I can't be the only one fascinated by this Titan sub ordeal

I can get through a MRI, it's the anticipation that freaks me out. And I have taken the happy pill for them.

Had to have a gum procedure a few years ago and had to sit in that chair for almost 4 hours. Didn't get sedation. That kind of messed me up too, can't even go to the dentist now.

So let's assume they find them, how will they rescue them, they're over 2 miles down there.

Doc always tells me that if I have to go the closed MRI route he will give me a pill that is "like an instant 12 pack". I told him I'd need 2....
I had to have 2 MRI’s done last October and the doc gave me Valium and it still took me 2 tries to get in keeping my eyes closed the whole time.

I took a sub ride in Aruba about 15 years ago. Wasn't nervous at all. But we were only down about 25' or so...lol. 3 miles? Forget it. Won't even consider it.

From one of the passengers:

In an interview two years ago, Harding acknowledged the risks and dangers of underwater expeditions after he had traveled with U.S. explorer Victor Vescovo more than two and a half miles along the floor of the Mariana Trench, 35,876 feet below the sea surface.

"The only problem is that there is no other sub that is capable of going down there to rescue you," he said of that journey. "[H]aving four days of supply doesn't make a difference really. If something goes wrong, you are not coming back."

Everything in life is risk. About 170 people in the US alone annually injure themselves fatally or drown in their bathtubs. I'm still going to take a shower every day. About 42,795 people died in car crashes in the US last year. I'm still driving to work tomorrow. You just gotta weigh the risk versus reward. We all have a boat even though in 2022 636 people died in boating accidents. I can see the allure of taking the sub to see the wreck of the Titanic I mean how many people in the world could make the claim to have done so. It's like any other adventure its either for you or not. All I can do is pray that the crew and passengers of the Titan get to go home to their families, so that is what I'll do.

As a functional safety engineer, my blood is boiling over this thing. How could any engineer let this thing be commissioned into service.

Was there no tether to the service ship?

Caught this as well:

My guess is no 50 year old white guy with any common sense would have agreed to pilot the thing.
Some of the stuff that we do is "man rated" and therefore has to have absurd amounts of redundancy in the safety systems. I'd really like to see the FMEA (failure mode effects analysis) study on this thing.

Re MRI, last time I had one, I fell asleep. I can sleep on a NY sidewalk at rush hour.
And just read the oxygen is gone this afternoon. They're screwed. Even if found, they cant get to surface in enough time.
What was that song Quint sang in Jaws? I hear it in the background.

I thought for sure they'd find that thing overnight.

It's pretty impressive how many assets they've thrown at this thing.

They say the hull is made of carbon fiber so it probably will not show up as well as a steel hull on some instruments. If they lost propulsion abilities early in the emergency, then they are at the mercy of ocean currents unless they could get heavy enough to touch bottom. If they couldn't get to bottom then that thing could be many, many miles away from the drop point.

I’ve only had 2 MRI in my life, and don’t have a problem at all. Then a few months ago I saw a video of an MRI machine running without the covers on, that scared the bejesus out of me!

I'm not much for conspiracy theories...but.

With as much equipment as they are STILL sending to that site, I can't help but wonder if they've known the location of the sub for a while now but they just can't reach it. A USAF jet is bringing cable in sometime today, but it won't be at the site for 2+ days? Hmm...
