure if I PM you or the best way to get it to you

Double check the oil level if it is at all on the low side it will shut of generator.

The fault code clears once it’s shut off
The cc1-3 is the cranking cycle
Mine was doing the same and was injector in the end
I’ll dig thru my parts
I have coils o2 sensor and maybe some other things kicking around
Those generators are sure frustrating
Once you get it figured run it often
 
I had it off for a hour and tried it same codes
Frustrating is right

This thing is way over engineered for what it is
If I can't get it I'm pulling the gen set out when I winterize and pulling the adc out

I will get a simple gen control for my dash that has safety features required and simplify this thing like the older westerbeke generators
Honestly even if I do get it running I won't trust it
 
Not sure if you’ve read all the posts about the high pressure fuel pumps
Worth checking out
