Does anyone have a preference on insurance companies? I got a quote from progressive and they were out of the park wanting 3k a year, then I got a quote from BoatUS and it was $850 a year or about 80 bucks a month...seems like a good deal.

Also when telling the insurance company the horsepower of the boat...if I have twins (2 350 MAG) do i tell them 350 or 700? Ive seen people list their horsepower both ways...im not sure why...I would think it would be 700.....

My insurance is with State Farm and it's about $80 a month...I don't understand the Progressive quote. That's way out of line. As for how to show the hp, I'd ask them. The T-350s are 300 hp each, not 350 hp (boy do I wish).

I am currently with Allstate. Based on various posts at CSR, I decided to get a quote from NBOA which ended up being almost half off. I will be renewing with NBOA.

I have an 02 34 Sundancer. I have Seatow and received a letter telling that they now sell boat insurance. I called and saved $ 400.00 per year. I have $120,00 hull coverage, plus collision, comprehensive, medical, fuel spill and ininsured boater coverage for $ 823.00 per year. If anyone out there wants a quite, call 1-800-973-3941. The company that they place the coverage with is New Hampshire Insurance Company. Also check to make sure you have Full Replacement coverage on the Hull value you select. If you get ACV (Actual Cash Value) and have a total loss, they will base settlement on the cheapest same year model and year that they find or see in one of the boat value books.
Full Replacement Value or Stated Value policy will pay you the policy limit in the event of a total loss.

Lay up time is 12/1to 4/1. I have 6.2 motors (320HP x 2 ) that I gave them for the above quote and coverages.

I had the same situation. Progressive way too high. Went with NBOA.

I use Voyager Insurance company, you can find them onlilne. They are a broker so they can shop for a good rate. I pay $570.00 per year.

I have Progressive... I think it is around $600 per year... With progressive you just have to raise you deductible and you can cut the premium by a lot... BTW, I got Progressive through USAA...

Just was wondering if anyone ever has read the policy and what they will cover on a boat. I think it was Jason78 mentioned he has Allstate. I use to use them as well until I read the policy. I think there are only a small amount of companies that cover everything. In otherwords if you are out cruising for the day and a hose were to break or something and you park it at the dock and it sinks overnight Allstate will NOT cover the boat. I couldnt belive it when i read that and called and they confiremed. You have to have an accident for it to be covered. Or at least that is what they tell me. I use Boat US and was very picky with them when I created my policy. I pay a little more than I should but in the event of an accident or something I know I am 100% covered. I have heard NBOA and Seatow were very good and very comparible to Boat US... Having said this I belive every company is different from state to state.

I changed from Progressive to NBOA and cut my premium in half to $518 for $120K of agreed value coverage and unlimited towing with a $1,200 deductible. They also pay their claims generously. I submitted a $12.8K claim and got an $11.2 settlement. As a Sea Ray owner you get a special rate from them.

I changed from Travelers to NBOA this year and saved over $130. NBOA shops the market for you. Think I paid $563 for the year on agreed valuation of 95,000 and the usual 1% deductible, no lay-up period.

We all have to check with several companies as insurance is highly individual. It is based on age and quality of the boat, claims history of the applicant and boat, and credit score. The companies also select criteria such as geographic area or type of craft they wish to be competitive in.

Try Global Marine Insurance to find the best rate for you. When I compared, they were less than other quotes from the same companies quoted by other agencies. Search their name as I posted a detailed thread on this earlier this summer.

you might want to re check the value on your boat i thought i was over insured and the company looked it up and my 03' is worth $109,000

$120K is what I paid for the boat which is why it's the agreed value. Since I just made a claim 2 months ago, I really don't want to open the door to a premium increase at this time. However when I renew next March I will see what my boat is worth and make any adjustments to the agreed value at that time.

It really depends on where you live. Here in South Florida where some companies won't cover you for hurricanes, I found that Boat US had the best coverage for the lowest price, where a few years ago they were much higher. I tried NBOA and their initial rates were lower, but their deductible is much larger.

Our policy with NBOA and agreed value of 130 K is 651.00/ yr. I am on inland lake which makes a difference.

Same. Mine is about $2200/year for '05 340 valued at 170,000 and for a $3,500 dinghy/engine. Very low deductible and 52 week use/year.

I pay $1K per year with AllState. If I recall correctly I have $1K deductible. It sounds like there are better deals out there.

I use NBOA. Agreed value of $110k, deductible, $2200 for hull, $250 for Personal effects and $3300 for windstorm. My premium is $690 + 25 for NBOA membership which is suppose to get waived if the boat is a Sea Ray.
