Jl audio M 7.7's or Fusion 7.7's speakers in cockpit 340 sundancer

Found this set up on line, i think it might work for me...

http://www.earmarkcaraudio.com/set15/large/item-10/P0007734.jpg

i am adding a pair of tower speakers but trying to find best location to install them aiming rear of the boat so i can have more volume when i am on the water.
Skunkman here is going to send me a pic of his installation so i can have an idea, i am 6'5" so clearence could be a problem

any ideas or recommendations will be appreciated , also adding another subwoofer under side steps in the rear area,
here is a pic of my boat at Shuckers here in Miami Beach taken last week ( north bay village exactly)

Bottom line i will have a total of (8) 7.7 jl audio M series, (3) 10" jl subw and (2)8.8 jl m tower speakers.
powered by 4 amps , (2 ) jl m600/6 and (2) jl m 1000/5 with a fusion Av 750 ,
i am stopping here , no more additions to the stereo , i am done.

How about something like this.....

Check out waves and wheels at lake of the ozarks. They make a speaker pod.

I am also considering adding the 8.8s and having the same issue with clearance. I have a grill in the cockpit on the port side which further complicates things. I think side mounting similar to the photo of the 280 will be my best option.

Mines are already installed , no clearance issues, I will post pics tomorrow , hope it helps, very happy with outcome, thanks everyone for the support, yes they were installed sideways and make sure you feed them with at least 200 watts per ch , they can take it... And as skunkman said, do get a separate knob or zone for them, output is crazy loud and clear

After spending another weekend on the water my wife commented how good the stereo sounded on another boat we passed.

GREEN LIGHT!

I'm adding a set of 7.7 m series components and a M10ib5 sub to my already existing 6.5 m series coaxials.

I have a bunch of different amps I can try out. My PPI 4400 will run the full range speakers in the cockpit and a 4200 runs the speakers in the cabin. I have a JL 250/1 I'm going to try on the sub and if that doesn't cut it I have an old beast waiting for its turn in the sun again. Kicker ZR600. I would really love to get new amps but with the options I have on hand I can't justify the cost. Yet...

Here we go !!!

For those of you that have components, did you flush or surface mount the tweeters?

Wow, those 8.8s huge. Not sure I want something that big hanging off my arch.

They are not on the way at all, to me they look pretty sleek, and when you hear them sound you are sold, not much diff between 7.7's and 8.8's pods though...
Love them ...

I had the local JL dealer bring the 8.8 pods out to see if they would work. No go on the head clearance over the captain's chair. Opted to add two more 7.7 coaxs in the arch and two on the transom. A second 10" sub and a 400/4 amp. Now have twelve 7.7s coaxes, two JL 10" subs, an EQS preamp and three JL amps totaling 1500 watts. Cost of the four 7.7s was less than two 8.8 pods. Very loud now and crystal clear.

On my boat there are no clearance issues with these big pods, it might be because of the different arch designs.
do you think the pre amp eq you have makes a big difference in your system? I considered that but my installer said it wasn't necessary. I am still considering adding it...what sold you on the Eq ?

Sounds like you guys have done your homework, I am no audio tech but love good quality music and my boat is seriously lacking in that department '"97 370 EC" and original clarion equipment... So I am shopping for upgrades here is what I have on the list so far...

Head Unit - Fusion MS-IP700i
Bluetooth Module - Fusion BT-100
Wired Remote - Fusion MS-NRX200i
Amp - Wet Sound SYN6 (Channel's 1-4 for 6.5's and 5-6 Bridged for sub)
6.5's - Wet Sounds XS-650 RGB's (4 OHM / 100W RMS / 200W Peak / 40hz-20khz)
Sub - Wet Sounds XS-10FA-S4 (4 OHM / 300W RMS / 600W Peak / 20hz - 500hz) "FREE AIR"

From the research I have done and from reading what you guys have talked about this should be a pretty descent set up? Wet sounds states on their website that you can run 2 of these 10" subs on this amp with up to 4 pair of 6.5's I have a pretty good idea on how to wire it up but want yall's input on my selection of equipment or any other recommendations on equipment and wiring procedures... I may add a second 10" sub if this goes well if I were to add one later should I get 2 r 4 OHM subs? Just need to find a location for it before I start cutting holes...
One more ? I have never torn into my boat to wire anything up or run any wires past the electronics at the helm to the fuse box below. I will be adding 2 x 6.5's to the existing set up which the boat already has cut outs and blanks in these locations. I like to do things right the first time I am pretty mechanically inclined so what would it take to run all new speaker, amp and remote wires etc...from outside to the head unit located in the main breaker cabinet in the galley and the amp located under the galley sink? And what size wires are recommended? Thanks you guys for all the input!

Jay,

How many in-boat speakers are you planning on running?

You can, with careful tuning, run a single 10fa-S4 bridged on 5/6 of the Syn-6. But, if you plan to do two, you need the 2 ohm 10fa. Two wired in series, then bridged. So my question here is, how serious are you about adding a 2nd sub? This important on 2 fronts, matching amp output and sub coil impedance and the location of the 2nd sub. Due to phasing, the 2nd sub can reduce the perceived bass, rather then add to it.

i ended up adding the Audiocontrol Matrix ( 6 channel line driver) plus the wet sounds equalizer WS 420 SQ
JimT thank you , it made a great system sound better overall , we increased the pre amp volts from 2v ( head unit)to 6v and lowered the gain on all 4 amps.
if you think your system sounds great , it might be true but add a line driver like this by Audiocontrol and it will sound even better cleaner. At least that was my experience, my installer was impressed. He had never tried this product...
