Is this a scary project???

I think that is a foam cored hull and it could be quite scary. You may want an opinion from Frank Webster on this one.

Is this a real question?

This is a cored hull boat that has been totaled because the core in the hull is wet from the rub rail to the bottom of the core in the side. I'm all for projects, but this is one the insurance co already determined wasn't worth fixing. The repair would entail removing the rub rail, then cutting the outer skin off the hull, then removing all of the wet/rotted core, recoring the sides, then reattaching the outer skin and finally, grinding out the hull joint where the skin was removed about 18" wide and building up the glass schedule and then re-gelcoating the patched area.

Take lots of photos and let us know when you are done…………….

As a broker I'll chime in. That boat assuming hull and engine are good, I would not more than 35K in it. There is not much of a market for those boats. Don't get me wrong I think its a great layout, just not very popular.

The listing states "Private Salvage". Does that mean owner is selling or someone bought it and trying to flip it for a profit. I would not go near it but seams I saw a web site or you tube video that demonstrated using vacuum technology to dry out a wet core and treat the core to prevent it from recurring.

Offer him 10k. At least if you can't fix it you can part it out and make your money back

Isn't Masterfab looking for a new project?

Seriously, if someone gave you this boat you would be way upside down in it before you ever launched it.

Just say no.

Club searsy home page has a a write up on a wet hull sea ray. Just hit the home button on top left corner

I think scot is stored next to a boat that is being "sucked dry",that just dont sound right.

I posted the article on the wet core 460DA on the home page. That one happened to be a local boat with a known cause for the wet core. The fix was simple and easy because the leak occurred when the owner changed a hull vent and didn't properly bed the new one, so the extent of the leak (area involved) and how long it existed were known. As a result, there was no rot. When the balsa is promptly and completely dried, you don't have to open up the structure.

If the repair was that simple on the 450EB, then the owners local dealer could have fixed the issue for beer money instead a sum equal to a home mortgage amount.

The other real issue here is the quality of investment would be dismal. The EB's are a cold boat with very low demand, even though most who own them seem to be happy owners. Like it or not, demand does affect resale value. Additionally, a big boat with significant damage history is traditionally another low demand boat. I don't know about all the legal points, but I think you would have to disclose the extent of the damage and the nature of the repair if you ever sold the boat or face a lawsuit for for not doing so. Much like selling a car with a salvage title, you will take a hit on resale

Did u see the 58 footer they also have with running gear damage
I saw that boat... At least when you finished that boat it would be worth something for resale... I am sure the selling price will reflect its value...

Even after parting out this thing, you'd still have the problem of getting rid of the hull. When my boat was totaled after Sandy I was given quotes of greater than $6K to cut it to ribbons and take it away in a dumpster or 3. Then there's the issue of paying the storage until you get the pieces sold. AND the enviro-bullcrap that needs to be settled settled. RUN, DON'T WALK away from this "project."

I had to look away, the abuse this boat has suffered is disturbing. Frank confirms that this is past salvage.
