Hi everyone, my name is Heather. I'm new to this site but I'm not new to boating. I recently inherited a 1985 Sea Ray 260 when my Dad passed away in January. I'm very familiar with his boat as I have been his first mate countless times but I'm sure there is plenty I can learn from the members of this site. My dad has always helped me with maintenance on my own boats (1995 Crownline 250cr {which is now 4 sale} & 1991 Ebbtide 182 BR) now I have to put to use his many valuable lessons. I boat on the Chesapeake so if you are in the area, give me a shout!!!!

Welcome Heather! That is really neat to carry on with with your dad's boat, lots of memories I'll bet!

Yes, I thought about keeping mine and selling his but it just wasn't right. He loved his boat and it made him happier than anything in the world, so the Crownline is up for sale and I'm now a proud owner of a Sea Ray!

Hi Heather-

My condolences on the passing of your father. Welcome to the forum and excellent idea about keeping the Sea Ray. I hope you always have great memories of the times you spent together.

We'll be happy to help you in any way.

Welcome, and its great to hear your keeping his boat. No matter what make or model it is. It sounds like the start of a family heirloom.

My neighbors dad passed away in 2007 and we got his checkmate up and running again last season. It was funny to help him and his brother-in-law work on it because he was the last one to touch it. we'd run into road blocks and have to stop and laugh thinking "he's probably laughing his ass off right now looking down on us". There was always the "what the heck was he thinking" or the classic, "where the hell'd he store the radio?"

Its definatly a great feeling to keep the memory alive.

Welcome !

Welcome aboard Heather. I bet your dad is smiling down upon you with great pride and joy, regardless of what boat you have it is the love of boating that your father shared with you and for which you will share with others. The stories will follow and you will have a smile on your face when you tell them.
If you are ever in the N. VA Potomac River area, give us a holler. Until then, have fun and use this site for your resource library as well as for friendships.

Welcome Heather.....nice to see you carry on with your Dad's boat. I'm sure he'd be proud!

Welcome Heather - great story and great boat. Glad to see you keeping it around!

What is that bracket for on the transom of your new boat?

Welcome Heather, what a great story, my condolences on the loss of your father. Lost mine 2 years ago and miss him. I'm sure he'd be very proud of you keeping the boat and I think you made the right decision. I had a 26 FT Searay, loved it, great boat. Have a great season.

Thank you all for the kind words! So sorry it took so long for me to get back to you all, it has been a VERY hectic year :( BUT the old boat sold (FINALLY) so no i'm working on fixing up my dad's boat, well I guess my boat :( :)

If anyone has a tips or places to get older boats parts, please point me in the right direction!!!!

Thank you all again!

I have to be honest, I have no idea what that bracket it for. I never actually saw it on the boat, my dad took it off :) But if I find it in my endless efforts to clean her out this spring, I'll be happy to share my findings!

Welcome Heather - Sorry to hear about your loss. If you're ever down near Jelly Fish Joel's, stop by for a cold one. We'll be the one's with the three crazy kids:grin:

We do plan to get down there this year so I will certainly let you know when! We will be the ones with the 2 CRAZY border collies :)

Stop by any time, (slip B-63) Jenn and I always have plenty of ice cold refreshments.
Joe:grin:

Welcome aboard & glad to see your father brought you up right! (bet he has a smile on his face).
