I can't be the only one fascinated by this Titan sub ordeal

I figured it been over a month but I had to share this anyway :D

A documentary coming out in March

That's 5 minutes of my life I won't get back. One set of knocking sounds not timed to the implosion means what?

When you consider what engineers actually design to go to the bottom of the ocean you realize how incredibly stupid his carbon fiber toilet paper tube was.

At least they all died in an instant.

Gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it

That said, it's truly remarkable they were able to design a submersible from scratch that did in fact reach the Titanic, multiple times.

No…. So you’re saying you can make a box of condoms from scratch and the first 3 worked as designed and the 4th one blew up and that was good even remarkable ?

Batting .750? Hell yeah...
Oh boy….. let’s do some math…. The first 3 condoms cost you dinner and a movie….. the forth condom has not stopped costing you everyday…. day in and day out for 21 years…… no you never ever get in, put on …anything home made

Pffft, that was nothing, remember George Santos? Now that he is no longer helping to run the most powerful country in the world, he has more time for his hobby...free diving.

He's going to try to set a record that can never be beaten. Here is, a training dive to the deck of the Titanic

They said there would be no math!!!

For the record I'd still be batting one thousand. I've been shooting blanks for far too long to get worried about failed DIY prophylactics.

Their big mistake was not necessarily the design, it was reusing the sub for multiple dives.

The Apollo Command Modules and the Lunar Modules had 100% perfect service records on their flights to the moon, but NONE of them were reused. What do you think their record would have been if they reused them? (Well, really, just the Command Modules because they were the only parts to come back to Earth!)

So what you are really saying is don’t reuse a condom if it worked the first time you used it ?

No. What he is really saying concerns an engineering phenomena know as fatigue life.

This was built in a factory. It failed due to exceeding the fatigue life of the materials it was made of.

They have a finite life span.

This is built out of similar materials and in a similar manner as the sub:

They also have a fatigue life.
Although factory built, they to will explode and drop out of the sky if they are used to the point where they fail due to exceeding the fatigue life of the structure.
