Keowee 2009 Labor Day?

Yes I have several times. Took Jay 2 summers ago. Finding the waterfalls are neat. It's beautiful. Y'all been?

No, we started 2 yrs ago, but chickened out, because it was 38 deg. and the water was so low I couldn't get to the dock to get Janet in boat. We would love to tour Jocassee. Will it take 2 days to see it? I thought it was pretty small:huh:

Its not big and you can get to all 5 waterfalls in a day. But we woulnt have but Sat to mess around. Fri night would be enough time to basically just settle into an anchor spot. We need to make sure of the water level and ability to put our boats in/pull out. I think that ramp is no steeper than the one at Seneca though. I have a map of where all the falls are and can remember how to get to them. I thinks its the prettier lake. Deep, cold with 5 tributaries and boardered by the mountains on 3 sides.

We'll have to try to work that in, I'll feel better with an experenced "GUID":smt001

Paul, do you know if either ramp would be better for our boats? I know the main one would have more turning room, but if the water level is high enough, I am thinking both could work. Tell Jane to make a Jocassee and a Keowee cake and come join us. That way you can be sure to get your end of the trade before its gone too! :smt038

I'm game for hitting Jocassee first. I love that lake. Seems I remember one of the launch ramps is longer than the other, but, they are both very long.

The lake was designed to be pulled down very low. Bad Creek Power station uses the water from Jocassee to power it's generator.

Anyways I game for Jocassee first.

Hi Everyone! This is Lynn..."Mrs. Ringy Dinghy." I'll look forward to seeing everyone who can make it this year to beautiful Lake Keowee!

At the risk of sounding like a stick in the mud with my very first post here (I'm really NOT)...the water fall is not a good place to be on a holiday weekend...lot's of highly intoxicated youngin's with competing stereos blasting...crazy stuff! Last time we were up there, we watched a goober drive across two or three anchor lines...then he tried to back up thinking they would "unwind." Doh!

The good news is that there are tons of beautiful spots we can go!

Capt. Ryan hooked us up with a great new spot this summer...and it would hold a rather large gathering...just one of many possible locations.

Did somebody say cake?? YUM!!!

Hey Lynn, Last years site was great. The waterfall was just kind of joke, but sure would be cool if we took over the whole cove before anybody else got there.

If we did a Jocassee on Saturday, where would we put in on Sunday for Keowee?

We can do Saturday or Monday. Sunday we are in Hendersonville for the Apple Fest.

We had such a great time last year, we would like to join ya all once again. Never been to Jocassee, but I here the water is ccccold.

I was hoping we could do the 2nd annual SR Labor Day weekend raft up.

Lynn, I agree, there are lots of pretty coves that would be suitable for anchoring, the waterfall is a "Popular spot" that is fun to visit, but not sure I'd want to stay there all night.

Chuck, Mike is going to check on a landing, that he knows about. IF I remember correctly, Mill creek is not very far from Jocassee, we used it 2yrs ago, it is secure, and has 2 nice ramps, lots of parking, restrooms, several docks, picnic tables. A real nice facility. We'll see what Mike comes up with.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone, hopefully Sadler and family will join the group.

Lynn, there will be lots of good food to be shared, we have several excellent cooks that like to feed you till you are miserable, especially "Cake"

We are going to do our best to join the raft up on Jocassee for the day Saturday. We will probably be "boat-less" since I don't have a truck or trailer for Hey Babe, but hopefully some of you big boats can fit the three of us (my wife, my 11yr old daughter, and myself) aboard. Thanks so very much to Kes for suggesting this! (Because we are traveling, I've not been doing my usual CSR reading.) For fun, I may bring our dinghy so we are not totally boatless. Boy am I desperate. Really looking forward to the day and seeing everyone.

If you are serious, that would be perfect. I understand there is a rock issue along some of the shoar lines. We could dinghy right up to the water falls ----etc.:grin:

Sadler you know you're always welcome aboard MS Judy. We are hoping to make a weekend (Sat & Sun) of it.

Good deal! Glad you and the fam will be able to join us. Can't wait to meet them. We have plenty of room now. Bring it on with the dinghy too. Bet we can get a good calendar pic on Jocassee with it. And maybe I can work on my certificate during some of your time onboard. :smt038

OMG! Cake is my DOWNFALL! LOL! I make speciality cakes and you'd think I'd get sick of it...but Nooooo! And Mr. Ringy Dinghy is quite the grill master...we'll have to see what he comes up with this time!

Can't wait to see everyone! And for those going to Jocassee..it is C.O.L.D. water up there. But very beautiful, if you go up by the dam, you might be able to swim with the geese. I guess that's the "salt water light" version of swimming with dolphins.

Thanks to everyone! We'll probably head for the house to sleep but might be able to return Sunday. I'll be sure to bring the dinghy and motor. Is Jocassee too cold to swim in my daughter asks? If so, she will bring her Mom's wet suit.

A shorty might be good for her to have if she is cold natured or plans to be in for a while. But will most likely depend on the weather up until that point. Could go either way and we can just watch.

Ok with the time fast approaching, we need to layout out some kind of agenda for this. From what I'm seeing it looks like it is going to be a two part weekend. Friday and Saturday at Jocassee, Sunday and Monday at Keowee. Has anybody found hotels in the area if they are not sleeping on the boat? Come on head cruise directory lets get some info going(Grin)
